Chapter 526 Nothing

"Hmm." Yu Nanqing lowered his head and smiled, gently squeezing Su Wanyan's small hand that was tightly gripping his with his thumb: "So this is what it feels like to be held tightly by Yan'er."

"Yu Nanqing!"

Su Wanyan wasn't afraid of the secret passage itself, but rather she disliked the feeling of uncertainty about the future.

The secret passage was pitch black, and she couldn't see the end of it. As soon as she entered, she felt that she had no control over what would happen next.

Yu Nanqing tightened his grip on her small hand: "I will hold it even tighter than Yan'er."

Su Wanyan had initially considered backing out, since some things didn't necessarily need to be investigated thoroughly. However, upon hearing Yu Nanqing's words, her emotions inexplicably calmed down, and she leaned closer to Yu Nanqing, saying, "Then walk slowly."

"Let's wait."

"Hmm?" Su Wanyan asked curiously, "Waiting for what?"

As soon as he finished speaking, a bright light appeared behind him. It turned out that Tanaka had appeared in the secret passage with a torch. Compared to a tinderbox, the torch illuminated almost the entire surrounding area.

Having seen her surroundings clearly, Su Wanyan finally relaxed a bit. The walls were made of blue bricks, and due to their age, a fine layer of powder would fall off when touched. The floor of the secret passage was very dry, without any dampness or stuffiness.

"Let's go," Yu Nanqing said softly.

Su Wanyan hurriedly followed.

Su Wanyan had thought that there might be some secret hidden in this secret passage, but when she came down, she found nothing.

It wasn't that there was absolutely nothing there; there were several traps along the way, which Su Wanyan and Yu Nanqing narrowly avoided. Although it was called a secret passage, it really was just one straight path leading to the end.

She didn't know how long she had walked, but Su Wanyan's patience was almost gone.

Yu Nanqing noticed her mood and lowered his eyes: "Would you like to rest for a while?"

"Here?" Su Wanyan asked, her interest piqued.

She glanced back; it was pitch black. She looked ahead, and it was pitch black again. She had walked for so long; it was too late to go back now.

Yu Nanqing took Su Wanyan's hand and made a move to carry her on his back.

Su Wanyan quickly stopped her, saying, "Oh, I'm not tired."

"Hmm?" Yu Nanqing asked curiously, "But Yan'er looks very tired."

"..." Su Wanyan wanted to explain, but suddenly stopped and hugged Yu Nanqing tightly: "Never mind, carry me on your back."

Yu Nanqing smiled and said, "Mm."

Yu Nanqing was very tall, and Su Wanyan's view of the world was much wider when she was carried on his back.

She wrapped her arms around his neck and rested her chin on his shoulder. Tanaka followed behind with a torch, casting their shadows against the wall.

Even though they were walking in a secret passage, the surroundings were eerily quiet. Su Wanyan breathed softly on Yu Nanqing's neck: "Yu Nanqing."

"Um?"

"Could you make some footsteps?"

"..."

No sooner had he finished speaking than a faint sound of footsteps came from the ground.

Su Wanyan's mood improved a bit. She casually touched the embroidery on his clothes with her small hands around his neck and said, "Yu Nanqing, can I ask you something?"

"Um?"

"Do you know that this secret passage is actually an escape route?"

Su Wanyan didn't know at first; she only started guessing after she walked in, since there was nothing inside, not even a place to rest.

There were also several traps along the way, which seemed to be specially set up to prevent pursuers from getting away.

Yu Nanqing pursed her lips and kept her mouth shut, not daring to speak.

Seeing his expression, Su Wanyan knew he must have known all along. She reached out and pinched his chin: "Fine, you knew but didn't tell me, and even tricked me into coming in!"
