Chapter 2 A Lamb Enters the Tiger's Mouth

Without giving her a chance to think further, she peeked through the crack in the door and saw that the person chasing her seemed to hesitate for a moment at the gate before bursting in with a lantern.

Su Wanyan's heart tightened again. The room was dark and she couldn't see anything. Using the faint moonlight outside, she groped her way to the bedside and, without thinking, decided to crawl under the bed.

But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't get in. Seeing that the people outside had surrounded the whole room, she had no choice but to throw off the blankets on the bed and crawl into the covers.

However, as soon as they crawled inside, they encountered a huge object, and the bed was filled with an indescribable stench of decay.

Now she had no time to investigate further. Just as she was about to hold her nose and bear it, a large hand suddenly appeared under the covers and grabbed her throat.

Su Wanyan gasped for breath. Oh no, this is a person!

The grip on her neck showed no mercy. Su Wanyan twisted her face in pain, trying to pry the large hand off, but she couldn't do it at all.

A large hand slowly pulled her out of bed, and a cold, sinister male voice rang out in the darkness: "Who?"

With just one word, Su Wanyan felt as if she had fallen into an ice cave, and a chill instantly enveloped her entire body.

Her hand trembled as she reached for her hair bun, trying to pull out another hairpin to protect herself.

However, the person lying on the bed seemed to sense her intention, tightening the grip on her neck even more, and Su Wanyan was immediately on the verge of fainting.

The original owner had just hanged himself not long ago, and now he's going to die again?

Well, maybe this way we can go back to the modern world...

Just when she thought she was going to die, the man suddenly coughed, and a mouthful of blood gushed from his mouth. The force in his hand instantly disappeared, and Su Wanyan fell heavily onto him.

She gasped for breath, trying to get off the man without thinking, but he grabbed her wrist: "Trying to run...? Cough cough cough..."

Su Wanyan could clearly hear the weakness in his voice. Before he could finish speaking, he broke into a violent cough.

Even so, Su Wanyan's wrist was still painfully gripped by him.

"Hero, spare me! It's so dark here, I really didn't mean to disturb your peace. Please, have mercy, I'll leave, I'll leave right now," Su Wanyan pleaded.

Coming here means certain death, but rushing out might give me a chance to live a little longer.

However, no matter how much she struggled, the hand holding hers remained motionless.

Just then, a righteous voice rang out from outside the door: "Your Highness, tonight is your wedding night. I never expected that the Princess Consort would be so audacious as to attempt murder. Now the Princess Consort has fled to avoid punishment. In order to protect Your Highness, I am ordered to arrest the Princess Consort and bring her to justice. I hope Your Highness will cooperate."

Su Wanyan's breath hitched slightly.

What the heck?

Is he Prince Gong?

Isn't she... walking into the lion's den?

"Your Highness, forgive me!" The man outside waved his hand: "Search!"

With a loud bang, the door was pushed open, and Su Wanyan felt a chill in her heart. However, before she could see clearly, the man beneath her suddenly slammed his palm down, and the opened door slammed shut again.

With a tremendous roar, the guards outside the gate let out a wail as they were all thrown back.

Su Wanyan's eyes widened. More than fear, she was amazed. Wow, so handsome!

"Cough cough cough..." Before he could recover, the man lying on the bed suddenly started coughing violently again.

After coughing, he coughed again, and with another "pfft," another mouthful of blood appeared.

Su Wanyan was stunned by his appearance, feeling as if he might suddenly collapse on the spot at any moment.

Seeing how miserable he looked, Su Wanyan finally couldn't help but ask, "Are you alright?"

Unexpectedly, his wrist was yanked hard, and his sinister eyes gleamed with a chilling light in the darkness: "Speak! What happened!"

These words enraged Su Wanyan: "What do you mean, what happened? Wasn't all of this your doing? You arranged for another man to come and marry me, and even had him ruin my reputation. I would rather die than be humiliated. If you're so capable, then chop me in half with one palm and let me die a quick death."

Su Wanyan had originally hoped to escape, but now she's been caught red-handed. In this ancient era where imperial power reigns supreme, how is she supposed to survive?

All she asks now is that she won't suffer too much when she dies.

Yu Nanqing lowered his gaze. The person in the palace had sent countless people to take his life. Even if he disagreed with this marriage, he had no right to refuse.

What tricks will that woman in the palace play on him this time?

"Since that's the case, I'll grant your wish." As he spoke, Yu Nanqing had already gathered a palm and was about to strike Su Wanyan's forehead.

"Ah—" Su Wanyan screamed, closing her eyes tightly in fear.

The internal energy seemed to carry a sharp wind, causing her disheveled black hair to fly wildly across her forehead.

However, the expected palm strike did not come down. She hesitated and opened her eyes a crack, only to see the palm stop an inch in front of her.

"Cough...cough cough cough..." Yu Nanqing withdrew her hand, covering her mouth and coughing uncontrollably.

He had intended to kill her with that palm strike. This woman either truly had no martial arts skills at all, or she was just putting on a very good act.

Su Wanyan's palms were sweating with fear. She assumed he was too ill to harm her, and stammered, "How about... I take a look at you? You can kill me after you're better, right?"

Yu Nanqing's brows twitched slightly; he knew he would never fully recover.

He frowned and sneered, "Didn't you say you wanted a quick and painless death? Now you're scared?"

"I want to die quickly, but that doesn't mean I'm not afraid." These are two different things.

If you can live, who would want to die?

"Cough cough cough..." After repeatedly trying to breathe, Yu Nanqing felt as if his internal organs were about to explode, causing him to cough uncontrollably.

Su Wanyan's eyes suddenly lit up: "I know a little bit of medical skills, maybe I can make you feel more comfortable."

Although she hasn't graduated yet, she already knows the basics.

If he were truly Prince Gong, and if we could appease him, he might be so pleased that he would spare her life.

She reached out to wipe the blood from his mouth, but Yu Nanqing slapped her hand away, saying, "Don't touch me!"

Su Wanyan was startled and quickly withdrew her hand, not daring to do anything rash again.

But her other hand was still firmly held by him, and she couldn't help but mutter, "He won't let me touch you, but he's holding me so tightly."

"..." No one dared to argue with him in his anger.

"Your Highness!" Just then, a voice rang out from outside the door again: "This humble servant is also acting under orders, all for Your Highness's safety. I hope Your Highness will cooperate."

Su Wanyan was on the verge of tears: "Your Highness, please have mercy. I really panicked and wandered into the Dragon King Temple by mistake. Either you can really kill me with one palm, or you can let me go. I'm afraid of pain, I can't bear the torture."
