Chapter 16 Xue Huai'an, You Should Know Yourself

"Smack!"

The soft, flexible whip lashed the ground hard, the loud sound startling both Xue Huai'an and Xue Qi.

The whip seemed to strike their hearts, instilling a sudden, inexplicable fear.

Looking at Qin Su again, her alluring face was like a venomous snake, lurking in the shadows, staring at Xue Huai'an as if she were her prey, waiting for the perfect moment to pounce, bite her neck, and kill her in one blow.

Xue Huai'an's heart skipped a beat, and he suddenly felt that he shouldn't have let his mother leave.

Suddenly, a long, soft whip lashed out at his bed with incredible speed, almost tearing everything apart.

Xue Qi, being close by, immediately stepped in front of Xue Huai'an, using his longsword to parry—

His face was deathly pale, and blood welled up in his throat, flowing down the corner of his mouth.

This shows that Qin Su showed no mercy whatsoever; if the whip had struck Xue Huai'an, it might have truly killed him at that moment.

Xue Huai'an felt a chill run down his spine, and a thought suddenly popped into his mind—she really wouldn't turn back.

"Do I need to reveal who drugged me at the Spring River Banquet?"

Qin Su's words made Xue Huai'an's heart skip a beat, and he almost blurted out what was on his mind.

How could she know?

"Even if it wasn't you that day, so what? Do you think I care about that little bit of chastity?"

"Xue Huai'an, what you should do most right now is to recognize yourself. When I care about you, even if you are a peddler, a beggar, or an ant, you are still the bright moon in the sky; if I don't care about you, even if you are royalty, you are still as insignificant as grass."

Xue Huai'an's heart pounded. He stared intently at Qin Su. "Aren't you afraid I'll make a big fuss about it? Even if a woman's chastity isn't valued as much these days, it will definitely affect your remarriage."

"Do you think Kyoto is just another place? If you want to marry into a higher social class, you must be impeccable in every way."

He was telling the truth. Qin Su's family background was criticized by the high-ranking families in Kyoto, but her flamboyant personality was also a problem.

No one would accept a matriarch like that.

Qin Su walked over and looked down at him, "Go ahead and do it. I want to see what your little tricks can do to me."

Both Xue Huai'an and Qin Su knew that he wouldn't go.

"Qin Su, besides me, who else do you think would want you? Rather than marrying someone else, choose me."

Is Xue Huai'an planning to appeal to his emotions and reason with him now?

"Let bygones be bygones. I can assure you that I will not take any concubines in the future. There will be no one else but you." He spoke very sincerely, his eyes shining brightly.

Qin Su bent down slightly and brought her red lips close to his ear.

The intensely aromatic and aggressive scent filled Xue Huai'an's nostrils, causing him to momentarily lose his senses.

This is different from Chen Yirou's style, a different kind of charm.

Xue Huai'an's breath hitched slightly as he heard Qin Su's seductive voice in his ear—"Your guarantee is ***."

Xue Huai'an immediately frowned.

vulgar!

It's utterly vulgar.

How could he compare her to Rou'er? She's not even worthy to carry Rou'er's shoes!

Qin Su straightened up and said to Xue Huai'an, "Come and let me know when you're really about to die. I don't want to come back empty-handed again."

"Let's go."

Seeing her swagger away, Xue Huai'an's eyes hardened. "Do you think the Duke of Cheng's mansion is a place you can come and go as you please?"

A large number of guards who had been lying in ambush surrounded Qin Su.

Xue Huai'an was no ordinary scion of a high-ranking family. From a young age, he knew what he wanted and what he should do. Therefore, he made good use of the last remaining value of the Duke of Cheng's mansion to cultivate a considerable amount of power that belonged to him.

There weren't many of them, but each one of them was a master at taking on ten opponents.

"Don't do it, young lady, let me handle it." Lian Tao protected Qin Su, showing no fear despite being unarmed.

Xue Huai'an was helped up by Xue Qi. He said, "I know you are good at martial arts, but even the strongest fists can't fight against many hands. If you agree to come back now, I can make them not make a move."

Qin Su scoffed, "A mob."

At Xue Huai'an's command, all the guards rushed forward.

Lian Tao wasn't particular about anything, but the techniques her master taught her were enough to allow her to unleash her full potential.

She grabbed the dagger that had been slashed at her, twisted it into a pretzel with her bare hands, and then threw it on the ground, turning it into scrap metal.

A punch to the man's chest would be enough to make him cough up blood and collapse to the ground.

She was brave and fearless, and her actions were bold and decisive, showing the demeanor of a female general.

As more and more guards fell to the ground, the remaining guards grew fearful, their gazes toward Lian Tao filled with dread.

Even a skilled fighter who can take on ten opponents cannot withstand a few slaps from Lian Tao.

She could slap a burly man so hard he'd be spinning around in circles.

"Attack together!"

They stopped dealing with Lian Tao, intending to distract her from capturing Qin Su. Now they believed that as long as they could take down this woman with natural strength, Qin Su would be insignificant.

Seeing that dozens of guards had briefly restrained Qin Su, the others seized the opportunity to attack him.

Qin Su drew the soft whip from her waist, and the whip, like a nimble giant python, lashed out and struck the guard hard.

Through training in two lifetimes, her martial arts skills had become incredibly refined.

Let alone a few guards, even if Yu Shuo stood in front of her, he might not be her match.

In the short time it takes for an incense stick to burn, all the guards collapsed to the ground.

Qin Su slapped the ground, her cold eyes fixed on Xue Huai'an.

Xue Huai'an felt uneasy under her gaze.

"There aren't that many people, enough to keep me here. Xue Huai'an, you've never really understood me."

Lian Tao held her hand, looking her up and down with great concern. "Are you alright, young lady?" Then, she leaned closer and whispered, "Has the pregnancy been threatened?"

Qin Su remained silent.

It's not that exaggerated.

Xue Huai'an gritted his teeth, his brain racing, trying to figure out where he could threaten her.

Now he can only watch her leave.

"Young master, could you spare some silver to treat my injuries?" Xue Qi clutched his chest, feeling very uncomfortable.

Xue Huai'an remained silent for a long time, then asked, "You don't have any money?"

Xue Qi said in a mournful tone, "You haven't paid your subordinates' salaries for two months."

Where does he get the money? The last time the young master asked him for a favor, he took all his savings.

"Go to the accounting office."

The Duke of Cheng's mansion is desperately short of money, especially since Xue Huai'an wants to accomplish something big and needs money everywhere. If Qin Su were here, there would be no need to worry about this at all.

Now that the wedding has turned out like this, and half of the betrothal gifts have been given away, he is almost strapped for cash.

Qin Su must come back!

Qin Su's most direct help to Xue Huai'an was her money bag.

...

Qin Su made her way around and brought back two steamers of xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) for her parents and the children who were coming to visit today.

As soon as I got back home, I saw the two of them, one big and one small, looking worried and distressed.

The older one was Qin Su's mother, a beautiful woman who could be described as having gone to the battlefield; the other was not yet ten years old, still studying in school, her little face with red lips and white teeth almost scrunched up.

"What happened?" She only went out for a short while and came back like this?

"Girl, I heard from my classmate that the Marquis is going to deliver disaster relief grain." The child ran over, her face full of worry.

Qin Su's expression changed; she had always felt like she had forgotten something, and now she finally remembered.
