Chapter 456 Dai Zhiwan's Wedding Invitation

Su Wanyan, who was feeding the fish, suddenly became interested: "The Duke of Changguo's mansion? It must be a letter from Zhiwan. Let me see it quickly."

Su Wanyan reached out and took it, then turned and went into the pavilion.

A small stove was set up in the pavilion, with tea being brewed inside. Several small dishes of snacks were placed on the stone table in the pavilion, and Huang Ye, who was always by his side, was nearby.

The weather in Fucheng in July was exceptionally pleasant, neither too cold nor too hot. Su Wanyan, dressed in a long, flowing willow-leaf skirt, sat in the pavilion, smiling sweetly, looking quite content.

She opened the letters; there were two letters in total. One was a wedding invitation sent in the name of the Duke of Changguo's mansion, and the other was a handwritten letter from Dai Zhiwan.

The letter stated that Dai Zhiwan's wedding was scheduled for October 15th, and hoped that Su Wanyan could attend.

The rest was Dai Zhiwan talking incessantly about the nervousness the wedding brought her, and she also mentioned that they had received the gifts and letters that Su Wanyan had asked Si Yang to bring.

The journey from Fucheng to the capital takes about a month by carriage, but about twenty days by horseback.

It was July, and there were still three and a half months until the fifteenth of October. After October, November would begin to mark the start of deep winter, so Dai Zhiwan had given them enough time to return to the capital.

Su Wanyan smiled as she folded the letter and carefully tucked it into her bosom. She had been wondering when Dai Zhiwan's marriage would be settled, so receiving the letter made her feel reassured.

It's been a long wait, to be honest.

Su Wanyan instructed, "When the Prince returns, take the invitation to him and show it to him."

Yu Nanqing has been frequently on the move these past two months. One reason is to inspect the military camps. Although Lü Cezhong helped him reorganize them, the city garrison, which had just been incorporated into the Dragon Clan Army, was not yet ready to adapt to the intensity of the Dragon Flag Army.

Yu Nanqing was there to keep things under control.

Secondly, because of the policy of opening up tax reduction, officials from other cities in Fuzhou came to Fucheng to visit and wanted to find out more.

Yu Nanqing had no choice but to deal with it.

Fortunately, Yu Nanqing is not a workaholic. He always returns before sunset, and sometimes even earlier.

Su Wanyan couldn't see the slightest trace of 'dedication and selflessness' in him.

"Your Highness, if you show this to the Prince, he will be even happier," Qiu Ye replied with a smile.

Su Wanyan was slightly taken aback upon hearing this: "That's true, I don't have anything to do coming or going."

After saying that, she smiled and said, "Then I'll take it. If he comes back, let me know."

Qiu Ye smiled and nodded in a curtsy: "Yes."

Qiu Ye wasn't worried at all. If the prince returned, he would definitely come to see the empress first, so there was no need for them to report.

Sure enough, it was only late afternoon, and Su Wanyan was just about to take a nap when Yu Nanqing returned from outside.

Hearing the door creak open, Su Wanyan turned around and saw Yu Nanqing's tall figure come into view: "Yan'er."

Yu Nanqing called out.

Yu Nanqing has been getting up early and going out frequently these days, but Su Wanyan can't see any signs of fatigue on his face.

Seeing him return, Su Wanyan's sleepiness vanished instantly: "You're back! Have you had lunch yet?"

She skipped over to help Yu Nanqing remove his outer robe, and casually instructed, "Qiuye, go and bring some food over."

Yu Nanqing raised an eyebrow slightly: "Is there some good news?"

"Huh?" Su Wanyan's eyes widened. "You figured it out so quickly?"

Yu Nanqing chuckled softly; anyone with eyes could see it.

Su Wanyan took out the wedding invitation from the drawer: "The wedding invitation was sent from the capital. Zhiwan's wedding is scheduled for October 15th. We have plenty of time to go back."

After saying that, he hesitated for a moment: "Can you go back? You've been so busy lately."

If Yu Nanqing can't go back, then she will return to the capital herself.

Su Wanyan's thoughts were written all over her face. Yu Nanqing raised his hand and pinched her moist cheek in annoyance: "I will definitely go back with you since it was arranged a long time ago."

Su Wanyan smiled upon hearing this, her mood exceptionally good: "Zhiwan is getting married, what do you think I should give her? I gave Yixuan a lot of gifts when she got married, but now that I'm in Fucheng, I can't be sure what kind of gifts I should give her."

As she spoke, Su Wanyan had already made up her mind: "When General Siyang returned to the capital, I asked him to take a pair of bracelets back with him. But Fucheng has more than just bracelets. I will find someone to find the best jade and have someone make a pair of jade bracelets for Zhiwan as a wedding gift."

"Yes, very good." These matters can be handed over.

Wang Zhang has always been a prudent person.

Yu Nanqing had no objection to what Su Wanyan was going to do.

"When do we set off?"

"It's up to Yan'er to decide." After a pause, she added, "Returning to the capital sooner will help prevent any unforeseen circumstances."

Su Wanyan agreed: "Then I'll have someone pack their things in the next few days and we'll set off."

After saying that, she realized what she meant: "You'll encounter unexpected situations on the way back to the capital? You mean bandits or something?"

They will definitely have troops escorting them on their way back to the capital. Even if they encounter bandits, they shouldn't be so bold as to block their path.

"Hmm." Yu Nanqing gave a soft, thoughtful reply.

Seeing his expression, Su Wanyan knew that he was more than just a bandit. Just as she was about to ask him more questions, Qiuye's voice rang out from outside the door: "Your Majesty, the meal is here."

Su Wanyan had no choice but to gather her thoughts and say, "Come in."

The door opened, and Qiuye and Huangye entered one after the other.

He put down the food and then respectfully withdrew.

Yu Nanqing was indeed hungry. After finishing his inspection outside, he went straight back to his residence, ignoring the governor's offer to invite him to stay for a meal.

"Has Yan'er eaten?"

"I've already eaten."

Su Wanyan picked up a dish for him and continued the previous topic: "By the way, what's the deal with the bandits you mentioned earlier? Judging from your expression, it seems quite complicated."

“It’s not complicated.” Yu Nanqing lightly bit the food in his mouth, not delaying his speech at all: “The bandits who have been wandering around recently do not seem to be ordinary bandits.”

"Not your average bandits? What do you mean?"

Yu Nanqing smiled and said, "I only heard it secondhand. If Yan'er wants to know, I will send someone to investigate."

Su Wanyan pouted: "You're kidding me."

Since Yu Nanqing knew they were not ordinary bandits, he must have discovered some clues, but he didn't say anything.

Well, Su Wanyan didn't dwell on the matter and changed the subject: "After I return from attending Zhiwan's wedding in the capital, I'd like to visit the secret room in the mansion."

Actually, she had wanted to go for a long time, but because Yu Nanqing was busy with his affairs, and she was afraid that something might happen, she had been suppressing her curiosity.

After returning from the capital, she insisted on going down to find out what was going on.

"Okay." Yu Nanqing agreed, "I'll go with Yan'er."

Su Wanyan smiled with satisfaction and picked up her chopsticks to put a large piece of meat into Yu Nanqing's bowl.
