After burying the bones and cleaning up the fire pit, the two prepared to go down the mountain. Chen Ming originally wanted to take her back to the educated youth site to make dinner, but Xu Manman looked at him speechlessly.
"Cousin, are you trying to feed me like a pig?"
Chen Ming also knew that he had acted foolishly and smiled embarrassedly.
"While it's still early, I'd better go back first."
Chen Ming looked up at the sun in the sky. It was only 3 o'clock in the afternoon, but he thought that his cousin had nothing to do here, so he might as well send her back early to rest.
"Then wait a minute. Let's go back to the educated youth camp first. I'll put your things down and then take you back."
"No need. It's so close, and you have to make an extra trip to take me there." It's too troublesome to run back and forth.
Chen Ming pursed his lips, very insistent. "Be obedient, I'm worried about you going back alone."
After many unsuccessful negotiations, Xu Manman gave in.
The two men first returned to the educated youth site. This time they didn't meet anyone in the front yard, and the other three rooms in the backyard were still locked.
Chen Ming first took off the backpack and emptied it in the house. He subconsciously wanted to open the pottery jar and put things in it. He felt a chill on his back. He turned around and saw his cousin staring at him. He put down his hand with an embarrassed smile.
"Cousin, I wasn't joking when I told you before. I really don't need anything. Don't take anything. Let's go."
"I know, I know, do you want some water?"
Xu Manman shook her head and refused. Chen Ming had no choice but to lock the door and take her back. On the way back, Chen Ming carried Xu Manman's backpack. She was empty-handed and happy. Anyway, there were only a few chestnuts and pine cones in it, so she let him carry it.
They returned to Hongsheng Village in half an hour. Chen Ming put down the backpack and was about to go back, but was stopped by Xu Manman. Xu Manman first made a cup of tea and handed it to him, and asked him to sit in front of the stove and wait obediently. Chen Ming did not dare to resist.
Xu Manman turned around and went back to the inner room. She had eaten too much today, and she thought her cousin might not be too hungry now.
I first took out 10 big meat buns from the space. I had put them in the refrigerator to cool down on the way. I couldn’t take too many, as they wouldn’t last in this weather.
These 10 eggs should be enough for two meals, considering my cousin's appetite. I also took 30 eggs and 10 apples.
Thinking that I had nothing to put in it, I took out a shoulder bag I had made for practice from my space. It was army green, so it wouldn’t look out of place for a boy to use.
After packing everything, I recalled what was in my cousin's room and grabbed a fountain pen, two bottles of blue ink, and a sheet of scratch paper. My older cousin had also brought books, so these would be very useful. I also tucked five sheets of "Great Unity" among the scratch paper.
I went to the outer room with my bag, and saw Chen Ming drinking tea from a cup. Although it was not particularly hot, he drank it slowly and carefully, one sip at a time.
Thinking of something, Xu Manman went back to the inner room.
Chen Ming had no suspicion about his cousin's coming and going, and he drank his tea attentively. When he was at home, he saw his father was concerned about his collection of tea, but he didn't care. Now that he went to the countryside, he realized how precious it was after drinking this. It was specially brewed for him by his cousin.
Xu Manman packed another 2 kilograms of green tea and 3 kilograms of brown sugar. She had placed the two packets of seasoning powder in his room when she returned to the educated youth site. After thinking about it, she thought that he should have enough food for the time being, so she lifted the curtain and went out to the outer room.
She held the bag out to her cousin and said, "Take it. Don't refuse."
Chen Ming put down the cup and took the bag, but before he could say anything to refuse, he was shut up by his cousin.
"As promised, I will supervise you. Next time we meet, if you lose weight, be careful or I'll cry in front of you."
Chen Ming took the bag and felt the weight inside. He knew it must be filled with good stuff without opening it. He opened his mouth, but then thought of his cousin's red eyes from crying that morning and didn't dare to refuse.
"It's not much. I was too lazy to cook tonight, so I packed a few of the buns I made earlier for you."
Chen Ming knew that there was more than just buns in the bag, but he didn't dare to revoke her.
I kept my cousin for a cup of tea and some snacks. Seeing that the sun was about to set, I agreed to go to the commune together after the autumn harvest before letting him go.
Chen Ming faced the setting sun, carrying the new shoulder bag given by his cousin, walking briskly on the country road with a cheerful brow and light steps. You could faintly hear him humming a tune.
