Chapter 169 A Clue
"What on earth is going on? How did they end up at the police station?" Old Mrs. Qin's voice was still anxious.
One of the police officers went straight to the point: "Which one of you is Ms. Jiang? This Mr. Qin suspects that this Mr. Jin installed location tracking software on your phone. Please cooperate with our investigation."
Jiang Xingyao looked at Qin Jiangnan with slight surprise. Qin Jiangnan was still indignantly defending himself: "It's not a doubt, it's the truth. If it weren't true, how could he find Jiang Xingyao so accurately every time?"
"Officer, this person's behavior constitutes harassment. He is seriously affecting Jiang Xingyao's daily life. Please investigate this matter thoroughly."
Qin Jiangnan flew into a rage, and the police could only turn around and try to calm him down: "Mr. Qin, please calm down. We will investigate this matter thoroughly."
The calmest one was Jin Qingyu. Not only did he not argue with anyone, but he also looked at Jiang Xingyao seriously and asked, "Yaoyao, do you believe me?"
Jiang Xingyao didn't answer his question, but simply took out her phone from her bag and handed it to him.
She didn't believe Jin Qingyu.
Although she had consulted a professional agency before, it was too much of a coincidence that Jin Qingyu kept appearing in front of her.
It's always good to find out the truth.
Jin Qingyu's gaze remained fixed on Jiang Xingyao's face, and he did not miss the suspicion in Jiang Xingyao's eyes.
His pupils were filled with a dark, gloomy aura.
The police quickly retrieved Jiang Xingyao's phone: "Mr. Qin, you must have misunderstood something. Ms. Jiang's phone is clean; there's nothing on it."
"It's impossible that it doesn't exist." Qin Jiangnan didn't believe it. "If it didn't exist, how could it be so persistent, like a fly haunting us?"
Even if he didn't, he must have used other means to track Jiang Xingyao's whereabouts. The police informed him they were divorced; doesn't his behavior constitute harassment?
Jin Qingyu then sneered, "Qin Jiangnan, how long do you intend to keep this up?"
Qin Jiangnan's expression was somewhat stiff. He still felt that this matter was a bit unbelievable, but since things had come to this point, he couldn't produce any evidence and could only give up.
When they came out of the police station, Jin Qingyu said, "Young Master Qin, you should always be based on evidence. I'm just too lazy to argue with you today. If it were anyone else, they would definitely demand an explanation if they were wrongly accused by you for no reason."
As he spoke, he glanced at Jiang Xingyao and said, "Yaoyao, he's being immature. Why are you making a fuss with him? Don't you trust me at all?"
He knew the answer in his heart.
Even his cooperation in entering the police station was to dispel Jiang Xingyao's doubts.
But he still wanted to hear Jiang Xingyao change her mind in person.
Jiang Xingyao did not do as he wished. She simply said lightly, "After all, you have a precedent to follow. No one can guarantee that you are clean now. Jin Qingyu, you did it yourself."
Jin Qingyu scoffed lightly, his gaze still fixed on Jiang Xingyao. Jiang Xingyao turned directly to Old Madam Qin and said, "Grandma, everything's resolved. Let's go back."
Seeing that Qin Jiangnan was alright, Old Mrs. Qin breathed a sigh of relief. Suddenly, she touched her waist and her face showed a bit of panic: "Oh no, I left my bag at Nanhua Temple."
They came out of the abbot's courtyard and hurriedly followed Assistant Xu here, without noticing that the old lady had left her bag behind.
Jiang Xingyao said, "Grandma, please wait for me in the car for a while, I'll go get it for you."
"Let Assistant Xu go," Jin Qingyu suddenly interjected.
Jiang Xingyao said, "There's no need to trouble President Jin's people. Since President Jin didn't deliberately follow you, you should go and take care of your own business."
Jin Qingyu looked displeased. He watched Jiang Xingyao's retreating figure as she went back up the mountain, but for some reason, he didn't follow.
Qin Jiangnan wanted to go with her, but Old Madam Qin seemed to still be a little shaken and wouldn't let go of his hand, so he could only help her into the car first.
When Jiang Xingyao returned to the abbot's courtyard, there were already new guests in the room, and the young novice monks did not want to disturb them.
Jiang Xingyao could only wait outside. After about ten minutes, the door opened, and a woman who looked unwell came out.
The other person's clothes were not particularly luxurious, and his hair was a bit messy, making him look disheveled. In particular, his eyes were empty and seemed to be filled with panic.
Jiang Xingyao glanced at her hastily, and for some reason felt that this person looked familiar, but she couldn't remember where she had seen her before.
The other person walked very fast, only raising their head briefly when opening the door, and never lifting it again. They looked timid, but Jiang Xingyao noticed that their back was very straight, and even though their clothes were somewhat disheveled, their steps seemed to carry an inexplicable elegance.
Like a wealthy woman who has fallen on hard times.
While Jiang Xingyao was lost in thought, the young novice monk had already led her to the abbot and explained her purpose. The abbot quickly brought out the bag that Old Madam Qin had left behind.
Seeing the worry on Jiang Xingyao's face, he asked her what was troubling her. Jiang Xingyao didn't hide anything: "That lady from earlier looked familiar. Is she a regular at Nanhua Temple?"
The abbot sighed and remained silent, but the young novice monk continued to speak: "She was a pitiful person. About ten years ago, she was a wealthy woman, but then her husband, for some reason, suddenly disappeared and reappeared only after their divorce."
Strangely, this benefactor began having nightmares after that, and exorcising the evil spirits didn't help. So he frequently came to our Nanhua Temple, saying he wanted to absorb some Buddhist energy.
The abbot glared at the young novice: "Amitabha, do not speak ill of the worshippers."
"My esteemed benefactor, Jingxin is still young; please do not take his words to heart."
Jiang Xingyao exchanged a few polite words, but as she descended the mountain, she was still thinking about Jingxin's words.
The woman she just saw, even in her disheveled state, still reminded her of someone she knew; she must have known her before.
More than ten years ago, before her grandfather passed away, she attended too many banquets and met too many people. Those she could remember were either those who had a good relationship with the Qu family or those who were very famous in the circle.
Who could that woman be?
The sudden change in her family happened more than ten years ago, but Jiang Xingyao recalled carefully that she had not heard of any family going bankrupt in recent years.
Nightmares kept coming...
Why do I suddenly have nightmares? Is it because I did something wrong?
Countless thoughts filled Jiang Xingyao's mind. She calculated the time, and suddenly a flash of inspiration struck her, making her steps quicken.
She seemed to have figured out who the woman was!
Jiang Xingyao almost ran down the mountain, and just then she saw the woman she had been anxiously searching for get into a van.
Jin Qingyu didn't leave. For some reason, he was at odds with Qin Jiangnan again. Seeing Jiang Xingyao, he strode over: "Why are you running so fast? It's just..."
"Jin Qingyu, quickly send someone to check that car." Jiang Xingyao didn't bother to explain anything; he pointed at the car speeding away ahead and urged them on.
Seeing her anxious, Jin Qingyu didn't dare to delay and quickly instructed his assistant, Xu, to check the surveillance footage and information.
After catching her breath, Jiang Xingyao handed the bag to Old Mrs. Qin, declining her invitation to have dinner at the Qin family's house. She then said to Qin Jiangnan, "Something has suddenly come up here. You should take Grandma home first."
“Then he…” Qin Jiangnan was extremely worried about Jin Qingyu as soon as he saw him.
Jiang Xingyao said, "I have something to talk to him about."
Jiang Xingyao's attitude was firm, so Qin Jiangnan left reluctantly.
Assistant Xu quickly retrieved nearby surveillance footage and tracked the car's whereabouts. When they arrived at their destination, Jin Qingyu asked, "Yaoyao, what's wrong? Is there something wrong with that car?"
Jiang Xingyao said, "I think I've found a breakthrough. That woman just now, if nothing unexpected happens, is Hu Darong's wife."
"Hu Darong?" This was the first time Jin Qingyu had heard this name.
Jiang Xingyao said, "It's the shareholder who previously absconded with the Qu family's research results."
After that incident, the unfinished special medicine was never released to the market, and even Hu Darong disappeared without a trace. Only Jin Qingyu's mother passed away. More than ten years later, they finally learned that the special medicine from back then had indeed had an impact.
Jin Qingyu's expression also turned serious. Hu Darong was the key to this matter. As long as they knew who had handled the prescription he took, they could find out who the murderer of his mother was.
The car drove through one narrow alley after another, finally stopping in a dirty and chaotic urban village. It was full of interconnected alleys, and the car couldn't go any further in.
Assistant Xu said, "Sir, Madam, the surveillance footage shows that the woman got off the car here. It was a taxi. After dropping her off, the car drove away. But there are no more surveillance cameras further in."
They were able to trace it all the way here because there was a small supermarket at the entrance of the alley, and the supermarket's surveillance cameras happened to capture the woman getting out of the car.
The layout of urban villages is chaotic, with countless doors and windows. At a glance, there are at least several hundred houses. Once you enter, it's like an eel burrowing into a muddy pond; it's indeed not easy to find your way around.
Jin Qingyu said, "If there are no surveillance cameras, then find someone to inquire about it."
Just as Assistant Xu was about to leave, Jiang Xingyao stopped him: "No, if Aunt's death is related to Hu Darong, she might know something. I heard from a young novice monk at Nanhua Temple that she always has nightmares, as if she has done something wrong."
If we search in a high-profile manner, we might alert the enemy.
"Madam, what do you think we should do?" Assistant Xu asked.
Jiang Xingyao thought for a moment, then whispered something. Not long after, Assistant Xu went to the nearby market and bought a T-shirt and shorts. He tidied himself up and messed up his hair, making him look like he could barely fit into the urban village.
Jiang Xingyao watched the surveillance footage again, found a relatively clear image of the woman's figure, printed it out, and handed it to Assistant Xu.
