After saying that, she got up and instructed, "Remember not to eat too many steamed buns, one or two bites at a time is enough."
"Su Wanyan!" Yu Nanqing tried to call out to her.
But Su Wanyan had already opened the door and walked out with a "bang".
Outside, the main courtyard was surrounded by palace soldiers. Looking around, Xu Si was not there; he must have sent someone to clean the rooms.
Su Wanyan straightened her back and walked towards the courtyard gate.
Unexpectedly, two soldiers at the door blocked Su Wanyan's path with their spears.
Su Wanyan asked unhappily, "What? You won't let me out?"
However, the two soldiers completely ignored her, like a robot that only knew how to stand guard.
Are they going to confine them in the main courtyard and leave them to fend for themselves?
Seeing this, Su Wanyan didn't insist and started walking back, wandering around the courtyard.
The weeds in the front and back yards had grown to waist height, almost burying Su Wanyan's body.
Fortunately, the soldiers were all guarding outside the courtyard. If they were inside, they probably wouldn't even have the right to wander around here.
The main courtyard was very large, and with the weeds growing tall, Su Wanyan had a hard time walking. When she finally reached a relatively secluded corner of the backyard, she noticed a crooked tree growing there.
She quietly climbed up and glanced outside; there were no soldiers.
The soldiers had probably only surrounded a few entrances to the courtyard. She assessed the height of the courtyard wall, then mustered her courage and jumped down with a 'whoosh'.
Having landed safely, she crouched down and hid in the nearby bushes, peeking out to check if she was alright, when she heard a cry of "Ah—!" A maidservant suddenly appeared out of nowhere, spotted her, and shouted, "Someone come here! It's Her Highness the Princess!"
"Damn it!" Su Wanyan cursed, and without thinking twice, she took off running!
Upon hearing the shout, the soldiers surged forward, all chasing after Su Wanyan: "Stop! Don't run!"
Oh my god! I'm going to die! Heaven is going to destroy me today!
Su Wanyan was screaming inwardly as she ran, not daring to look back, running even faster than when she first transmigrated.
When the servants in the palace saw a large group of soldiers chasing after her, they were so frightened that they all scattered and gave way.
"Stop! Grab her!"
"Quick! We absolutely cannot let her get away!"
"Go this way and surround her!"
The soldiers probably didn't expect Su Wanyan to be so fast; a little girl had left them far behind.
In order to maintain a healthy body, Su Wanyan exercised diligently during her modern-day life.
However, the body she had transmigrated into couldn't withstand such exertion. Her legs started to weaken after running for only a short while, and she felt as if her heart was about to jump out of her chest.
But she dared not stop!
She just wanted to run faster until she saw the dog hole through which she had slipped out, and her eyes immediately shone with a light like the sun.
Dog hole! Here I come!
She immediately put her hands on the ground, bent over, and hurriedly crawled out.
The soldiers turned pale when they saw Su Wanyan emerge from the hole: "Quick! Grab her!"
While shouting, it hurriedly bent down to try to crawl out, but got stuck at the entrance of the hole.
The soldier reached his hand outside, trying to grab Su Wanyan, but Su Wanyan had already disappeared.
"The princess has run away! Go after her! Hurry!" Someone shouted, and all the soldiers rushed towards the gate of the palace in a panic!
"Someone! Quickly go and report to Eunuch Liu, the Princess Consort has run away!" someone ordered.
Within fifteen minutes, a group of soldiers in golden armor poured out of the street, seemingly searching for something.
Suddenly, Su Wanyan darted out of the alley, colliding with the soldiers searching the street. Her eyes widened, she slammed on the brakes, and ran back inside.
The soldiers, belatedly realizing what was happening, rushed into the alleyway, spears in hand, shouting, "Chase them!"
Su Wanyan was on the verge of tears and wanted to curse.
She wanted to go to the capital, thinking that the secluded alley would allow her to escape the soldiers' pursuit, but she didn't expect that every corner of the alley was a dead end.
They could see the palace walls just by looking up, but they just couldn't get there.
Now a group of soldiers were chasing her, so Su Wanyan could only run for her life. What if she encountered a dead end again?
The alley was winding and twisting. Just when Su Wanyan was at her wit's end, her arm was suddenly pulled and she was instantly dragged into the corner of the alley.
Just as Su Wanyan was about to cry out, her mouth was covered. Upon closer inspection, she saw that the child in front of her was filthy, dressed in tattered burlap, and the little hand covering her face had smeared Su Wanyan's face with dirt.
“You…” Su Wanyan’s eyes widened. Wasn’t this the little beggar who stole the buns yesterday?
"Shh!" The little beggar gestured for silence. "Come with me!"
Her voice is clear and pleasant; she's a young girl!
The little beggar knew the way well, and Su Wanyan followed her as she weaved through the alleys, soon escaping her pursuers.
They hid in a pile of miscellaneous goods behind a craftsman's shop. Su Wanyan breathed a sigh of relief only after making sure no one was around: "Thank you. Why did you help me?"
The little beggar stared blankly at her words: "Sister, have you forgotten? Last time I stole buns from the bun shop, you stopped the owner and even paid for them for me."
Su Wanyan remembered that it was just a small favor, and she didn't think much of it.
I helped her because I saw her holding a few steamed buns and it reminded me of her current predicament.
"I wanted to thank you that day, but I was afraid you would look down on me, so I followed you all the way to Prince Gong's Mansion, and that's when I found out that you were a princess."
Su Wanyan was taken aback: "You knew?"
The little beggar nodded. She had seen everything clearly from the street, hiding in the street, yesterday at the entrance of the Prince's Mansion.
"Then why aren't you afraid of me?"
This time, it was the little beggar's turn to pause for a moment. She scratched her head and said, "You look... even more down on your luck than I do."
I initially thought she was a maid from some household. Yesterday, when I followed her all the way to the Prince's Mansion, I saw her trying to crawl through a hole, and then I saw her walk through the main gate.
Moreover... she looked at what Su Wanyan was wearing. A princess dressed as a maid was no different from her wearing tattered clothes.
"..." Su Wanyan neither agreed nor disagreed with these words.
"Your Highness kindly paid for my steamed buns yesterday. I could tell at a glance that she wasn't the type to make things difficult for anyone. I waited around the Prince's mansion today specifically to wait for Your Highness to come out..." As she spoke, her voice became softer, and she added somewhat shyly, "I'm hoping Your Highness might take me in."
After saying that, he quickly waved his hand and said, "However, I have no intention of clinging to Your Majesty. If Your Majesty is unwilling, I will not pester you."
She lowered her head hesitantly, her eyes full of caution.
