Zhao Bo also comforted her with words.
Feng Lin looked like she was about to cry, "Brother Bo! Please listen to me! Leave me some dignity!"
When Zhao Bo turned his head and touched her face, his heart immediately softened, and he did whatever she asked.
"Okay, okay, let's go, we'll ignore them."
The two left hand in hand, while those who had been gossiping scoffed behind their backs.
"I knew it! How could someone steal a child out of nowhere? With a brain like that, they deserved to be stolen! Bah!"
Zhao Bo was completely unaware of their "evaluations" and was still feeling sorry for Feng Lin.
"Linlin, you're just too kind, that's why they bully you like this."
Feng Lin adopted a magnanimous attitude, saying, "Forget it, Brother Bo. Anyway, my mom and I are moving out. Let them say a few words; it's not like it'll hurt us."
When Zhao Bo heard her say that, he felt a pang of pain and gripped her hand tightly.
"Linlin, I'm sorry to have made you suffer."
Feng Lin leaned her head against Zhao Bo's shoulder. "It's okay, Brother Bo. As long as you're by my side, I don't feel wronged at all."
The two lingered for a while longer before going upstairs.
Feng Lin's house wasn't as tidy as when Zhao Bo last came. Upon entering, there were cardboard boxes all over the floor, filled with packed luggage.
"Aunt."
Zhao Bo came in and greeted Feng Xiuqin.
Feng Xiuqin's attitude towards Zhao Bo was noticeably kinder this time.
"Xiao Zhao, it's really kind of you to make this trip. We're just a widow and her child, and we really don't know what to do about this."
Zhao Bo was very generous in responding to her heartfelt thanks.
"It's okay, Auntie. Just treat me like your son. Linlin and I have the same relationship anyway, so it's fine for you to order me around."
Hearing these heartwarming words, Feng Xiuqin's gaze towards Zhao Bo softened even more.
"Then I'll have to trouble you, Xiao Zhao." She spoke with utmost politeness.
Zhao Bo said a couple more times that it was nothing, and then started rolling up his sleeves and getting to work. He made more than a dozen trips back and forth before he finally got everything loaded onto the truck.
He was so tired that his face was flushed and he was sweating profusely, which made Feng Xiuqin feel sorry for him.
She turned to Feng Lin and scolded, "Why didn't you hire a moving company? You can't make things this complicated!"
Zhao Bo, still out of breath, hurriedly explained for Feng Lin, "Auntie, don't blame her. The moving company people are rough and careless. What if she bumps or knocks something over? I can manage by myself. Look, it's all packed up now, it just took a little time."
He repeated exactly what Feng Lin had said to him with great concern.
Feng Xiuqin sighed, "Silly child, what valuable things could we possibly have in our house? It's not like our things can't be bumped or scratched!"
Feng Lin interrupted the two of them when she heard they were about to continue.
"Alright, Mom, stop talking. It's getting late, and we still have to move. Let's go."
Following her words, Feng Xiuqin glanced at the house again, filled with reluctance.
This house was allocated to Feng Lin by her father's work unit when she got married. More than 20 years have passed in the blink of an eye, and it's really hard to leave now that she has to move.
Zhao Bo saw through her thoughts and comforted her with a smile, "Auntie, come back whenever you want after things have settled down over there."
Feng Xiuqin nodded in agreement, but she knew very well that once she was branded as a child abductor, she would never be able to come back.
With Zhao Bo and Feng Lin supporting her, Feng Xiuqin finally walked out of the house. Amidst the pointing and whispering of the crowd in the community, the three of them left the community.
As Zhao Bo started the car, he deliberately glanced at Feng Xiuqin in the back seat through the rearview mirror.
"Auntie, please don't take their gossip to heart. We all see that you treat Hanhan like your own child."
Feng Xiuqin nodded perfunctorily and said nothing more.
Zhao Bo wisely kept quiet and followed the navigation to Feng Lin's new home, using the address she gave him.
As soon as the car stopped in front of his new home, Zhao Bo wondered if he had driven to the wrong place.
He checked the navigation several times to make sure it was correct before accepting the reality before him.
He hesitated before getting out of the car. The neighborhood in front of him looked newer than Feng Lin's previous home.
However, the location of this house is somewhat special.
Feng Lin walked straight to the entrance to the basement and called to Zhao Bo, "What are you standing there for? Hurry up and bring your things in!"
Zhao Bo then came to his senses and followed Feng Lin downstairs with his things.
A damp, rotten smell hit him, causing Zhao Bo to frown.
Feng Lin took out her key, opened a basement door, and pointed inside, saying, "Brother Bo, just put your things here."
Zhao Bo looked in the direction she was pointing. The basement wasn't big; you could see the whole room at a glance.
The entire basement has only one window, and it's only half a window.
This was precisely the time when the basement should have been bathed in the brightest sunlight, yet the entire basement remained incredibly dark.
Feng Lin stole glances at his expression, and when she saw his serious face, the corners of her mouth began to secretly turn up.
She didn't believe Zhao Bo could stand watching this.
Zhao Bo had lived a life of luxury since childhood, and this was the first time he had ever seen a house like this. Of course, he couldn't stand it.
In his mind, this place was simply not a place for humans to live.
He put his things down, grabbed Feng Lin, and led her to the other side.
"How could you find a place to live like this? How can anyone live here?"
Feng Lin feigned surprise and asked, "Why can't people live here?"
Zhao Bo didn't know what to say. He turned his head and looked anxiously in Feng Xiuqin's direction, then lowered his voice and said, "Auntie is so old. How can she be healthy living in a place like this? Even if you don't think about yourself, you should think about Auntie."
Feng Lin lowered her head, her face full of dejection.
"Brother Bo, do you think I don't want my mom to live in a big house? But our family's current financial situation only allows us to live in this kind of house! What can I do?"
"What about your old house? Weren't you going to sell it?" Zhao Bo asked immediately.
"It's not that easy. That house is so old, it's practically a dilapidated building. It's hard to even rent it out, let alone sell it."
Zhao Bo was stunned when he heard her complaints.
He turned his head to look at the basement, then at Feng Xiuqin standing alone. After thinking for a long time, he suddenly turned his head and picked up the box.
"Come with me, you absolutely cannot stay here!"
Feng Xiuqin had no idea what had happened and looked in astonishment at Zhao Bo, who was walking at lightning speed.
"Little Zhao, what's wrong now?"
She wanted to ask something more, but Feng Lin grabbed her and pulled her out.
Zhao Bo put the box back in the car and opened the door for Feng Lin and Feng Xiuqin to get in.
