Li Shiyue's departure has attracted much attention; at least Xie Mingyue's and Zhou Yiran's groups have had people watching Li Shiyue closely.
Through the lifted carriage curtain, Xie Mingyue saw the rumps of three horses galloping away.
On Zhou Yiran's side, it was his attendant who knocked on the car door to inform him of this.
After a moment's hesitation, Zhou Yiran said to the attendant sitting on the carriage shaft, "Go ask Captain Wang what Lieutenant Li went off to do after leaving the group?"
Upon hearing this, the attendant quickly had another attendant jump off the carriage, mount a horse, and head towards Wang Datou's direction.
A short while later, the attendant returned and told Zhou Yiran, "Master, Captain Wang is telling me that Lieutenant Li said she feels something is wrong and is going ahead to chase after the scouts to check it out."
Zhou Yiran quite agreed with Li Shiyue's combat prowess.
After all, Zhou Yiran had witnessed Li Shiyue defeat the Eighth Prince single-handedly during the trade fair.
So Zhou Yiran said to the attendant sitting on the carriage outside through the curtain, "Keep an eye on him. If Lieutenant Li returns, let me know!"
"Yes, Master!"
As for Wang Datou, although he did not let his guard down along the way, he slept very well last night because the Li sisters, Shiyue and Qiutian, kept watch over him.
At this moment, he looked ahead a few times while riding his horse, but he didn't realize what Li Shiyue meant by "something is wrong".
Li Shiyue, who was being watched by all sides, spurred his horse forward and rode for about half an hour before catching up with the group of scouts he had sent out earlier.
In fact, for their team of one hundred people, sending out five or six people to scout ahead would have been enough.
However, Li Shiyue still insisted on sending out a group of ten people to scout ahead.
Once they caught up with the scouts, Li Shiyue pulled her horse to a stop, and Li Qiutian and Shitou followed suit, stopping their horses as well.
As for why Li Shiyue knew that there were scouts they had sent out here.
That brings us to the reward after the system restart, the "Rejuvenation Pill".
Li Shiyue already possessed extraordinary senses, but after consuming the "Rejuvenation Pill," she reached an even higher level—able to see in all directions and hear from all sides!
She heard the heartbeats of humans here, besides herself, Li Qiutian, and Shi Tou!
The commotion caused by Li Shiyue and his two companions riding horses was considerable, and the vastness of the grassland made the noise even more noticeable.
Those chosen as scouts have incredibly sharp eyes and ears. Sure enough, when Li Shiyue and his group were still some distance away from the scouts, some of them had already heard the sound of horses' hooves and hid in the waist-high grass.
Li Shiyue dismounted and shouted towards the southeast, "Come out!"
And so, to the surprise of Shi Tou and Li Qiutian, two people suddenly emerged from the haystack in the southeast direction.
The two men walked up to Li Shiyue, bowed to her, and greeted her together with "Captain".
Li Shiyue didn't care about the two's hidden intentions, and only asked them solemnly, "Did you notice anything amiss along the way?"
After exchanging a glance, Chen Yong spoke to Li Shiyue: "Reporting to the Captain, we have not found anything unusual."
After hearing Chen Yong's answer, Li Shiyue could tell from his tone that he wasn't lying; they genuinely hadn't noticed anything unusual.
Li Shiyue nodded and said to Chen Yong, "Continue scouting. Tell the brothers to stop after scouting another ten miles!"
"yes!"
After watching Li Shiyue and the others mount their horses and leave into the distance, Chen Yong and Sun Xiaoliu finally dared to start whispering among themselves.
"Hey, what does this Lieutenant Li mean?"
"Didn't the boss tell us to scout ahead twenty miles?"
Chen Yong walked into the haystack; their horses were still hidden inside.
Without turning his head, Chen Yong walked forward and said, "Alright, the rank of a captain is higher than that of a squad leader. Just listen to your superior."
Therefore, with more than an hour left before dark, the convoy simply stopped and refused to move.
We should have been able to walk for another hour, and if we had hurried forward, we could have covered about five or six more miles.
However, Li Shiyue called a halt, and even though Wang Datou and Gao Jin found it strange, they still obeyed her.
What they were thinking was: "Anyway, it doesn't really matter whether we arrive in Turkic territory a day earlier or a day later."
"It means less walking, slower walking, and more rest."
As for Zhou Yiran, he didn't object at all. He was a civil official and had been traveling by carriage the whole way.
Li Shiyue called Wang Datou again, asking him to ride with him to patrol the surrounding area.
The people in the caravan were more experienced in setting up camp this time. Some pulled the horse-drawn carts, some started the fire, and some boiled water. Everything proceeded in an orderly manner.
As the last ray of light was swallowed by the night, Li Shiyue and Wang Datou finally rode back.
When they returned, it wasn't just Li Shiyue who had a furrowed brow; even Wang Datou, whose face was usually always smiling, now had a somewhat droopy expression.
"Wolves!"
Wang Datou said this to Gao Jin, who was looking at him.
There was no soup for dinner tonight; each person was given three dry biscuits and a palm-sized piece of dried rabbit meat brought from Lijiatun.
After dinner, Li Shiyue called Wang Datou, Gao Jin, Zhou Yiran, and Xie Mingyue over to discuss matters.
After the group arrived, Li Shiyue immediately told them to sit down around the fire. Without exchanging pleasantries, she addressed them directly.
"The wolf pack didn't attack last night, but they will definitely come tonight!"
"A pack of wolves!"
Li Shiyue glanced at the person who had made the surprised sound. It was the servant standing behind Zhou Yiran. The servant was startled by Li Shiyue's glance and quickly lowered his head.
Li Shiyue was somewhat surprised that Xie Mingyue didn't make any noise.
“Yesterday, when Da Tou and I were patrolling near that campsite, we found some wolf droppings in certain places.”
At the time, I estimated that there were about a dozen wolves in the pack, which was not difficult to deal with compared to our group of about a hundred people.
But I wonder why the wolf pack didn't attack us last night?
Perhaps they felt their alpha wolf wouldn't dare attack because of our numbers, or perhaps they've found enough food elsewhere.
Looking at the roaring campfire, Li Shiyue continued, "But this morning we traveled for most of the day, and along the way I felt that something was not quite right."
If you knew me, you would know that when I was young, I fled famine with my clan from Henan. I'm not bragging, but I have a natural premonition of danger.
Li Shiyue's words sounded mystical, but Wang Datou and Gao Jin, who had both been on the battlefield, believed them wholeheartedly!
Zhou Yiran didn't know whether he believed Li Shiyue's words or pretended to believe them, but in any case, he looked up at Li Shiyue and asked, "Lieutenant Li, please speak frankly."
