He Man paused for a moment, then laughed and said, "Kids are all disobedient, always poking around. It's not like they did it on purpose, so don't take it to heart. Just make another one."
Hearing this, Xiao Liu felt even more aggrieved.
She pointed to the clock on the wall, "Sister He, the director told me to finish organizing this document and hand it in before 12 o'clock. Look at the time, how am I supposed to reorganize it now!"
Seeing that she couldn't get away with it, He Man pretended to be angry and immediately turned to her son, Tang Ming, and scolded him sternly: "Didn't I tell you to listen to your aunt? Look at the trouble you've caused me! Hurry up and apologize to me and admit your mistake!"
She thought that if her son apologized, the matter would be over. But she hadn't anticipated that Tang Ming wouldn't cooperate with her at all.
Tang Ming's little mouth was pouting so high it could hang a soy sauce bottle on it.
"I didn't do anything wrong! Who told you to break your promise and not take me to the aquarium! I hate you so much!"
Tang Ming grabbed a glass of water from the table next to him and, amidst gasps of surprise, splashed it directly onto Xiao Liu's computer keyboard.
He raised his smug little face and said to Xiao Liu, "I told you not to complain again, I told you not to provoke me again!"
Hearing this blatant provocation, Xiao Liu's face turned pale. She suppressed her urge to beat Tang Ming, turned to stare intently at He Man, and demanded an explanation.
He Man was stunned. When she came to her senses, she immediately roared at Tang Ming, "Tang Ming!"
But after calling out just one name, Tang Ming shoved He Man aside and ran out in a flash.
He Man was embarrassed to be humiliated by her own son in front of so many people.
She could only bite the bullet and say to Xiao Liu, "Xiao Liu, you're an adult, don't take it to heart by arguing with a child. He didn't do it on purpose. I'll apologize to you on his behalf, okay?"
Xiao Liu was initially just feeling wronged, but then she saw that Tang Ming had made a mistake but showed no remorse whatsoever. And when she heard He Man's words, it seemed like she was just going through the motions. She immediately became furious.
"Sister He, wasn't this done on purpose?"
She took a deep breath and said, "Let's make things clear. I helped you take care of your child because of our past working relationship. I only stepped in to help you with this mess when I was so busy. Now look what's happened! I helped you out, but I didn't even get a thank you. Instead, I got a scolding from the director, and the documents are gone. How unfair is that!"
Every accusation Xiao Liu made made He Man lose face.
Her public search for herself only made her colleagues in the office more aware of her failure as a teacher.
Thinking about it this way, He Man became a little irritated.
"Xiao Liu, what's the point of you rambling on like this? Instead of wasting your time, why don't you hurry up and get your documents done!"
Xiao Liu didn't expect her to talk back and lecture him like a senior, which made her even angrier.
"Sister He, isn't that a bit too unfair of you? I've already been scolded, and the documents are gone. Can't I even say a few words to you now?"
He Man hurriedly explained, "I didn't say it was impossible. Even if the child is wrong, he's still just a child. You're a grown adult, why are you arguing with a child? It's not worth it! It makes you seem petty and makes you a laughingstock! I was just reminding you not to worry about these things and to focus on the paperwork. Was I wrong?"
Xiao Liu was utterly dumbfounded by these self-righteous remarks.
She was so angry she couldn't speak, she could only nod.
"Fine, I understand now. It's all my fault. I shouldn't have bothered with your mess. I'm going to go and explain to the director that the child isn't mine. Let him scold me, let him punish me, I'll accept it!"
He Man panicked as soon as she heard this and stepped forward to stop her.
"Xiao Liu, what are you doing! You really want me to leave, aren't you? After all these years of working together, how could you do this? What good will it do you to get rid of me?"
Xiao Liu also got angry and blurted out, "I can only feel at ease when you leave, and then I'll feel better."
He Man immediately flew into a rage, "You ungrateful wretch! Have you forgotten who was in charge of training you when you first joined the company? You heartless ingrate! Throwing a tantrum at a child, how dare you!"
Xiao Liu was no match for her sharp tongue, and when she heard Xiao Liu turn around and scold her, she was furious, but couldn't find a suitable word to refute her.
The argument between the two attracted the attention of the director.
The director stormed out of his office, letting out a roar that completely silenced the entire room.
What are you all doing?!
The director turned to look at Xiao Liu, whose face was flushed with anger, and said irritably, "Xiao Liu, it's you again! Are you always looking for trouble? I haven't even had a chance to punish you for bringing your child to the company, and now you're causing me trouble again! Have all the documents been prepared?"
Xiao Liu felt incredibly wronged; her lips moved as if she wanted to say everything.
Before he could even open his mouth, He Man interrupted loudly, "Xiao Liu, the director is right. If you make a mistake at work, just correct it. Why throw such a tantrum!"
She turned to the director with a forced smile: "Director, she got angry because the power went out and she's acting like this. She's just being childish. Could you give her a little more time?"
The director snorted angrily, looking at Xiao Liu with a disdainful expression.
"I'm reminding you one more time, this is an office, not your home! Put away all your princess-like temper, or pack your things and get out!"
After the director finished scolding, he turned and left, not giving Xiao Liu a chance to speak again.
Xiao Liu's eyes immediately reddened, and all her grievances turned into tears, swirling in her eyes.
Fearing that Xiao Liu would cause more trouble and that the director would find out that the child was hers, He Man quickly changed her tune and turned to act as a good person to persuade Xiao Liu.
"Xiao Liu, alright, your older sister was just angry and said the wrong thing. I apologize, let's both back down and let's let this go, okay?"
She tried to persuade him with kind words, but Xiao Liu didn't appreciate it at all.
Xiao Liu felt that she had suffered such a great injustice that she couldn't be appeased with just a few words, and she also had a new opinion of He Man.
She didn't even glance at He Man, turned her head, wiped away her tears, and rushed out of the office.
When He Man saw that she was just leaving the office instead of going to find the director, she immediately felt relieved and stopped chasing after her.
"These young girls have quite the temper; they'll get what's coming to them sooner or later!"
She muttered something and sat back down in her seat.
Su Yan watched as several colleagues in the office chased after her out of concern. She stretched, adjusted her position, and considered the whole show over.
She glanced in He Man's direction, picked up the empty coffee cup on the table, and slowly walked out.
Before I even reached the tea room, I could hear sobbing coming from inside.
