Chapter 50 This is the Last Chance

"Sister knows you didn't go to the Princess's banquet because you were worried about the Prince." Su Muqing smiled and clapped her hands twice. Then, four maids dressed in light green clothes entered the courtyard.

Su Muqing smiled and said, "These four maids were carefully selected by me in the manor. I brought them here specifically to take care of the prince. This way, the prince will have someone to take care of him, and my sister can go to the banquet with me with peace of mind."

"His Highness doesn't like being taken care of, please leave." Su Wanyan's eyebrows furrowed with impatience.

“Sister, you are a princess, why do you have to do everything yourself? Just tell the servants to do the dirty and tiring work. The Princess’s banquet has gathered the daughters of the most prestigious families in the capital.” She took a step forward slowly, lowered her voice and laughed, “Sister, Prince Gong is now a cripple. Don’t you want to escape this cage, enjoy wealth and honor, and rise to prominence?”

Su Wanyan frowned: "You're slandering the Prince?"

"Sister, how could I dare? I'm just telling the truth. I've always admired the Prince, and there's no one else here. Why are you so nervous, sister?"

It means that even if Su Wanyan tells others, no one will care. Throughout the entire capital, her talent is among the best.

Who would believe that a talented woman would slander Prince Gong behind his back?

Su Wanyan looked at her haughty smile, her eyes narrowing slightly. After a while, she suddenly curled her lips into a smile: "First, I don't find taking care of the prince tiring at all. Second, I don't want any wealth or glory. Third..."

"It's not impossible for me to go, but I have a condition."

Su Muqing's expression turned cold. Who did she think she was? So many people wanted to go to the Princess's banquet but couldn't, yet she had to beg her, a beloved legitimate daughter, to go. And to make matters worse, she made all sorts of excuses.

Now they're even negotiating terms.

Even with her good temper, Su Muqing couldn't hold back any longer. She clenched her fist in her sleeve, but her smile remained unchanged: "Go ahead."

"If you're willing to stay and take care of the prince, then I'll go."

"What!" Su Muqing's eyes widened in disbelief, and she couldn't help but laugh in anger: "Little sister, do you know what you're saying?"

"I know." Su Wanyan turned around and plopped down on the armchair in the main hall, pointing at her listlessly: "You, stay here and take care of the prince, I'm going to the banquet."

"Impossible!" Su Muqing refused without even thinking.

"No way."

"Su Wanyan!" Su Muqing's voice rose: "Not to mention that I have never met the prince, and besides, men and women should not touch each other. What you did is no different from ruining my reputation! I never thought you were such a vicious person. Have you forgotten that you come from the Marquis of Yuanning's mansion, and that I am your elder sister!"

Su Wanyan slammed her hand on the tea table with a loud bang: "Why do you think I became the Princess Consort of Prince Gong? Su Muqing! The person the Emperor bestowed upon the Prince Gong's mansion was you! Now I'm marrying into the mansion in your place, and what's wrong with serving the Prince wholeheartedly?"

Su Wanyan stood up and glared at Su Muqing defiantly: "If you want me to attend the banquet, you'll have to stay here today to take care of the Prince and avenge my being forced into marriage in his place!"

The fact that the original owner hanged herself after marrying into the family should be blamed on her!

Su Muqing was spoiled and arrogant; it would be worse than death for her to serve others.

"You!" Su Muqing's face paled slightly. Yes, everyone in the capital knew that she was the one who had been betrothed by the Emperor, but no one dared to say it so openly.

Even the emperor, who was the instigator, remained silent about the matter and no longer pursued the responsibility of the Marquis of Yuanning.

Su Wanyan, however, made no attempt to conceal it and publicized it.

Su Muqing gritted her teeth and clenched her fists: "We are sisters after all. If you keep bringing this up, it means you don't respect the Emperor and Father."

"I've already clearly told you that I wouldn't go to the Princess's banquet, but you insisted on pestering me, using threats and inducements to force me to attend." Su Wanyan's expression was cold: "Now I can't help but suspect that you have some ulterior motive. Why do I absolutely have to go to this banquet?"

The gentle smile on Su Muqing's face was gone, and her gaze towards Su Wanyan was unfriendly: "Do you want to offend the Princess?"

"It's just a banquet. The Princess is a woman of great compassion; I doubt she would be so petty as to blame me!"

"Are you really not going?"

"I'm not going!"

Su Muqing took a deep breath, composed her expression, and said coldly, "Su Wanyan, I've already come to invite you, but you refused. Don't regret it later."

After saying that, she angrily flicked her wide sleeves, turned around, and stormed off with her maids.

Watching her departing figure, Su Wanyan also entered the main room with an unhappy expression.

Inside the room, Yu Nanqing overheard their conversation. He stared silently as Su Wanyan approached, finally sitting down and lying on the edge of the bed, her face full of worry. "She can come and go as she pleases in this Prince's mansion!"

She sighed, "We're really facing enemies on all sides now. I can handle Su Muqing today, but what if a princess comes one day?"

She looked at Yu Nanqing: "Do you have any good ideas? Give me some advice."

Yu Nanqing just looked at her, at her slightly furrowed brows, at her slightly puffed cheeks, at her rosy lips opening and closing.

He wondered if her words, "I serve you wholeheartedly," were truly sincere.

He wondered if he really wanted Su Muqing to take care of him instead.

Or perhaps, she didn't want to be sent to the Prince's mansion at all?

...It's only natural that he wouldn't want to be sent to the Prince's mansion, given that he's such a useless person...

Yu Nanqing suddenly reached out and grasped her wrist through her sleeve, his deep, gentle voice slowly asking, "What do you want to do?"

Su Wanyan was stunned for a moment: "What do you want to do?"

"Whatever you want to do, I will grant your wish. You can leave the capital and go anywhere, whether you want to travel and enjoy the scenery or settle down and live a peaceful life. You can even leave the Great Jin Dynasty and escape the control of the court. As long as you want, I will arrange it."

Su Wanyan was even more stunned, unable to immediately determine whether his words were true or false.

"Didn't you say before that I made decisions without consulting you? Now that I've consulted with you beforehand, if you just nod, I will do everything in my power to get you out."

"Then, is the price very high?"

“…” Yu Nanqing pursed her lips and remained silent.

Seeing his reaction, Su Wanyan guessed most of what was going on: "Never mind."

Having missed an opportunity a few days ago, she was genuinely afraid that if she mobilized such a large force again, Yu Nanqing's remaining men would be wiped out.

Yu Nanqing tightened his grip on her wrist: "Su Wanyan, this is your last chance."
