The cavalrymen had just woken up.
A sky ablaze with rosy dawn, birds singing merrily, and the air fresh and invigorating—waking up in such a wilderness would be a truly delightful experience.
But none of them felt this joy.
Everyone was holding their heads in their hands, their eyes were bloodshot, their eyes were dark circles, and their faces were filled with pain.
They've had nightmares for two nights in a row.
The moment he closes his eyes, he is hunted down, dying in all sorts of bizarre ways, and dying again and again.
Waking up is more tiring than killing a hundred or eighty people.
"He must be possessed by an evil spirit."
Some people are certain of this.
"We need to go back to the capital to find a shaman to exorcise the evil spirits."
The others chimed in, "That's right, they must be possessed by an evil spirit, otherwise why would everyone have the same dream for two nights in a row?"
The team leader had a gloomy face and remained silent.
He suspected that the Da Xi merchant caravan he had encountered the night before was behind it.
But he kept his eyes on those people the whole time, and none of them left his sight. They didn't do anything unusual either. How did he manage that?
Could it be that we've been cursed?
That's not impossible either.
This area is an ancient battlefield where tens of thousands of people died. Their remains are buried underground, and their vengeful spirits may still be there.
They haven't had a good night's sleep for two days in a row. If this continues, they'll collapse.
Thinking of this, he stood up, supporting himself with his long sword.
"Let's search for another day. If we still can't find that wretched girl, we'll go and meet up with General Ang tomorrow."
The cavalrymen responded in unison, "Yes!"
The group ate some dry rations quickly and then packed up their tents.
Just as they tied their luggage to their horses, a cavalryman suddenly shouted, "There's a silver earring here!"
The others immediately crowded around.
"The style looks familiar, like I've seen it somewhere before."
“It’s from the Agu tribe! Check if their totem is engraved on the earrings.”
"Yes! It really is the Agu tribe."
"It must have been left behind by that little wench; she might be somewhere nearby!"
"..."
The cavalrymen were immediately invigorated.
After examining the tracks left on the grass, the team leader pointed south and said, "Chase them this way."
Everyone did as instructed.
After chasing for about fifteen minutes, they saw a familiar figure rushing into the woods ahead in a panic.
They all excitedly chased after them inside.
The leader's horse was the best and fastest, and it was the first to enter the woods.
The others followed closely behind.
The forest was full of trees and thick bushes, and their horses got trapped as soon as they rushed in.
They had no choice but to dismount and chase after him.
The team leader followed the figure ahead at a leisurely pace, like a cat catching a mouse, enjoying the thrill of the hunt.
The person in front became increasingly nervous, tripping over the bushes several times and almost unable to get up.
The team leader watched with great interest, completely unaware that his subordinates were searching in completely different directions.
Just as he was about to strike after seeing enough of the other person's panicked expression, a sudden pain shot through the back of his neck, and he lost consciousness.
The cavalrymen chased after him, but he disappeared.
Just as they were wondering what was going on, their boss came over with a man and a woman.
The woman was none other than Aman, whom they were hunting, and the man was Aman's lover, whom they had previously shot.
They immediately surrounded him with surprised expressions, flattering him, "Boss is really amazing, taking down two in one go."
The team leader snorted and tossed the man to them.
He then pulled Ah Man away.
"Keep up, don't waste your time here."
The cavalryman who caught the man was stunned for a moment.
"Boss, should we take this guy away or deal with him?"
"take away."
The team leader's words were concise and to the point.
"How dare he try to snatch someone from our Emperor? We have to take him back to the capital to experience the Imperial Prison."
The cavalryman suddenly realized what was happening.
"Hehe, the boss is right. It's time to teach this guy who's got a lot of guts a lesson."
After saying that, she kicked the man hard.
"You made us eat so many bones, just wait till I get my hands on you."
The team leader was kicked awake and, upon hearing his words, was instantly enraged.
I immediately wanted to grab a whip and give this kid a good beating.
Only when he realized that his hands and feet were tied, he had no strength at all, and he couldn't even speak did he suddenly remember what had just happened.
He was knocked unconscious!
Who did it?
He scanned the cavalrymen, trying to find the culprit.
The most suspicious people are the few troublemakers in the team.
They were dissatisfied with him because they were better than him in terms of skills, and some people had heard them talking drunkenly about killing him and taking over his position.
Is this the time they chose to strike?
For a moment, he couldn't help but feel annoyed.
If I had known, I wouldn't have chased after them so aggressively alone. At least I would have kept my trusted confidants by my side, so they wouldn't have had a chance to take advantage of me.
One of the troublemakers noticed his gaze and lashed out with his whip.
"What are you looking at! Look again and I'll gouge your eyes out and roast them to eat!"
Team leader: "!!!"
That's outrageous!
To his surprise, everyone else, including his confidants, remained indifferent when they heard this troublemaker's words.
It was as if he deserved to be treated this way.
He was horrified.
Did everyone manage to be subdued by those few troublemakers without his knowledge?
When he was put on horseback and tied to his luggage, and set off with the others, he caught up with his own horse and saw a man who looked exactly like him. Only then did he realize with horror that it wasn't the troublemakers who did it.
He was impersonated.
The other party used some means to make him look like their twin brother.
