Chapter 69: See My Cousin

"Our village is on holiday today, and I have nothing to do, so I just came to see you." Xu Manman looked Chen Ming up and down. He had recovered a little during this period. He was no longer as skinny as before. His face had a little more flesh and his complexion was much better.

The two of them entered the house in the backyard together. The doors of the rooms that were closed last time were now open. Xu Manman walked past without looking around, without any intention of prying into the privacy of strangers.

He went into the house, put down the backpack, and took out the things inside one by one. "I calculated the time and came here. It just so happens that you don't have to cook today."

In addition to the sauce and dry food, Xu Manman also brought a large, tightly packed clay pot. This was a clay pot rice Xu Manman had specially prepared in her space before leaving. It contained bacon, sausage, green vegetables, carrots, potatoes, mushrooms, and green beans. The ingredients were substantial, and the pot was full, enough for the two of them.

Xu Manman had just taken it out when she arrived at the entrance of the educated youth center. It was still boiling hot inside. The casserole was still covered with a lid and had not been opened. Xu Manman put it next to the stove and continued to rummage in her backpack. She took out a small bamboo basket with 30 salted duck eggs in it. These were the eggs that Xu Manman had soaked in salt water outside. The space could not do this, so she tried one in the space last night and it was quite successful.

"I found some of these duck eggs in the reed marsh and also exchanged some with people in the village. I tried pickling them and they are edible. You can just boil them when you want to eat them."

Then he took out three more from the backpack and placed them aside. "These are cooked. Let's eat them now. Cousin, please cut them up with a knife and chop some green onions for me."

Chen Ming smelled the fragrant big clay pot and the pile of food on the kang. He wanted to say something but hesitated. In the end, he didn't say it and turned around to go out to pick onions.

When Chen Ming went out, Xu Manman took out a lunch box and a jar from the backpack. In the jar was bean sprouts in soup. Xu Manman didn't know how to make preserved eggs, so she used salted duck eggs instead. In the lunch box was fried tofu, which was made in a grain processor.

Xu Manman didn't dare to take out beef, mutton and the like. Pork was rare in the countryside, and beef and mutton were not available at all. If she took them out, even if Chen Ming was stupid, he would be able to see that something was wrong. Besides, he was just dark and thin now, and his appearance had decreased a little, making him seem not so smart. When he was in school, he scored no less than 95 points in every subject and was the class flower with excellent character and academic performance.

Xu Manman didn't dare to challenge his IQ, nor did she dare to challenge human nature, but she put a little minced meat into the prepared sauce. The spices had a strong flavor, and they were all mixed together, so it was difficult to tell the difference.

Chen Ming came back and chopped the green onions and salted duck eggs with swift movements.

Xu Manman opened the lid of the casserole, put the chopped green onions in, and used an iron spoon to quickly stir the rice and dishes evenly. Soy sauce had been added to it, and now the whole rice was soaked in the sauce and turned brown. Mixed with various vegetables, the aroma was tangy. Chen Mingguang's stomach was already rumbling just by looking at it.

Chen Ming didn't rush to eat the rice handed to him by his cousin. He waited until Xu Manman had served herself the rice and was ready to eat before he picked up the chopsticks.

This was Xu Manman's first attempt at making clay pot rice. All the ingredients were either system rewards or space products. Combined with her craftsmanship and the taste, Xu Manman chewed the rice crust soaked in sauce and announced that this was the most delicious clay pot rice she had ever eaten.

Moreover, delicious food really tastes better when shared. Unfortunately, there is so much beef and mutton in the space, but no one wants to have hot pot with her. The system also signed in a lot of sesame paste a few days ago.

The two of them finished all the food and soup. Xu Manman's belly was so full that she was too lazy to move, so she had to let her cousin clean up the mess.

Seeing Chen Ming grabbing a dry rag and preparing to wipe the casserole, Xu Manman stopped him, "Cousin, there's no need to wipe that casserole. I brought it here to keep for you."

Chen Ming frowned, watching Xu Manman speak, only to be interrupted by her. "This is free. I found it at the scrap yard a while ago. I cleaned it and kept some for myself." Seeing his frown slowly relax, Xu Manman breathed a sigh of relief. Xu Manman did find some jars at the scrap yard, but they were antiques. This casserole was a system reward; she had plenty of them, both large and small.

Chen Ming couldn't help but persuade her, "Manman, you really don't have to get anything for me in the future. We'll be distributing food and money in a few days. Big cousin really doesn't lack anything. The most important thing for you is to take care of yourself."
