They were terrified.
Putting aside the matter of the puppet killing people, the fact that Tanaka appeared before them last night means that this was ordered by the prince.
Even if they were stupid, they would know that the prince was going to kill them!
How could they not be terrified? So when they woke up early this morning, they didn't care about anything else and rushed over to beg for mercy.
Tanaka's eyes turned slightly cold: "I said yesterday that since you have chosen to stay, you should serve the Prince and the Empress with all your heart."
The three palace maids shook their heads repeatedly: "Brother Guard, please have mercy... We were really wrong, we really will leave!"
Tanaka had lost patience with them and gave a signal with his eyes. Several of them were immediately dragged away.
"Help! No! Your Highness, spare me! Your Highness, spare me!"
Tanaka remained calm. He had been given a chance yesterday but didn't leave. Now that he wanted to leave, it was too late.
When we set off today, one of the thirty palace maids was missing.
The three who knew what was going on followed the group with a mixture of trepidation and panic. They looked around, but it seemed that no one else's expression had changed except for theirs.
Yu Nanqing intentionally kept Su Wanyan from knowing, so Su Wanyan naturally wouldn't ask unless absolutely necessary.
For the next few days, I would hear piercing screams every night.
Only then did the palace maids sent by the Empress Dowager realize that the number of people accompanying them was less. Not only were there fewer people, but some of the people who were with them seemed to be acting suspiciously, with pale and frightened expressions, and were very unnatural.
The informant sent by the Empress Dowager noticed something was wrong and secretly went to inquire during a break.
But they found that no one dared to speak up.
Not to mention how horribly those people died in the middle of the night, it was Yu Nanqing who executed them. Even if they wanted to speak up, the guards not far away were watching them intently, and they didn't even have a moment to cry for help.
If they tell, they might be the ones dying tonight; if they don't, they might be able to survive and find a chance to escape.
This sight made several of the Empress Dowager's spies start to worry; they needed to come up with a solution.
As for Dai Yiqiu, she was completely oblivious to the seriousness of the situation. Instead, she thought that it was fine if those people died, and that it would be best if she were the only one left in the end.
She always believed that she was special.
Inside the carriage, Su Wanyan opened the wooden box that Dai Zhiwan had given her when she left the capital.
Inside were two sets of exquisite porcelain.
To say they are exquisite is not quite accurate, because the shapes of the porcelain pieces are quite interesting, such as wavy arched bridges, half-eaten pancakes, vases with a missing piece, and so on.
They are all small decorative items.
Su Wanyan couldn't help but laugh when she saw it. It was really difficult for Dai Zhiwan to cater to her hobbies.
The reason Su Wanyan initially described it as exquisite is because it also included normal porcelain pieces, such as orioles perched on branches, their feathers colorful and vibrant.
For example, a pair of exquisite teacups. Su Wanyan picked them up and examined them carefully for a moment. They were not the work of a master craftsman. She guessed that Dai Zhiwan had learned to make them herself.
Su Wanyan felt a warm feeling in her heart when she saw it.
It was supposed to be opened on the day I left the capital, but Yu Nanqing coaxed me into forgetting about it.
She gently placed the item back into the box, and just as she closed the lid, a lively commotion arose outside the carriage.
Su Wanyan curiously opened the carriage curtain and saw the carriage slowly passing through a city gate.
The city gate stood tall and imposing, and the people on both sides of the carriage were making a racket, all stopping to watch the carriage they were sitting in.
Su Wanyan lowered the curtain and heard Yu Nanqing's voice slowly ring out: "We will rest in the city tonight."
Su Wanyan nodded. She had been staying in villas for the past few days and hadn't lingered in towns.
The journey from the capital to Fuzhou normally takes about a month, but at their current leisurely pace, Su Wanyan estimates it will take a month and a half.
Because of the large size of the group, Su Wanyan and Yu Nanqing booked an entire restaurant, while the rest of the group was relocated elsewhere.
Even so, it still couldn't stop some people from causing trouble.
At dinner time, a soft voice came from outside the door: "Your Highness, Your Majesty, I have come to bring you your meal."
It was Dai Yiqiu's voice.
Su Wanyan was yawning when she suddenly snapped back to reality and looked at Yu Nanqing: "I need to leave. Wait until you've finished dealing with this before you come out?"
"No need!" Yu Nanqing said firmly.
Su Wanyan smiled and said, "Alright then."
With Tanaka, Mingyu, and a few others guarding the outside, Dai Yiqiu couldn't possibly have come here without Yu Nanqing's orders.
Her presence signifies Yu Nanqing's agreement.
Yu Nanqing slowly opened the door and saw Dai Yiqiu carrying a tray, looking shy: "Your Highness, I've brought you a meal."
Yu Nanqing remained silent and reached out to take it.
Dai Yiqiu was overjoyed and wanted to say something, but the door slammed shut with a "bang".
Her heart skipped a beat, and she clenched her fists tightly in her sleeves. It had been so many days, and Yu Nanqing still hadn't come to see her!
But then he thought again, realizing that his goal had already been achieved, so he gritted his teeth and turned to leave.
Inside the room, Yu Nanqing placed the meal on the table: "Yan'er, take a look."
Su Wanyan glanced at Yu Nanqing, pursed her lips, and still leaned closer to smell the food. A fragrance that didn't belong to the food entered her nose.
It was very faint; if it weren't for Su Wanyan, no one else would have been able to smell it.
She lightly covered her nose: "Aphrodisiac."
Apart from aphrodisiacs, no other medicine smells so good.
Whom is Dai Yiqiu trying to drug?
For Yu Nanqing?
With Yu Nanqing sharing a room with her, Dai Yiqiu's wishful thinking has failed.
It's unlikely that she was drugged; Dai Yiqiu wouldn't want to push her towards Yu Nanqing.
What is she trying to do?
A short while later, the room was knocked on again: "Your Highness, Your Majesty."
It was Tanaka's voice.
Yu Nanqing responded, "Come in."
Tanaka brought in the meal: "Your Highness, Your Majesty, the meal is here."
Seeing the other dishes on the table, Tanaka calmly put down the dishes in his hand and picked up the ones that Dai Yiqiu had drugged.
Yu Nanqing instructed, "Send it to wherever it came from."
Tanaka immediately understood and replied, "Yes."
Cai Yiqiu's restaurant was right next to Su Wanyan and Yu Nanqing's. When she returned to her room, before she could even close the door, several people pulled her inside, and with a "bang," the door slammed shut.
"How is it? Sister Yiqiu, has the meal been delivered?"
Dai Yiqiu haughtily pushed their hands away and sat down leisurely: "Of course it was delivered. Do you think I'm like you, that the prince would ignore me?"
"The prince treats Sister Yiqiu differently indeed."
Dai Yiqiu looked at them: "You said that the medicine will take effect in half an hour, is that true? Will there be any problems?"
