Chapter 10

Chapter 10

What the patrolmen encountered wasn't a gangster or a fleeing thug. What brought justice to a halt was a kiss that elicited moans and splattered saliva, and a young couple who appeared to be in a state of deep affection.

The people who witnessed this scene froze and looked at each other.

A bony hand brushed the hair by the ear and pushed it back. The little finger hooked the ear bone clip and then wrapped around the five fingers of Xiang Mingqi's left hand.

Pei Huai only glanced at a few people out of the corner of his eyes, without concealing the wariness in his eyes. He stood on tiptoe and deepened the kiss.

"It's them." The financial officer suddenly remembered that he could still move his tongue and pointed his index finger forward. "They're the ones who stole my bag and threatened me... threatened to hurt me!"

"I don't see any bag." Xiang Mingqi realized Pei Huai's briefcase had vanished. The leading patrol officer asked, perplexed, "Could you two stop for a moment? This gentleman says you assaulted him and attempted to steal his property."

"I believe the police won't believe one-sided words." Pei Huai said as he pushed his tongue into the younger generation's teeth, licked the upper palate mucosa, and kissed him out with a few muffled groans.

Before separating, he bit his lower lip again and pulled hard.

Xiang Mingqi leaned forward by inertia, his chin protruding, and his face red to the base of his neck, as if he was not used to showing his gums.

Pei Huai's glance was slow and lazy as he bit his lip, like a cat enjoying the warm afternoon, with a sticky line on the edge of his lips.

He prompted, "Say something, officer."

The patrolman who was called raised his hands politely in front of his chest and took a half step back, giving Pei Huai enough time to tie up his hair.

He didn't approach. Instead, he lowered his head and fiddled with the microphone awkwardly. "Please come with us, all three of you. We need to understand the situation."

"What? I don't want to go to the police station. I have important things to deal with later. I can't..." Hearing this, the victim's face became uglier. He went from mumbling to pleading, and then to compromising. "Less than an hour! I have to rush to the airport. Officer, let's talk about this later, okay?"

"Your time is precious, and unfortunately, so is mine." Pei Huai gathered a handful of hair from the back of his neck and tied it loosely. As he swung his wrist, his eyes fixed on the financial officer. "Shall we go?"

"No, no! I will never--!" Under the suspicious gaze of everyone, the man stepped back repeatedly, shook his head, and looked around nervously.

At the moment when the patrolman had to grab his shoulders to calm him down, he shouted as if he saw something, took a step forward, and rushed across the street desperately - the accident happened in this instant.

From an unnoticed corner, a black car sped by, its engine roaring through the air. Suddenly, loud bangs, screams, a deformed guardrail, and the car's body, half-remaining, plunging into a streetside shop, suddenly appeared before our eyes.

The patrolmen looked at each other, adjusted their hats, and immediately entered the scene to maintain order.

Pei Huai looked at the dark corner of the alley where the disaster was coming, thoughtfully, pushed himself over the wall with his hands, and picked up the briefcase he had thrown over a few minutes ago.

When he returned, he saw Xiang Mingqi slumped over, his shoulders slumped, his eyes staring blankly, his chest rising and falling noticeably, and he gasping for breath.

Pei Huai asked doubtfully, "You have asthma?"

"No, no, no." His limbs seemed disconnected from his brain, and even his tongue joined the strike. He spoke incoherently and waved his hands hurriedly. "I'm in good physical condition. My sophomore year in college, I fought six football quarterbacks and never lost..."

"Then get up."

"Ah, okay, okay." He tried several times to hold onto the wall before finally finding his balance. He hesitated to meet his senior's gaze. "See, I told you I could do it. So, where should we go next? Should we report to the company? But that thing has been shattered into pieces. What about the contract?"

Pei Huai did not respond to these questions that did not require a response.

He led his juniors through the crowd, checked every buckle and compartment of the briefcase from inside to outside, and walked in the opposite direction of the company.

"Don't be silent to me." Xiang Mingqi scratched his cheek, looking back from time to time to observe the situation on the scene. "Today is my first mission. Brother, Brother Pei Huai - please praise me!"

Faced with such a meaningless proposal, Pei Huai felt unmotivated and could only sigh.

After calming down a bit, Xiang Mingqi poked his senior in the back again and leaned over to whisper, "By the way, aren't you afraid of being taken in for questioning by the police? We're not law-abiding citizens after all."

"That person won't go."

"That guy? The one who was just knocked away? What did you find?"

"A little coincidence."

"Wow what a coincidence?"

"——Debts owed, car accident. Who is the biggest beneficiary of this incident?"

"Oh, is it time for questions now? I just happened to have a theory that sounds pretty plausible." He wasn't sure if he was trying to liven things up or just be funny, as he waved his hands in the air in different shapes. "Could it be that a biotech company, desperate to create market demand, resorted to hiring a killer? Wow, that explanation has a popcorn movie feel to it."

"Is it funny?" The question came as calmly as the surface of a lake.

"There you go again, fierce. We just went through a car accident and a police interrogation, a once-in-a-lifetime experience."

Pei Huai looked at him, ignoring the expectation in his eyes: "Do you know how much money he pocketed?"

"I forgot."

"One million and a half."

"How many backpacks would you need for 1.5 million? I'm not good at math, so I don't have any idea."

"...The whereabouts of this money are unknown. He has no assets to his name that could be used to explain this." Pei Huai paused, pursing his lips in displeasure. "It's clearly written in the report."

Xiang Mingqi knew he was in the wrong, so he looked away. "Brother, now that you remind me, I remember it's indeed that number."

The hesitation between his brows didn't ease. Clearly, Pei Huai thought he was talking nonsense, but he tried to get to the point: "The money has likely already been transferred to someone else. He's just a pawn. The only beneficiary of this is the instigator of the illegal appropriation."

"The messenger?"

"Going back to the beginning, you'll find the whereabouts of the money very strange. It didn't facilitate his escape. I believe the man who wanted to kill him was an influential person. He bribed the target, transferred the funds, and then pretended to assist his escape. After receiving the money owed to him, he finally decided to silence him." He clenched his right wrist, stroking the bones from bottom to top. The bones cracked twice, and he pinched his thumb to relax his tense nerves. "Xiang Mingqi, report to the company immediately. Our insider is acting strangely."

"Oh, oh, okay. Is that all I need to say after the call is connected?" The junior took out his phone, unlocked it, and entered the number. The dial tone before the call was connected came from the receiver.

"Just as I said: the insider may want to use the Bangkok hotel or a third party to erase the stain and pocket the debt." After the call was connected, Xiang Mingqi conveyed his predecessor's inference word for word.

When it came to the question-and-answer session, seeing that he didn't know the answer to any of the questions, Pei Huai immediately plugged in his headphones, adjusted the microphone wheel, and answered the other party's questions one by one.

After explaining the specific matters clearly, the phone was hung up, and Pei Huai also felt a small raised lump at the bottom of the briefcase.

The blade sprang up, cutting through the leather cleanly. He pulled out a tiny device and threw it onto the road.

"Tracking device." Without even looking at it, he threw the tattered briefcase into Xiang Mingqi's arms. "There's money and documents inside. Take them away."

"Is that all right? Wow, there's even a tracking device. I've only seen this kind of thing in movies before. So cool."

...A glint of his gaze silently retreated. Pei Huai didn't want to talk to him, not even a word.

"Why are you looking away so disgustedly? Oh yes, brother, I have a question to ask." He pursed his lips first, and then fell into a frown of distressed thought, "--that is, um, um, when the patrolman came before. Why did you kiss me?"

"Diverting attention." So annoying. Pei Huai felt like he was losing his patience in this endless Q&A session. "Is it hard to understand?"

"But—you kissed me. You just kissed me, didn't you? I felt your tongue come in and sweep around, and then it was sucked. When it was almost over, you bit my lips. Why did you use your teeth when kissing? Are you bullying me? Really? Really?"

Pei Huai didn't want to hear these detailed descriptions, and turned back to look at him, unable to bear it any longer: "So?"

"Yeah, I just had a little doubt." He refused to look up and checked his index finger to his pinky finger in turn. "Brother, did you ask me a question before? I actually didn't have time to hear it clearly."

"——I'm asking you, is this your first kiss?"

As soon as the question came out, Xiang Mingqi suddenly closed his eyes as if resigned to his fate, his eyelashes trembling slightly. His hands, which had been finger-pointing a moment ago, were put behind his back and twisted non-stop.

He opened his eyes, and his pupils looked upwards as if they were afraid of light, then to the right, and when he turned downwards, he never dared to glance at his senior, so he could only wander around guiltily.

"It's my first kiss. I've never done anything an adult should do. I've never been in love or anything like that. Wow!" He bent down, covering his face with his hands, screaming in panic and shame between his fingers, "What should I do? You won't laugh at me if I tell you, right? No, no, this means I studied hard in school and participated in club activities seriously. I just didn't have time to become an adult!"

He stammered, trying to defend himself, his ears flushed with anxiety, and stamped his feet, trying to redeem himself from that wrong kiss. However, he didn't notice that Pei Huai raised his eyebrows, frowning in a crease that symbolized deep thought.

...Trouble, he thought.

This guy seems to be a virgin.
