Plans cannot keep up with changes. On Friday night, Xu Manman's apartment welcomed a guest.
Xu Manman stood up from the sofa and looked at the person Caleb Jin brought in. "Why are you here?"
Xu Jianguo scratched his head. "I got out of school early today, and since I haven't seen you in a while, and there happened to be a train in the evening, I bought a ticket and came here."
"You came just in time. They are organizing a hometown gathering tomorrow night. You can come with me then."
While speaking, Xu Manman sent a message in her mind, asking Caleb to clean up the house, especially the bed in the room.
Xiao Jin has always been reliable at work. He brought Xu Jianguo a glass of water and left the space to the brother and sister. When Xu Manman took Xu Jianguo to visit the apartment, there were no signs of mixed living in the house, and it had returned to the way it was when Chen Ming first came.
As a student in the computer department, Xu Jianguo was also excited when he saw the computer in the study.
"That's Caleb's. He used it when my cousin came over before. You can use it if you want."
Xu Jianguo turned to look at the owner of the computer, "Caleb, can I?"
Caleb leaned against the door, "Of course, I don't use it much myself, so feel free to use it as you please, John."
"Thanks."
Caleb is such a good person. Xu Jianguo felt guilty for his previous prejudice against him.
Seeing Xu Jianguo dive into the study, staring at the computer and not intending to move, Xu Manman shook her head.
"Jianguo, have you had dinner? Are you hungry? Do you want me to make you something to eat?"
Xu Jianguo shook his head and said, "No, I'm not hungry. I won't eat." Although he answered every question, his eyes were fixed on Caleb operating the computer, and he didn't pay much attention to his sister at all.
Although he said that, Xu Manman still went back to the kitchen to cook something.
She got out of school early today and had dinner early too. She was a little hungry at this time, so she opened the refrigerator, took out the ingredients, and made a seafood white sauce pasta and a salami cheese pizza, both of which were staple foods. Xu Manman also made a plate of barbecue in the oven.
When the aroma from the kitchen wafted out, Xu Jianguo, who had said he was not hungry, began to feel his stomach growl.
She rubbed her belly and smiled sheepishly at Caleb.
Caleb patted his shoulder and straightened up. "Come on, Molly, dinner should be ready. Let's go eat something to fill our stomachs."
Xu Jianguo chewed his noodles and gave Xu Manman a thumbs-up. "Sister, I didn't expect you to be so good at cooking Western food. You're simply unbeatable."
"I learned all this from Caleb. He's an expert at cooking Western food. I'll let you try his cooking tomorrow."
"Well, okay!"
They finished a large bowl of pasta, an 11-inch square pizza, and a whole plate of grilled meat and vegetables in less than half an hour.
Xu Jianguo slumped in the chair with his stomach in hand, "I'm so full." The last time he ate like this, his sister came to treat him. He never had a full meal at school.
"It's getting late. Let's take a break and go to bed. We've been in class and catching the bus all day. We're exhausted."
Xu Jianguo nodded, "Okay, sister, Caleb, you guys go and rest first, I'll clean up the kitchen."
Xu Manman looked at Caleb Jin and said, "Just let him do it. It's a good opportunity to move around and help him digest it."
Caleb put down his plate obediently and said, "Thank you for your hard work, John."
The next morning, after having a quick bite to eat, Caleb had something to deal with, so Xu Manman drove Xu Jianguo to Times Square.
Although there are no large advertising screens of various sizes around here yet, there are tall buildings all around and it is very bustling.
It was a rare opportunity to go out and play with Xu Jianguo, so Xu Manman specially brought a camera and a few boxes of film.
Ever since Xiao Jin took a photo of her on her space last time, Xu Manman also fell in love with it. Every time she came across something interesting, she would take a photo as a souvenir.
At noon, Xu Jianguo was ultimately unable to taste Caleb’s cooking, so he just randomly found a restaurant on the roadside. The food was…delicious.
After lunch, the two went to see a movie. Xu Jianguo watched the movie with great gusto, while Xu Manman leaned on his shoulder and slept for more than an hour.
After the movie, they walked along Fifth Avenue all the way to Central Park.
Xu Jianguo looked at the people coming and going and said, "Sister, I wish our country could become like this someday."
Xu Manman calculated and said, "Wait until your grandson can walk."
Xu Jianguo thought his sister was joking with him and didn't take her words seriously.
