Chapter 8: Mrs. Qin chases the "vegetable thief"
Qin Qinghui secretly ran to his own vegetable garden and pulled up a handful of wild onions that he and his third sister had planted before, and dug up two pieces of wild ginger.
Qin Qinghui was afraid that her family would find out and not let her go to her brother-in-law's house, so she was very cautious, fearing that her family would find out.
At this hour, none of the Qin family members were at home, only Mrs. Qin was alone. Mrs. Qin went to the backyard to feed the chickens and found a figure running out of her vegetable garden.
Because the figure ran too fast, Mrs. Qin couldn't see clearly, but she was sure whose child was stealing vegetables in her own vegetable garden.
No family was rich these days. This vegetable garden was previously taken care of by the granddaughter and grandson. The vegetables in the garden were reserved for entertaining the granddaughter and grandson-in-law when they came back.
The granddaughter and grandson-in-law were robbed before they could eat. Mrs. Qin didn't even feed the chickens, but put down the chicken feed and chased after them.
Mrs. Qin has been working all year round and is an old lady with nimble hands and feet. Although she cannot match Qin Qinghui's speed, she is catching up from a distance.
Granny Qin chased after him and shouted, "Stop!" But when Qin Qinghui heard it was his grandmother, he thought Granny Qin had seen him and was coming to take him home, so he ran even faster.
Mrs. Qin found that the person in front not only did not stop, but ran even faster. Mrs. Qin became even angrier, and now she was more convinced that this person had picked vegetables from her house.
So the old man and the child kept chasing each other until Qin Qinghui ran into the Gu family's yard.
"Third sister, I got what you wanted." Qin Qinghui ran and sweated as he put the wild onions and ginger on the stone table in the yard.
"Thank you, fifth brother. Why are you running so fast? Third sister is not in a hurry. Sit down and rest for a while." Qin Zhizhi joked when she saw her cousin sweating from running.
"Brother Qinghui, drink some water!" Gu Jingyao poured a bowl of warm water from the kitchen and handed it to Qin Qinghui.
"Thank you, Sister Yaoer!" Qin Qinghui took the water and drank it in big gulps. Gu Jingyao took the bowl, washed it in the yard, and brought it back to the kitchen.
At this time, Mrs. Qin also caught up. When Gu Jingyao came out of the kitchen, she saw Mrs. Qin at the door of her yard, hesitating whether to come in.
Gu Jingyao thought that Granny Qin was here to see her sister-in-law, so she called out sweetly, "Mom, sister-in-law, Granny Qin is here."
Qin Zhizhi and Gu's mother looked up in surprise and saw Mrs. Qin at the gate of the courtyard.
"Grandma, why are you here at this hour? Did something happen at home?" Qin Zhizhi was a little worried.
"Aunt Qin, please come in and sit down." The Gu family is usually taken care of by the Qin family, and now they are even closer relatives. Seeing Aunt Qin coming to visit, Gu's mother is even happier.
"Hey, Zhizhi, don't worry. Everything is fine at home. Grandma just saw a figure running out of our vegetable garden and chased after him."
Mrs. Qin felt a little embarrassed, fearing that Mrs. Gu would misunderstand the Qin family and put her granddaughter in a difficult position.
Upon hearing this, both Gu's mother and Qin Zhizhi laughed. Qin Zhizhi personally helped the mother-in-law sit down and jokingly said, "Grandma, take a closer look. That figure is wearing the same clothes as Fifth Brother."
After her granddaughter reminded her, Granny Qin suddenly realized what was happening. She glared at her grandson and asked, "What are you doing sneaking around in the vegetable garden?"
Qin Qinghui was afraid that Grandma would beat him, so he stuttered and said, "I...I went to help Third Sister get something. It was originally planted by Third Sister and me."
"If your third sister needs anything, just tell grandma. I called you and you ran away. You're going to tire grandma to death."
The more Mrs. Qin thought about it, the angrier she became. It wasn't like she was reluctant to give her granddaughter anything she wanted, but her little grandson was going to piss her off to death.
"If I don't run away and you catch me, you will definitely not let me come to my third sister's house. Mother won't let me come these days." Qin Qinghui muttered softly.
"Grandma, don't be angry. Look, we caught a lot of fish. My mother-in-law and I are processing them. Can you help us?"
Qin Zhizhi liked Qin Pozi very much, perhaps because of their blood relationship, or perhaps because of the protection and love she showed to her on their wedding day.
She knew that if she didn't find something for her grandmother to do, she would definitely feel uncomfortable.
"Zhizhi, this thing is very fishy and not tasty. Why did you make so much of it?" Mrs. Qin thought that the Gu family had no food, so she planned to ask her second son to send some over in the evening.
"Grandma, your granddaughter has a way to make them delicious. When I'm done, I'll make them for you to try."
As soon as Qin Zhizhi acted coquettishly, Mrs. Qin forgot about going home.
With the addition of Mrs. Qin, the three of them quickly processed the fish. Qin Zhizhi roughly classified the fish. Crucian carp was used to make soup, braised, and black carp was used to make fish balls.
Only after Qin Zhizhi and Gu's mother enthusiastically persuaded her did Mrs. Qin agree to stay to help and have dinner.
Seeing that grandma finally nodded in agreement, Qin Qinghui finally breathed a sigh of relief. He was afraid that grandma would drag him back home and he would miss out on his third sister's delicious food.
There are three big black fish caught today. Qin Zhizhi decided to use them all to make fish balls. She will keep some for the Gu family and give some to the Qin family so that everyone can have a taste.
Qin Zhizhi first cut off the meatless heads of the three big black fish and put them aside to make soup later.
Qin Zhizhi is quite knowledgeable about food. Before she traveled through the book, she loved to prepare her own food and was very good at preparing fish.
Then he cut the fish meat along the big bone in the middle and deftly removed the fish bones and skin from the belly, leaving the others stunned.
The three little ones were more adoring, while Mrs. Qin and Mother Gu were filled with pride.
Qin Zhizhi cut the fish into small pieces and placed them in a basin. She said to Granny Qin and Mother Gu, "Grandma, Mom, please help me soak the fish in the basin for a while, then wash it several times."
The two of them quickly carried the fish to the yard to clean it. After all the preparations were done, it was time to make the fish paste.
There is no mixer here, so we have to rely on manpower. Fortunately, there are three people who take turns doing it.
After the fish paste was processed, Qin Zhizhi placed it in a large basin, added some salt, and asked her mother-in-law for a few eggs.
These eggs were laid by the Gu family's chickens. They were usually reluctant to eat them, but today Qin Zhizhi wanted to use them, so Gu's mother gave them to her without hesitation.
Qin Zhizhi quickly separated the egg white and egg yolk, put the egg white together with the fish paste, and then went to the kitchen to secretly exchange some starch with the system.
Pretend to go back to the kitchen, get some flour and pour it into the bowl, then stir it continuously in one direction until the fish is firm.
Qin Zhizhi poured half a pot of water into the pot and asked her mother-in-law to prepare the fire. Then she grabbed a handful of fish meat with her hands, squeezed it into the shape of meatballs, caught it with a spoon, and put it into the pot.
Qin Zhizhi was teaching Qin Pozi while she was doing the cooking. Qin Pozi learned quickly. After putting the fish balls into the pot, she cooked them until they floated, and then cooked them for a while.
The meatballs need to be soaked in cold water, changing the water several times.
After the fish balls were made, Qin Zhizhi stuffed one into each of the people's mouths, and everyone responded with praise.
"Sister-in-law, this is delicious!"
"Third sister, this is really not fishy, it tastes better than meat!"
Mrs. Qin and Mrs. Gu were also amazed. They didn't expect that something that no one wanted could be so delicious.
