Suddenly, her eyes lit up, and she said with a smile, "I'm afraid that won't work."
"The matter we discussed last night is of great importance, and there are too many arrangements to make. I don't think we'll have time for it right now. The Empress Dowager should be able to find someone else to play cards with, so she won't miss me."
"Please help me, Granny Qin~" Qin Su winked at the gentle woman in front of her, acting coquettishly, her eyes and face full of expectation.
She believed that no one could resist such coquettishness.
Granny Qin smiled helplessly, "Don't you young people all like to stay up late? Why can't you stay up now?"
Qin Su wondered if she was mistaken, but it seemed that Granny Qin had just glanced at her abdomen. However, upon closer inspection, she found nothing unusual.
"Alright, you can go about your business now. I will discuss this with the Empress Dowager. However, the Empress Dowager likes you very much, so you are welcome to visit her often if you have time."
Qin Su could only agree, but in reality, she could not enter the palace without being summoned. She only pretended that Qin Mama was just being polite.
After leaving the palace, she went straight to the guard camp. Before she could even throw out the tiger tally, she was surrounded by a group of burly men and rushed inside.
"Why did you suddenly come to the military camp, little girl? Did you miss your uncles?" The man speaking wiped the sweat from his face as he put on his clothes. He had bronze skin, solid muscles, and was exceptionally imposing; he looked like a small mountain just standing there.
"Hey, Su girl's all grown up. Be a little more careful. This is the capital. It's not good if others hear this." Another burly man patted him and warned him with a laugh.
Qin Su didn't dislike these people; they were all family members who had watched her grow up.
"Uncle Zhang, Uncle Li, I have important business at the military camp. Who is in charge of guarding the army now?"
To avoid suspicion, the Qin family hadn't inquired about the Imperial Guard for a long time and didn't really know much about it.
“He’s a good-for-nothing, ignore him. If you need anything, go find that kid from the Chang family. He’s got some skills, and he’s already accomplished a lot at such a young age.”
Qin Su recalled that the person he was talking about seemed to be a boy who used to go fishing in the river with his bare bottom down. He was two years older than her and was very mischievous when he was a child.
They fight every day, but neither of them holds a grudge.
It's all from my childhood; I can't go back.
It's always better to have someone you know than someone sent by the emperor.
They escorted Qin Sulai to the commander, a man in his thirties who seemed difficult to get along with. He had sharp eyes and was very displeased when he saw Qin Sulai.
"This is a military camp, what are you doing here as a woman? What kind of behavior is this?" he scolded in a harsh tone.
His words immediately displeased some people. They could usually obey orders from above, but who was Qin Su? She was the daughter they had watched grow up, the precious daughter of their White Tiger Village.
"Commander Jin! What do you mean by that? Are you looking down on women? Two hundred years ago, there was the famous female general Zhao Liangying. What's wrong with women?"
"Exactly, that's not right. Weren't you born of a woman? Your mouth stinks the moment you open it!"
Commander Jin's face was extremely pale. Pointing at the main gate, he said, "How can she compare to Zhao Liangying? Who do you think she is? All she does is fight with other women over men. What is she doing in the military camp? What important business could she possibly have? And all of you, get out!"
The two burly men stood with their hands on their hips, refusing to listen and determined to stand on either side of Qin Su.
"Do you know the truth? If you don't, what nonsense are you spouting? Our Su girl is not that kind of person."
"I'm not leaving! You just want to bully our daughter."
"Disobeying military orders? I think you want to be flogged!" Commander Jin roared. "Men, drag them out and give them twenty lashes!"
Qin Su hurriedly said, "Wait, why is Commander Jin angry? My two uncles are just trying to protect me." She then turned to the two burly men and said, "You two go out first, he won't dare to do anything to me."
At Qin Su's repeated insistence, the two had no choice but to leave, but they kept turning back to look at Commander Jin with a warning in their eyes.
Commander Jin looked down on these delicate noble ladies in the capital, seeing them as parasitic and clinging to the vines. In his opinion, Qin Su was even better.
Not only is she a dodder, but she's a dodder that bites; the opinions about her in the capital are truly unbearable.
"Speak, what do you want from me?"
A commotion arose outside, and soon a young man walked in, saying, "Sorry I'm late."
Qin Su turned her head and looked, probably knowing that the person who came was the Chang family boy that her uncles had been talking about, the one who used to slack off with his bare bottom on the fish.
She paused for a moment upon seeing the person who approached. The person was wearing silver-white armor, and while not particularly muscular, they were certainly not thin either. As for their appearance... it was somewhat different from the mischievous monkey she remembered.
"Qin Su?" He seemed to recognize his childhood friend at a glance, and greeted her with a smile. She really did look like a child.
"A regular month?"
The visitor nodded and walked up to Qin Su, looking her up and down. "It's been four or five years since we last met, hasn't it? You've grown into a beautiful young woman."
Qin Su coughed twice. "Same here. I happen to have something important to discuss today. Shall we sit down and talk?"
Regularly, he sat in the deputy position and personally poured tea for Qin Su.
"The conditions in the barracks aren't good, please bear with us." He pushed the tea over.
Commander Jin scoffed, "If you don't like the taste, go back. The military camp can't afford to keep any delicate flowers."
Regular Yue always maintained a refined and scholarly demeanor, but upon hearing Commander Jin's words, he curled the corners of his lips and said to Qin Su, "Don't mind him; he's just a dog who can't say anything nice."
Qin Su raised an eyebrow, "Your chest is a bit of a monster now?"
"Alright, let's get down to business." Qin Su glanced at the obviously displeased Commander Jin, then took something out of her pocket and slammed it on the table.
Commander Jin immediately frowned and looked over. When he saw what it was, his expression changed drastically, and he became serious and cold. "Where did you get the tiger tally from?"
Qin Su replied, "Of course it was given by His Majesty. The Tiger Tally of the Imperial Guard has always been kept by His Majesty. Where else would I get it if His Majesty didn't give it to me?"
Commander Jin knew perfectly well that no matter how capable Qin Su was, she couldn't possibly obtain the Tiger Tally, and besides, she was just a woman who was all bark and no bite.
"Tell me, what is it?"
"I need to rearrange the security measures for the Empress Dowager's birthday banquet in four days."
Commander Kim said firmly, "This is not under the jurisdiction of the Imperial Guard."
Although this army was called the Imperial Guard, it was not actually responsible for protecting the safety of the imperial city. Emperor Mingyang never trusted the Imperial Guard enough, otherwise he would not have sent a few individuals to control the army.
Qin Su shook the military tally in his hand and said, "The tiger tally is in my hands, so I'm in charge."
Lu Yue nodded. "That makes sense. Since His Majesty has entrusted you with the Tiger Tally, it means he has full authority over it."
He was on Qin Su's side. It could be said that everyone in the Guardian Army, except for those who were planted later, was on Qin Su's side.
