Seeing his wary look, Su Yan was afraid she had frightened him, so she quickly explained, "Don't be afraid, Auntie isn't a bad person. Auntie just thinks you're so cute that she couldn't help but ask. If you don't want to say, then don't say anything, okay?"
She turned her head and gestured to Yi An with her eyes, and Yi An immediately brought up the toys she had prepared in advance.
Su Yan accepted it, forcing a gentle smile, and said, "This is a gift from your aunt. Do you like it?"
Bao Han stared at the exquisite toy car in Su Yan's hand, his pupils shrinking in amazement.
He wanted to reach out and take it, but he was afraid of something and couldn't move for a long time.
Su Yan simply handed the toy to him, saying, "Here, Auntie gave it to you because she likes you."
She raised her hand and tentatively reached out to touch Bao Han's head. Seeing that he did not resist, she boldly stroked his hair.
Bao Han held the toy car in his hands, his little face beaming with joy.
"Thank you, Auntie! I love this car so much! I asked my mom to buy it for me, but she not only refused, she also scolded me. I wish you were my mom."
He recounted with aggrieved feelings that because of a toy car, he not only completely let down his guard against Su Yan, but his affection for her also skyrocketed, seemingly surpassing even his mother's status.
Su Yan's eyes reddened as she listened to his words.
"If you like it, Auntie will come back and buy it for you again later, okay?"
Upon hearing this, Bao Han looked up in surprise, nodding his head like a chick pecking at rice.
"I love Auntie so much!"
Su Yan forced back her tears and nodded with a smile.
Seeing that the atmosphere between the two was not bad, Yi An patted Su Yan on the shoulder and whispered, "You talk to him, I'll go find someone nearby to find out what's going on."
Su Yan simply nodded, her gaze fixed on Bao Han.
She looked at his dark little face, scrutinizing it from side to side, but couldn't see any trace of his childhood self; instead, she felt a strong sense of unfamiliarity.
This sense of unfamiliarity made her feel scared.
Can time really wash away even the bonds of blood?
Su Yan tentatively asked, "Hanhan, your back is dirty. Can Auntie help you clean it?"
At this moment, Bao Han had no guard up against Su Yan at all, and turned his head to give her his back.
He, on the other hand, was engrossed in playing with his toy car, thoroughly enjoying himself.
Su Yan looked at his back, which was so close to hers, and her heart started pounding so hard it felt like it was going to jump out of her throat.
She tentatively reached out, her hand trembling with excitement.
Just by lifting her clothes and taking a look, she could tell whether the child was indeed her Chenchen.
Su Yan grabbed Bao Han's clothes and held them tightly in her hand.
She is now so fragile that she can't withstand even the slightest harm.
She had finally made up her mind and was just about to pull herself up when she heard a loud shout behind her.
Who are you?!
Su Yan turned her head in surprise and saw a woman who looked to be quite old, probably over fifty.
Time has left its mark on her face, making her look rougher than a woman, more like an unkempt man.
The clothes on his body looked faded, I don't know how many times they had been washed.
She was carrying a bottle of soy sauce.
It was this bottle of soy sauce that made Su Yan quickly realize her identity.
"Who are you·····"
Before Su Yan could finish speaking, Feng Xiuqin darted past her and pulled Bao Han up from the ground.
"Didn't I tell you not to talk to strangers? Why don't you listen?"
Enraged, Feng Xiuqin slapped Bao Han's buttocks twice.
The sound was so loud that it not only made Bao Han cry, but even Su Yan felt heartbroken upon hearing it.
"Don't hit him like that, it hurts him so much!"
Su Yan tried to step forward to stop her, but Feng Xiuqin rudely pushed her away.
Feng Xiuqin looked at her warily and questioned her sharply, "It's my job to take care of my own children! Who are you? What are you up to by deliberately getting close to my children?!"
Su Yan was speechless, her eyes filled with Bao Han wiping away tears, unable to utter a single word.
Yi An, who was originally inquiring about the situation from the side, heard the commotion, turned around and saw that Su Yan was having a conflict with someone, so he immediately rushed over.
Feng Xiuqin already found Su Yan increasingly suspicious, and when she saw a grown man running over, she was even more frightened and hurriedly pulled Bao Han away.
"Go home! Go home right now!"
"Why!"
Yi An tried to stop them, but it was too late. She watched helplessly as Feng Xiuqin dragged Bao Han away.
Su Yan didn't chase after them, her gaze fixed blankly on the toy car that had been abandoned on the ground.
That's his mother.
As she spoke, her mouth was filled with bitterness, like a cup of bitter wine burning down her throat and into her stomach.
Yi An asked, "Are you sure about his identity?"
Su Yan shook her head in disappointment, "He was dragged away by his mother before he could get a chance, and it will probably be even harder to find another opportunity later."
Yi An comforted her, saying, "It's okay, there will always be another chance. Don't blame yourself."
Su Yan was deeply immersed in her emotions and couldn't extricate herself.
"I can't even recognize my own son, isn't that a failure?"
Yi An had never seen her look so dejected. She wanted to take her hand and pull her into her arms, but as soon as she reached out, she hesitated and changed course, patting her shoulder rather in a daze.
“It’s alright, I just inquired. Bao Han’s mother, Feng Xiuqin, is quite strange. Not only did her husband die young, but she also suddenly had a second child when she was almost fifty. As for who Bao Han’s father is, the neighbors can only guess and don’t know who he is.”
Upon hearing this, Su Yan suddenly felt a glimmer of hope.
"What you're saying is that Bao Han is very likely Chenchen."
Seeing that she had regained some of her spirits, Yi An quickly nodded: "Yes! So don't give up. Let's think of another way and try again."
Su Yan thought his words made sense, glanced twice at the spot where Bao Han had been dragged away, and then followed Yi An out of the residential area.
As soon as he stepped out of the residential area, Yi An suddenly stopped and stared blankly in one direction.
Su Yan followed his gaze and looked over in confusion, only to see a couple cuddling together not far away.
"You know them?"
Yi An wanted to explain, but suddenly noticed that the woman's gaze had turned towards them. She quickly pulled Su Yan behind a nearby tree.
What are you looking at?
Sheng Feichen turned his head to look behind him, but there was nothing there. He frowned and looked at Feng Lin, who was staring blankly in front of him.
Feng Lin stood there with some doubt, glanced at the tree a couple more times, and then hesitantly looked away.
"It's nothing, I just suddenly saw things, and I think I saw Zhao Bo's brother, Yi An."
Upon hearing this, Sheng Feichen immediately smiled.
"Have you gone mad from all this? What's the CEO of such a big company like Yi'an doing here in your run-down neighborhood?
