Chapter 83 A Woman with No Power to Kill a Chicken

Yu Nanqing coughed again.

Su Wanyan remained silent.

She turned around and saw that it was Si Yang, the prince consort of the eldest princess.

He stood ramrod straight, with broad shoulders and a narrow waist, and his physique looked very robust. Su Wanyan wondered if it was related to his experiences or the red-collared jade robe he wore, but she felt that there was a unique charm in his eyes and brows.

It's a faint feeling, a sense of despondency mixed with a desire to break free from the cage, yet unable to find the right way and living in constant anxiety, while stubbornly refusing to admit defeat.

"The prince consort?"

Su Wanyan's voice was filled with doubt.

I know very little about this consort, Su Wanyan. I've heard rumors in the capital that he's been confined to the Princess's residence and is not allowed to come and go as he pleases.

Given the strong-willed nature of the eldest princess, even though she knew he was likely to suffer greatly in her residence, Su Wanyan was wary of everyone, so she didn't show Si Yang a friendly attitude.

However, it was only a lack of pleasantries, since Si Yang hadn't offended her yet.

Si Yang first bowed to Yu Nanqing and Su Wanyan, saying, "Si Yang greets Your Highness and Your Highness's Consort."

"Is there something you need?" Su Wanyan asked.

"I..." Si Yang didn't know how to start, and after a long pause, he said, "I'm just curious, just now when the Princess Consort confronted the Emperor in Fanghua Palace, wasn't she afraid that the Emperor might do something detrimental to the two of you in a fit of anger?"

His voice carried a hint of eager curiosity, which he skillfully concealed due to politeness.

When Si Yang asked this question, Su Wanyan guessed why he had chased after her.

Instead of answering Si Yang directly, he asked in return, "What does the Prince Consort want to hear from me?"

In truth, he also wanted to rebel against the eldest princess, but the imperial power above him held him back, leaving him powerless. He probably came after her seeking an answer, an answer that would allow him to break free from his cage.

Besides, there might be another purpose: to use their falling out with Emperor Yuanhe to create an opportunity for themselves, which implies that they wanted to take advantage of them.

Otherwise, since she had never met Si Yang before, and the Eldest Princess had been targeting her, from Si Yang's perspective, he really had no right to associate with the Prince Gong's Mansion.

It's no wonder Su Wanyan is overthinking things. In this palace, there are plenty of man-eating beasts. They're talking to her nicely now, but who knows when they'll turn around and bite her back.

This is the only truth she has come to understand in the days since she traveled through time.

Su Wanyan's words made Si Yang choke slightly. Su Wanyan saw through his intention and lowered her eyes: "I'm sorry, it was my rudeness."

His attitude was good, and Su Wanyan couldn't bear to speak too harshly.

“Our situation is different from that of the Prince Consort,” Su Wanyan said with a smile. “If the Prince Consort continues to ignore the matter, he can live out the rest of his life in peace, but that’s not the case for me and the Prince.”

Regardless of whether she confronted Emperor Yuanhe or not, in the end Emperor Yuanhe would not let the Prince Gong's Mansion go.

So whether she fights or not, she will die.

Moreover, judging from the little tricks Yu Nanqing made when she entered the palace today, she had a feeling that this matter was not over yet. Emperor Yuanhe and the Princess had not managed to get rid of her today, so they must have left some tricks up their sleeves.

The words Emperor Yuanhe spoke to her by name when she left Fanghua Palace still echo in her ears.

That calm look in her eyes was like the calm before a storm; either she wouldn't survive the night, or Yu Nanqing would save her life.

This is what she meant by something beyond her control.

Upon hearing her words, Si Yang's fist clenched slightly in his sleeve. If he could really live out the rest of his life by ignoring her, he wouldn't be living like a walking corpse every day.

However, compared to Yu Nanqing and Su Wanyan's situation, his own affairs seemed so insignificant.

For a moment, Si Yang was speechless.

Su Wanyan didn't say anything more to him, turned around and pushed Yu Nanqing to leave.

Si Yang took a step forward: "Wait a minute."

Su Wanyan turned her head.

Si Yang stepped forward, his tall figure casting Su Wanyan into shadow.

Yu Nanqing's brows immediately darkened, and he turned his wheelchair to block Su Wanyan's path. Si Yang, however, did not care. He bowed and lowered his voice, saying softly, "The Princess has planted assassins on both sides of Xuan Yang Street."

Xuanyang Street was the only way to enter the palace.

Su Wanyan's eyebrows twitched slightly: "Aren't you afraid that the Princess will hold you accountable for telling us this?"

That's good; knowing there's an ambush there means they can at least take precautions in advance.

Si Yang did not reply to her, but continued, "The Princess always discusses matters with the Emperor. I do not know if the Emperor will be involved in this matter, so please be careful."

After saying that, he straightened up, bowed respectfully to Yu Nanqing and Su Wanyan, and turned to leave.

Su Wanyan watched his retreating figure, and just as he walked further and further away, she suddenly spoke: "The Prince Gong's Mansion will remember the Prince Consort's kindness."

Yu Nanqing found it strange: "Why is it the Prince Gong's Mansion?"

Don't most people say, "I have remembered so-and-so's kindness"?

"If we're not talking about the Prince's Mansion, are we talking about me? I never owe anyone favors. He provided us with information, which saved you, your family business, your subordinates, and the rest of your life." In any case, she would never owe anyone a favor.

Because once you owe someone a favor, it's never-ending. You repay it every time, and then you repay it again, and the cycle goes on and on without end.

"And what about you?"

"Me?"

Su Wanyan uttered two words and then fell silent. To be frank, she still fantasizes about returning to the modern world.

She was living a good life in the modern world, studying hard the night before, but when she woke up, she found herself in this ruthless and rule-bound era. How could she accept this?

But she had no chance to die, nor did she dare to die. However, if she was forced to and could not avoid it, then there was nothing she could do.

Thinking about it this way, I realized that death isn't so scary after all.

But she didn't dare to gamble. What if she really died and couldn't return to the modern world?

So she's currently in a state of both cherishing her life and not being particularly afraid of dying, which is quite contradictory.

Of course, it would be best if she could survive. After all, she has found something to do now. If she were to be abandoned, she would always be thinking about it even if she returned to the modern world.

Yu Nanqing strained his ears, eager to hear Su Wanyan's answer, but all he received was silence. Unwilling to give up, Yu Nanqing demanded, "Why aren't you saying anything?"

"What can I, a weak woman who can't even kill a chicken, do? If the assassin really comes, I'll just stay here and hold you back. What right do I have to complain? Do you think I'm like you, paralyzed in bed, needing me to take care of everything, and still daring to give me attitude?"

"...Now, I don't have it anymore, do I?" She really can remember the smallest things for a very long time.

Yu Nanqing said weakly.
