In that instant, Bai Musheng had an impulse to take Xiao Qingyin away at all costs, to take her away from this empty, cold white tower that had accumulated countless vengeful spirits.
But he suppressed the thought as soon as it surfaced.
It's too late.
How could they possibly escape when they were right under the noses of the Holy Lord and the Holy Army?
That's just wishful thinking.
He was momentarily stunned, bowed respectfully, then turned and walked out of the Holy Tower without looking back.
His walking speed was much faster than usual.
If he didn't hurry, he feared he might change his mind and perish like a moth drawn to a flame.
After leaving Santa Square, he stopped and looked back.
The door was closed, blocking his view.
He didn't know what the situation was like in the temple at that moment, nor did he dare to imagine it.
My heart aches as if it were being slowly sliced to pieces, a dense, persistent pain.
This pain feels familiar.
A long-forgotten memory came flooding back to my mind.
When he escorted Xiao Qingyin to the residence of that educational official, he stood outside the door for a long time, feeling as if all the warmth in the world had left him, leaving only endless coldness and darkness.
With tears in his eyes, he swore that this was the last time, and that he would never allow anyone to bully or humiliate him to this extent again.
But why did he end up back where he started, giving his love away again?
Hasn't he become wiser and stronger?
Why is he still being trampled on like this?
Overwhelmed by a strong sense of defeat, he collapsed weakly to the ground as if his spine had been removed.
Xiao Qingyin was unaware that Bai Musheng was in unbearable pain, undergoing an examination by a group of female envoys.
They removed all her clothes and then dressed her in a white robe.
After changing, she followed the Holy Lord up the tower.
Everything inside the tower was white: the white floor, the white dome, the white stairs, the white walls, the white holy messengers…
Only the Holy Lord was dressed in black.
Like a ghost.
The Holy Lord led her to a room on the east side of the third floor, the very room where he usually held meetings by the window.
The style of the room was completely different from that of the temple.
The temple is minimalist and pure white, but the rooms are filled with complex and vibrant colors.
The colors are mostly created using snakeskin; the carpet is patchwork of snakeskin in various colors, the chair armrests are covered with python skin, and the wall decorations are pure white snake skulls.
Even the blankets on the bed have a king cobra pattern.
There are too many snake elements, which makes people feel intimidated.
Xiao Qingyin thought to herself, "No wonder they're from the Ba family, they love snakes to the core."
After entering the room, the Holy Lord carefully observed Xiao Qingyin's expression and was surprised to see that she showed no panic.
Aren't you scared?
Xiao Qingyin looked at him blankly: "Should I be afraid?"
The Holy Lord laughed heartily.
"It's good that you're not afraid. Go close the window and draw the curtains."
Xiao Qingyin did as instructed.
As she closed the window, she heard a click; it was the Holy Lord locking the door from the inside.
The curtains were thick and also had a gorgeous snakeskin pattern.
Even after the drawer was closed, the room did not darken.
Xiao Qingyin looked up and saw the roof full of luminous pearls, each as big as a fist.
Do you like it?
The Holy Lord asked.
Xiao Qingyin nodded.
A single one is worth a fortune; who wouldn't love it?
"You'll see it every day from now on."
The Holy Lord doted on him.
He beckoned, "Come here, help me change my clothes first."
Xiao Qingyin stepped forward, but before she even reached his side, he suddenly reached out and tried to put his arm around her waist.
Without hesitation, she raised her leg and kicked.
The Holy Lord slammed his head against the back of the door with a "bang".
His expression changed instantly.
His eyes turned incredibly sinister.
"You're not poisoned?"
Xiao Qingyin smiled and said, "You mean the poison those maids gave me? It's a pity, it was completely useless."
The Holy Lord stared intently at her, and suddenly let out a hissing sound.
Xiao Qingyin felt a pang of fear and instinctively darted to her right.
A stream of venom landed in front of where she had just been standing, steaming and turning white.
She turned around and, wow!
A king cobra stood in front of the bed, its head raised, staring at her menacingly.
Behind it, several triangular heads popped out from under the bed.
The furniture, which had been silent just moments before, suddenly sprouted snakes, and a python even crawled out from under the carpet.
It turned out that most of the snake-patterned decorations she had just seen were real snakes in disguise.
This isn't a room at all.
It was clearly a snake pit.
As she looked around, the Holy Lord had already regained his footing and summoned several snakes to block his way.
Xiao Qingyin had never seen these snakes before, but judging from their brightly colored patterns, they were undoubtedly venomous snakes.
The Holy Lord said grimly, "It's not too late for you to surrender now."
"It's more appropriate for me to say that."
Xiao Qingyin said calmly.
"If you want to live a few more days, you'd better surrender immediately."
The Holy Lord's eyes turned cold.
He snapped his fingers lightly, and snakes all over the room lunged at Xiao Qingyin.
Xiao Qingyin pulled a handful of hair from her head, crushed it into ash, and sprinkled it on the snakes.
These hairs are all fake.
It was a shape-shifting drug she had specially prepared for this tower-stealing operation.
Upon encountering the grayish snake, they all froze and fell to the ground. The Holy Lord's expression changed, realizing that Xiao Qingyin was more dangerous than any assassin he had ever faced before.
He reached out to pull the rope on the right side of the doorknob, which was connected to a bell outside. Pulling it would summon the Holy Messenger to rescue him.
However, before he could even touch the rope, Xiao Qingyin threw a handful of ashes at him.
