Chapter 7: Trouble

Liu Kui's head ached from her noise. He sneered, "Shut up! You know what's going on better than anyone else. Don't treat others like fools!"

Xiao Jing wanted to continue crying, but her mother rushed in and slapped her: "Are all the men in the world dead? You shameless woman, you are just like your mother, you like to use others who have used you."

Xiao Jing was stunned. She stared at her mother blankly: "Mom, I, I am not your child, am I not?"

Mother Xiao pouted at her and said, "I would never give birth to someone as shameless as you. If it weren't for the old man suppressing me, would I have endured it until now?"

Xiao Jing didn't believe it: "Mom, don't you want me anymore?"

"Bah - shameless bitch, I raised you until you were seventeen, and you didn't learn any good qualities. But you learned all of your mother's coquettishness." Xiao's mother was really angry.

Back then, she felt sorry for her mother being a widow and occasionally helped her, but she never thought that she would have an affair with the old man.

Seeing Xiao Jing remained silent, Xiao's mother continued to scold: "Shameless vixen, you didn't even let your own brother-in-law go, why don't you just die?"

Liu Kui slammed the table and said, "Shut up! This is an interrogation room, not a market. What are you doing? You're making such a fuss! Get out of here!"

Xiao's mother spat at Xiao Jing before walking out of the interrogation room angrily.

Song Ran didn't know that his father had been arrested. He was blocking Xu Xin at the entrance of the textile factory.

When he saw Xu Xin coming out of the factory, he ran over excitedly like a dog seeing its owner: "Comrade Xu Xin, I'm breaking off the engagement."

Xu Xinchang looked straight at Song Ran, as if giving him an electric shock: "Comrade Song, we are not even friends. What does your breaking off the engagement have to do with me?"

Xu Xin is fair-skinned, petite, and has a soft voice. Strong words have a different flavor when they come out of her mouth.

Song Ran felt a pang in his heart when he heard this: "Comrade Xu, I don't have a fiancée now, can we be friends?"

Xu Xin smiled: "It depends on your performance."

Song Ran covered his pounding chest and smiled like a fool: "I will definitely perform well."

Li Chengye was passing by and saw Song Ran smiling coquettishly at a lesbian. He rushed over and punched him directly: "You are a man with a relationship, how can you smile like this at another lesbian?"

Song Ran's smile faded: "I'm breaking off the engagement."

Li Chengye's eyes almost popped out of his head: "Why? Your grandfather arranged the marriage!

Song Ran, I didn't expect you to be this kind of person. As soon as your grandfather died, you called off the engagement. Aren't you afraid that your grandfather will climb out of his coffin and beat you up?"

Song Ran thought of the 600 yuan that Xu Jiajia's family had ripped him off, and instantly became angry. He frowned and gritted his teeth, saying, "That woman is not a good person. She cheated my family out of 600 yuan."

"hiss--"

"Hiss—" Li Chengye and Xu Xin gasped in surprise. Six hundred? Was she crazy?

"If I hadn't sworn that I would never see her again, I would have gone to her and asked for money."

Song Ran looked like a victim, which aroused Li Chengye's sympathy. He was disgusted by Xu Jiajia's behavior of defrauding money: "Where does that woman live? I'll go find her!"

Song Ran just wanted Li Chengye to go and make some noise. Seeing that his goal had been achieved, he couldn't help but raise the corner of his mouth. Fearing that Li Chengye would notice, he quickly suppressed it: "Xu Jiajia in Shifeng Village, it only takes an hour to ride a bike there."

Li Chengye, full of justice, patted his chest and said loudly: "Don't worry, I will definitely make her pay back the money."

Xu Xin was quite smart and knew that things were not that simple as soon as she heard it, but she didn't say anything.

The next day.

Shen Yuebai brought the matchmaker to Xu's house early.

The matchmaker had a square face with a black mole at the corner of her mouth. Her hair was tied into a bun and held in a net bag. In her hand, she was holding a handkerchief embroidered with plum blossoms.

She twisted her hips and looked at Old Lady Xu with a smile: "As expected of someone who fought against the Japanese, she replaced her grandson-in-law without a single word."

Each one is better than the last.

Although Comrade Shen has a troublesome stepmother at home, he is capable!

He is the deputy battalion commander at such a young age, which is unique in the area within a hundred miles.

I wonder how many people are eyeing this fat sheep?

Mrs. Xu is really quick!

But, didn’t Jia Jia have an arranged marriage before?

I haven't heard of breaking off the engagement!

The matchmaker looked at Old Lady Xu with a gossipy expression: "Mrs. Xu, when did Jia Jia cancel the engagement? She's a good worker, why did you cancel it just like that? Is it Comrade Song who's not good enough, or what?"

Old Lady Xu pushed away the matchmaker who was approaching her: "You spit on my face."

The matchmaker wiped her mouth with a handkerchief and looked at Old Lady Xu cheerfully: "You can tell me now."

Old Mrs. Xu ignored her.

The matchmaker approached Old Lady Xu again and said, "Sister-in-law, just tell me. You know I'm a normal person. I just like to hear these things."

Old Mrs. Xu turned around and looked at her straight in the eye: "You don't want to be a matchmaker anymore, right?"

This sentence immediately calmed the matchmaker who was eager to watch the show, and she got down to business: "Xiao Shen and Jia Jia both like each other, so I won't say any more nonsense.

Before coming here, I checked the date and the day after tomorrow is a good day, so we can choose to get engaged on that day."

Shen Yuebai put the things he brought on the table and said, "I already submitted a marriage report yesterday. The boss said it will be approved in about a month. Let's get engaged first, and then ask for leave to come back and get the marriage certificate."

Old Lady Xu was afraid that Shen Yuebai's stepmother would cause trouble, so she wanted to do it all at once: "No need for engagement, just get married directly. If you can't get a marriage certificate, you can hold a wedding banquet first."

Shen Yuebai was stunned, and after reacting, he quickly organized his words: "Grandma, time is too short, and there is no time to prepare many things."
