Chapter 4: Time travel?

It was past 3 a.m. again, and Xu Manman still couldn't sleep. Her insomnia had become more serious recently. It wasn't that she didn't want to adjust her work and rest schedule. After all, her dark circles and bags under her eyes were so severe, and her complexion was yellow. From a maintenance perspective, she should go to bed early and get up early, but she just couldn't fall asleep.

I looked up various folk remedies in a book, such as breathing techniques and lying in the Yang position, but they were of no use at all.

I also bought a bottle of melatonin, but it had no effect.

My body feels very tired, but my mind is still very excited. I can't fall asleep even if I close my eyes for several hours.

I mentioned it to my parents, and they just said that I stayed up too late and asked me to adjust my sleep schedule.

Aija also talked to Xu Manman during the day today. She guessed that it might be because of too much pressure, but what pressure does Xu Manman have now? She eats and sleeps every day, and she doesn't worry about anything.

I also always have some strange dreams when I fall asleep. After waking up, I don’t remember anything at all. I just know that I was dreaming. No matter how long I sleep, my body will always be very tired.

That night, after Xu Manman took a shower, she felt her heart beating faster and her whole body became weak. She forced herself to put on her pajamas, but as soon as she opened the door, her vision went dark and she fell down, losing consciousness.

——

I don’t know how long I was unconscious. In a daze, I always felt that it was very noisy around me, as if many people were talking. Xu Manman thought that it was probably because grandma turned up the volume of the TV.

Xu Manman gradually felt that something was wrong. She was no longer lying down, but was sitting on the table. There seemed to be someone next to her, and the smell around her was very unpleasant. What was going on?

I feel like I'm not at home, but I have no strength in my body. I can feel the surrounding environment, but I can't open my eyes.

Was this a supernatural event? Or was this just a dream?

Thinking of this, I felt relieved and stopped struggling. Once I calmed down, I could hear the people around me talking clearly. Some of them sounded like dialects, but I couldn't make out what they were saying because I was too far away.

"Comrade, could you help me check the time? What time is it now?"

A young female voice came from the side, very close by, speaking Mandarin, calling the other person "comrade"? I guess not many people call people that nowadays.

"It's 8:15 AM now. We're all going to Deyang County. We'll get off in Taipei City. It should take another four or five hours."

The person who answered was a boy, also speaking Mandarin with a slight southern accent, and he didn't sound very old.

"Okay, thank you, comrade."

It sounded so awkward for comrades to come and go like this, and Xu Manman felt a little uncomfortable.

The feeling was so different from previous dreams. The touch, hearing and smell were too normal, and this state lasted for too long. Xu Manman felt her feet starting to go numb.

My feet are starting to go numb??? Why would my feet go numb in a dream?

Suddenly, I felt someone patting my shoulder, and it was as if a seal was released from my body. I opened my eyes and raised my head.

It was like sitting in a green train, a very old one. There were a lot of people in the carriage, all wearing either army green or homespun blue, and most of them were old. There were no eye-catching colors, and it looked like the style from the 1970s and 1980s.

Could it be that I had traveled through time? How could such a mysterious thing happen to me?

Xu Manman secretly pinched her thigh. It hurt so much! Did she really travel through time?

"Comrade, comrade?"

There were three boys sitting opposite her, all looking at her. As a person with social anxiety, Xu Manman didn't dare to look at them for too long, so she quickly turned her head to look beside her.

The person taking the picture of himself was the girl sitting on the right. She had a round face, round eyes, not very white skin, and was wearing army green clothes. She had two braids and was looking at himself with concern.

Xu Manman is a little panicked now. Her mind is blank and she has no memory of her original self. If she meets someone close to her original self, she will probably be exposed in a second. This person calls her comrade, so she probably doesn't know him very well.

"What's wrong?" Xu Manman looked at her confusedly.

The girl's eyes softened. "I saw you slept all the way. I wanted to ask if you were sick. How do you feel now?"

She seems to be a kind and good girl.

"It's okay. I just felt a little dizzy before, but I'm much better now. Thank you." Because she didn't know the specific situation, Xu Manman didn't want to say more.

"Well, we'll probably be getting off in about four or five hours, so you can get ready first."

"OK"

That means they are going to the same destination as them. I heard earlier that they are going to Deyang County. All the people sitting around here are young people.

Oh my god! I'm not going to catch up with the latest trend of time travel—sent-down youth going to the countryside, am I?

The European emperor had signs in advance when he traveled through time and even gave people golden fingers. But I just came here directly and didn’t know anything. The Bodhisattva wouldn’t be so cruel to me, right? Xu Manman was extremely devastated at this moment.
