Chapter 13: I can't stop eating

Li Li didn't expect this to happen and was choked and speechless for a moment.

"Sister-in-law, didn't you say this morning that the two families will share the cost of eating together? So how about the money for meat and vegetables today..."

"You bought the meat and vegetables yourself. They are so expensive, so eat them yourself. I can't afford them!"

After saying that, Li Li took out the meat and vegetables that Yun Mo bought at noon, and stuffed them into Yun Mo's arms.

Yun Mo held the meat and vegetables, looking embarrassed, "Sister-in-law, how can I eat so much meat and vegetables by myself? It's so hot, they will go bad if left for too long, let's share it."

"Who wants to share with you? Just buy it and eat it yourself!"

After saying that, Li Li picked up her son and went back into the house, slamming the door shut, fearing that she would be dragged down by Yun Mo and become an embarrassment.

"Aunt."

Yun Mo lowered her head and looked at Ling Chunhua's worried face, and couldn't help but smile knowingly.

She made a hushing gesture, took Ling Chunhua outside, then took out a White Rabbit candy, peeled off the candy wrapper, and fed the milky white candy to Ling Chunhua's mouth.

"Eat it, I saved it for you."

"Thank you, Auntie."

Smelling the aroma of the candy, Ling Chunhua's eyes lit up, but she did not open her mouth immediately. Instead, she took the candy with her hand, gently bit half of it, and then handed the remaining half back to Yun Mo.

"Aunt, you eat too."

"good."

Yun Mo took half a candy and put it in her mouth, then pulled Ling Chunhua into the kitchen.

Yun Mo asked Ling Chunhua to help turn up the fire on the stove. She turned around and poured some spiritual spring water into the gourd ladle while scooping water, and then poured it into the pot together with clean water. After the water boiled, she put two cabbages into the pot, and when they were cooked through, she took them out and set them to dry for later use.

"Chunhua, do you have an empty jar at home?"

"have!"

Ling Chunhua quickly brought her a one-foot-tall clay pot.

Yun Mo took the pottery jar and looked at it. It was the right size, but there was some water in it, and it didn't smell bad.

"What was this used for before?"

"My mother used it to soak salted duck eggs. After the eggs were eaten, the jar was empty."

Yun Mo washed the pottery jar, put it in the yard to dry, then used a basin to collect the water used to blanch the cabbage and let it cool for later use.

After doing all this, Yun Mo washed the potatoes and pork, cut them into thumb-sized pieces, and prepared to make a dish of potatoes and pork.

Half an hour later, the potatoes and pork were served. The rich aroma of meat immediately filled the entire courtyard. Even Li Li in the house was drooling with greed.

"I want to eat meat! Wow, I want to eat meat!"

Just as Yun Mo was carrying pork stewed with potatoes towards her room, she heard Ling Jiale crying from Li Li's room.

She and Chunhua couldn't finish the whole bowl of braised pork with potatoes, so they decided to share some with their nephew.

Just as this thought flashed through Yun Mo's mind, she heard Li Li's voice coaxing Ling Jiale from inside the room.

"Whoever eats it will have a sore mouth. We won't eat it. Be good. Mom will fry some steamed bread slices for you tomorrow."

You are the one with a bad mouth, your whole family has bad mouths.

Yun Mo glared at the window of Li Li's house angrily, then turned to Ling Chunhua and said, "Chunhua, let's go back to the house and eat meat."

Ling Chunhua nodded heavily and looked at Yun Mo with sparkling eyes.

My aunt is not only good-looking, but the food she cooks is also delicious. She is so amazing!

"Chunhua! Where have you been? Why don't you come back and wash the dishes? You've been lazy all day long. You're so lazy that you'll die!"

"Aunt, I'm going back first!"

Seeing Ling Chunhua's nervousness and fear, Yun Mo had no choice but to pinch a piece of meat and stuff it into Ling Chunhua's mouth.

"Go back and wash the dishes first, then come quietly over later. I'll leave them for you."

Ling Chunhua swallowed the meat in a few bites, wiped her mouth, turned around and ran out.

"Eat, eat, eat. All you know is eating. Are you a dog that can never be fed? You just follow whoever gives you meat!"

Li Li was still cursing outside, but Yun Mo pretended not to hear anything and ate with gusto, taking a bite of potato and another bite of meat.

Due to limited conditions, the Ling family’s kitchen only has three seasonings: oil, salt and soy sauce. However, with the blessing of spiritual spring water, even simple cooking can produce the most delicious dishes.

After eating and taking a rest, Yun Mo went out to pickle the cabbage in a ceramic jar to make sauerkraut. However, when she went out, she found that the ceramic jar was gone and the cabbage water she had put in the basin for pickling sauerkraut had also been poured out.

It's clear who did it without asking, Yun Mo was very angry.

It's too late now and I can't go out to buy a jar of sauerkraut. The cabbage has been cooked and will go bad if it is not pickled in time.

Yun Mo had no choice but to find a Ming Dynasty blue and white porcelain jar from the space and pickled the two cabbages with the spiritual spring water.

Blue and white porcelain from the Ming Dynasty is very rare, and this one is of top quality. Yun Mo was worried that it would be accidentally damaged if she put it in the kitchen, so she brought it into her room.

The next day, Yun Mo was woken up by Ling Chunhua's knocking on the door while she was still asleep.

"Aunt, my mother asked me to wake you up and make breakfast."

Yun Mo glanced sleepily at the gray sky outside the window, then yawned and got up from the bed.

After washing up, Yun Mo went to the kitchen for a walk, then went back to the house to get some change and went to the street corner to buy a few vegetable buns, plus 5 cents of soy milk.

When she was going back, Li Li saw the steamed buns and soy milk in her hands and couldn't help but say a few sarcastic words to her.

"My sister-in-law really knows how to enjoy life. She had steamed buns yesterday morning, a big bowl of potatoes and pork in the evening, and this morning she had steamed buns and soy milk again. If you didn't know, you would think our Ling family has made a fortune."

Some people are just cheap and can't stop talking even if there's food to eat.

"It turns out that my sister-in-law doesn't like to enjoy life and prefers to eat bran and pickled vegetables. OK, I get it."

Yun Mo carried the buns and soy milk back to her room, then went into the kitchen to cook a small pot of white porridge, and steamed the multi-grain steamed buns that she hadn't finished eating yesterday.

"Where's the food?"

Li Li looked unhappy when she saw that Yun Mo had hidden the buns and soy milk and only gave them white porridge and multi-grain steamed bread.

Yun Mo looked at the other person in surprise, "Are there any vegetables at home? Where are they? Why can't I see them?"

"Where are the potatoes you cooked last night?"

"I'm done."

"You finished such a big pot by yourself?"

"Well, didn't you, sister-in-law, tell me to eat it myself?"

Li Li ran to Yun Mo's room unwillingly and looked around, but she didn't find any potatoes or pork. She turned around and saw a blue and white porcelain jar at the foot of the bed. She bent down and wanted to open it, but was stopped by Yun Mo who followed in.

"Sister-in-law, this is the pickled cabbage I made. You can't eat it now."

Li Li pouted and turned her head to look at the buns and soy milk on the wooden table. She rolled her eyes and said kindly, "Sister-in-law, my Jiale is a picky eater and won't eat without vegetables. You bought so many buns and you can't finish them anyway, so give two to Jiale."
