Chapter 6 The Fiery Hand

He strode over and quickly stopped at a relatively suitable distance.

His clear, bright eyes subtly surveyed her, and seeing her shake her head slightly, he nodded.

"Why is Your Highness here?" She had just opened her mouth when she seemed to remember something and immediately explained, "If it's inconvenient, Your Highness, please pretend I didn't ask."

Prince Chen shook his head slightly, "It just so happens that I am investigating something with the Prefect of the Capital."

Qin Su blinked. So it was a chance encounter?

Prince Chen turned to the Prefect of the Capital and said, "Since it is someone who deliberately spreads rumors and slanders, then deal with them according to the laws of Da'an."

"Yes, I will handle it."

“We’re telling the truth! She has committed acts of violence against her husband and almost killed her mother-in-law! How can this be considered slander?” Someone struggled in Lian Tao’s hands, their voice very loud.

"Everyone knows that the eldest son of the Duke's mansion is gentle and refined, a noble young master praised by all. How could he possibly have an improper relationship with other women before his marriage? In my opinion, Qin Su is the one who falsely accused him!"

"Perhaps she was having an affair with some man, and Young Master Xue caught them in the act, which is why he killed her!"

"Fortunately, Young Master Xue was blessed with good fortune, otherwise he would have lost his life."

He finished speaking in one breath, but he spoke louder and louder as he spoke, as if he wanted more people to hear him.

"It seems someone is pulling the strings behind the scenes," Qin Su said meaningfully.

The Prefect of the Capital frowned. In his heart, he did not want to delve into this matter. The Duke's Mansion had declined in recent years, but no matter how declined it was, it was still a man he could not afford to offend.

Furthermore, there was the Marquis of Loyalty and Righteousness, who was at the height of his power.

He dared not offend anyone.

“Miss Qin, perhaps you are not as complicated as you think. Everyone is different, and with hundreds of thousands of people in the capital, it is inevitable that there will be different opinions.”

Just as Prince Chen was about to speak, Qin Su walked over, her thin, soft red sleeve brushing against the back of his hand.

He clenched his fist slightly, his expression remaining unchanged.

"In my opinion, there are many suspicious points in this matter. Can't you see them, sir?" She didn't say it so obviously, but her bright eyes seemed to contain a threat.

Seeing that Prince Chen didn't say anything, the Prefect of the Capital guessed that Prince Chen didn't want to get too involved in the matter, and felt a little relieved. "I don't think there's anything suspicious. I will punish them severely according to the law for 'defamation'."

Qin Su, however, was not about to let the matter drop so easily. “With His Highness Prince Chen here, and the Prefect of the Capital also present, ordinary people would certainly not dare to speak loudly. But they are quite the opposite. Is it because they have the backing? Or have they received benefits from others?”

"If Your Excellency is unwilling to investigate, then my Marquis of Loyalty and Righteousness is willing to investigate. However, the results of the investigation are different from Your Excellency's judgment..." Before she could finish speaking, the Prefect of the Capital knew what she meant.

He gritted his teeth inwardly.

It's really strange. He had never heard of this young lady from the Marquis of Zhongyi's mansion being so eloquent before. He had clearly heard that this person was a good-for-nothing.

Why is there such a big difference between the rumors and reality?

He wanted to settle things as soon as possible and didn't want to get involved in the affairs of either family.

“Miss Qin, there is clearly nothing suspicious about this. They are just ordinary people and dare not offend the Marquis of Zhongyi’s mansion.” He was also threatening Qin Su in return.

Qin Su's eyes instantly became extremely sharp, and her temper, as explosive as gunpowder, seemed ready to explode at that moment.

She had this kind of personality in her past life, and she suffered a lot because of it.

Chen Yirou once mocked her like this: "Martial arts are the most useless thing in the capital."

She clenched her fists, suppressing the urge to lose her temper.

Deep down, she wanted to pull out her whip and teach the Prefect of the Capital a lesson.

Suddenly, her hand was grasped; through the gold-embroidered fabric, the hand was broad and warm.

Qin Su's anger was suddenly suppressed and replaced by astonishment.

“If the results of the investigation by the Marquis of Zhongyi’s mansion are different from those of the Prefect of the Capital, and are true, then the Prefect of the Capital should be replaced.” His cold eyes looked at the Prefect of the Capital, his wide sleeves covering his hand holding hers, unseen by anyone except Lian Tao, who was already standing close by.

The Prefect of the Capital was immediately filled with fear and unease, and, wanting to be a coward, he stretched out his neck.

"Yes, I understand. I will handle it. Then I will trouble Miss Qin and this lady to come to the yamen together."

Why is Prince Chen suddenly speaking up for the Qin family's daughter? Or is he simply helping the Marquis of Zhongyi's family?

He was still speculating about the meaning behind Prince Chen's actions when the other party spoke again, "If the Prefect of the Capital doesn't know how to speak, he can submit a memorial to His Majesty and take a leave of absence to learn how to speak properly."

The Prefect of the Capital was shocked. He bowed awkwardly and said with a dry mouth, "Yes, I understand. I spoke without thinking."

Qin Su had intended to visit someone at the school, but she never expected to encounter such a situation. However, it didn't matter; she could simply send someone to deliver a message.

"Has Your Highness and the Prefect of the Capital not finished dealing with the matter yet?" She took two steps back and asked the Prince Chen, who had not left her side, in a low voice.

Seeing her so cautious, Prince Chen's narrow phoenix eyes flickered with a barely perceptible smile. "It's all taken care of."

Then why did you go with her? To help her?

Thinking back to how this person had taken good care of her in her past life, she couldn't help but make this guess.

"I will handle this matter. Your Highness, please rest assured. If you have urgent business to attend to, please go ahead and deal with it."

He was still looking at her, with such focused eyes that one couldn't help but want to hold onto that focused gaze.

Qin Su awkwardly averted her gaze, suppressing the sudden surge of disrespectful thoughts.

How do you know I went there for your sake?

Qin Su: "..."

She felt embarrassed, but not particularly ashamed.

Perhaps this person had always held great goodwill towards her in the past.

"Because His Highness is a good person." She found an excuse that couldn't be wrong.

After a long silence, Prince Chen replied, "Yes, I am a good person."
