He Yao hid for most of the day in a state of anxiety.
During lunch break, seeing that everyone had gone to eat, he hid in the fire escape and waited until almost everyone was back before sneaking into the cafeteria to eat what was left.
He thought that this would be enough to avoid Wu Feifei, but he didn't expect that he would run into Su Yan right after he got the food.
It was as if Su Yan had been waiting for him here on purpose. Usually, you couldn't even see a shadow of her, but she arrived at just the right time.
What He Yao feared most was exactly what happened to him.
Just as he was about to make a shushing gesture, Su Yan called out loudly, "He Yao, you're here to eat too!"
Her shout caught the attention of not only the people eating, but even the auntie serving food behind the glass glanced at her.
After He Yao received attention, he became like a rat crossing the street, panicked, and almost ran away with his head in his hands.
Hearing the increasingly noisy chatter behind her, Su Yan slightly curled the corners of her lips, put down her plate, and left as if nothing had happened.
Her departure terrified Wu Feifei, who was standing behind He Yao in a rage, so much so that she didn't dare to say another word to Su Yan.
"He Yao! You really have the nerve to show your face here!"
Wu Feifei threw down the plate of food and strode over with a mocking smile.
He Yao glanced around in a panic, then carefully tugged at Wu Feifei's sleeve and whispered, "Feifei, please don't make a scene here, okay? We can explain the misunderstanding between us."
Wu Feifei flicked her sleeve in disgust, "What's there to explain, He Yao!"
Seeing everyone's puzzled looks, He Yao's face turned bright red, and he kept pulling Wu Feifei to walk out.
"Feifei, come out here, I have something to say to you."
Wu Feifei, however, remained as steady as a mountain.
"You want to say it, right? Then say it here and let everyone judge for me."
Hearing Wu Feifei say this, the onlookers could probably tell that there was something fishy going on between the two.
Otherwise, why would two people who are completely unrelated suddenly start causing trouble?
He Yao became even more anxious. "Feifei, stop being unreasonable, okay? I... I won't break up with you, alright?"
Upon hearing this, Wu Feifei's anger flared up, and she wanted to hurl insults at him, but seeing his timid and cowardly appearance, she couldn't help but laugh in exasperation.
"He Yao, why don't you take a piss and look at yourself in the mirror? What kind of person are you? You say you won't break up with me? That's ridiculous! Let me tell you, it's because I've had my fill of you!"
These words immediately caused a huge uproar.
Amidst the growing murmurs, He Yao's face turned completely red.
"Stop talking, stop talking, I was wrong, I was wrong, please give me some face, okay?"
He gripped Wu Feifei's sleeve tightly and pleaded in a low voice.
Her voice sounded like she was about to cry.
When Wu Feifei saw his pitiful appearance, she felt inexplicably wronged.
She spent money, effort, and emotions, and in the end, how did he become the victim?!
"He Yao! Don't give me that pitiful, innocent act! That's not what you told me! You told me your dad was the owner of a listed company, that you were a rich second-generation, and that you were out experiencing life. But what happened?"
"From head to toe, everything about you—your food, drink, housing, transportation, even your current job at the company—was introduced to you by someone I found! I've been completely open and honest with you, and how have you treated me? Have you been treating me like an ATM?"
Along with these words of grief and indignation, the onlookers' condemnations turned towards He Yao.
"What a scumbag! He's a complete scumbag!"
"How come I never realized he was like this? I thought he was quite honest. You can never judge a book by its cover!"
Amidst the repeated condemnations, He Yao finally couldn't stand it any longer and turned to run away.
He had just run out of the restaurant when he bumped into Su Yan.
He Yao was stunned, frozen in place, unable to utter a word.
"Yan..."
Su Yan gave a self-deprecating laugh, looking at him with hurt in her eyes. "So, everything you told me was a lie. He Yao, you've truly betrayed my trust. I never want to see you again!"
When He Yao saw her turn to leave, he panicked and rushed up to stop her.
"Yan Yan, I was wrong. I have nothing left but you. Please don't leave me, okay?"
Su Yan looked at him coldly and slowly pried his hands apart.
"He Yao, what do you still have that's real? I... never mind, let's not see each other again."
He Yao watched her departing figure helplessly, a nameless rage suddenly rising in his chest.
He unleashed all his emotions at once: "Su Yan! So this is what you're like—a vain woman!"
Su Yan's back stiffened for a moment, then she stopped.
She turned her head and looked at him with a hurt expression, a look that left He Yao speechless.
"He Yao, thank you so much. You made me experience the beauty of love for the first time."
He Yao was taken aback and was about to speak when she changed the subject and said, "It was you who made me completely lose my hope for love. I think I will never be attracted to any man again."
Su Yan's voice was almost choked with sobs. She looked deeply at He Yao, then turned away, wiping her tears, and ran off.
He Yao watched her disappear from his sight with trembling eyes, then helplessly lowered his hands.
When he calmed himself down and returned to the office, he found that everyone was looking at him strangely.
Whenever he turns his head, people always whisper about him behind his back.
Even if he couldn't hear what was being said, He Yao could roughly guess what it was.
It must be that shameless woman Wu Feifei. If she can't have him, she wants to destroy him!
He Yao clenched his fists, his anger burning fiercely. He wished he could beat Wu Feifei up to vent his anger, but there was nothing he could do.
Working is his only way out now, and he absolutely cannot give it up.
Despite all the gossip, He Yao sat in his office, surrounded by strange looks and hurtful words.
"He Yao, come in here for a moment."
The department head, looking rather displeased, called him in.
He Yao's heart tightened, and he dared not delay. He quickly got up and walked inside.
"Director, what's wrong?"
The director sighed deeply, "You young people, it's fine as long as you like to have fun and make a fuss, but you can't let it affect your work!"
He Yao's heart skipped a beat.
"Director! Let me explain, I..."
Before he could finish speaking, the director impatiently raised his hand to interrupt him.
“He Yao, it’s not that I want to punish you this time, it’s that Chairman Yi found out about this and is very angry. He feels that you have damaged the company’s image. So…”
The director didn't say anything more, but instead gave He Yao a look.
He Yao froze. How could Chairman Yi have found out about his affairs?
It must be that bitch Wu Feifei!
