She didn't answer Yi An's question, but instead took out her phone, which had been ringing non-stop since earlier. Looking at the call from Feng Lin, she pressed the hang-up button.
She returned to the dialing interface and pressed the 110 key without hesitation.
The call was answered.
"Hello, this is the Fu'an District Police Station. How can I help you?"
"I want to call the police; I'm being blackmailed."
Shi Zhengyang's law firm.
Shi Zhengyang looked at Feng Lin, who was sitting on the sofa staring at her phone with a panicked expression, and teased, "Miss Feng, you're not going to say that something went wrong with the rest of the money and you can't pay it today, are you?"
Although he was smiling, the smile didn't reach his eyes at all, making people feel a chill involuntarily.
Feng Lin smiled apologetically, "Please wait a moment, I'll go out and make another call."
She bowed deeply to express her apology, then hurriedly walked out the door, clutching her phone.
As soon as the door slammed shut behind him, Shi Zhengyang's face, which had been smiling gently just moments before, suddenly turned cold.
He turned to his secretary behind him and asked, "Was the clause about non-refundable deposit for unilateral breach of contract added to the contract?"
"Don't worry, Attorney Shi, it's already been added."
Upon receiving an affirmative answer, Shi Zhengyang's brows relaxed, and he became gentle and polite again.
Completely unaware that she had lost both her wife and her army, Feng Lin was outside repeatedly calling Su Yan.
The result was that Su Yan hung up decisively time and time again, until she became so impatient that she eventually blocked Feng Lin's phone number.
Feng Lin panicked completely. She didn't know whether Su Yan's sudden act of playing her trick was because she suddenly found out about the matter that gave her the confidence to block the phone number, or if she was just trying to suppress her arrogance.
Just as she was frantic and didn't know what to do, a commotion suddenly came from the office not far away.
Feng Lin looked in that direction and saw a group of people dressed as police officers.
Her heart skipped a beat. She instinctively felt that the police were coming for her. She tried to run, but the police had already spotted her.
Unaware of what they were saying to each other, they glanced at the photo in their hands again and walked straight toward her.
Feng Lin's legs felt like they were made of lead, and she couldn't move an inch. Her eyes were filled with terror as she watched them approach.
Hearing the commotion outside, Shi Zhengyang opened the door and came out, just in time to see the police arresting Feng Lin.
"Hello, someone has reported you to the police for suspected extortion. Please come with us."
Shi Zhengyang was greatly surprised when he heard this.
"She's extorting money from me?"
After saying this, he suddenly realized why the remaining payment was delayed, and his gaze toward Feng Lin became intriguing.
Feng Lin was so frightened that she couldn't speak and let the police take her away.
As the police officer passed by Shi Zhengyang, he suddenly stopped, turned around, and asked, "Are you her lawyer?"
Shi Zhengyang was startled. He quickly glanced at Feng Lin and smiled brightly, "Not yet."
Hearing these awkward words, the police didn't say anything more, turned around and took Feng Lin away.
Feng Lin was stunned by the sudden turn of events and only came to her senses after being taken to the police station.
"Do you know Su Yan?" the police asked as usual.
Feng Lin knew that Su Yan had called the police, and she was furious, but in order to get out of her predicament, she tried her best to pretend to be innocent and unaware.
"I know him, so what?"
"She called the police claiming you extorted 500,000 yuan from her and that she has already transferred 100,000 yuan to you. Do you admit to this?"
Feng Lin immediately shook her head vigorously, "Officer, I'm innocent! I'm a law-abiding citizen, I wouldn't do such a thing!"
Fearing the police wouldn't believe her, she quickly added, "Officer, although I do know Su Yan, our relationship is very special. She and my ex-boyfriend were in a relationship, and this relationship existed even before my ex-boyfriend and I broke up."
"So, she's held a grudge against me because of this and wanted to get revenge. She even threw paint on my doorstep to ruin my reputation. I tolerated all of that, but I never expected her to slander me like this."
Feng Lin lowered her head and sobbed, occasionally wiping away tears, looking extremely aggrieved.
The interrogating officers exchanged glances and warned, "We'll check your and her recent bank account transaction records; we'll be able to tell who's lying right away."
Feng Lin hurriedly said, "By the way, officers, there's something else I want to tell you. Yesterday, I received a huge sum of money for no reason, and I don't know who sent it to me. You must investigate this thoroughly and not wrong an innocent person."
The police officer nodded knowingly. "Ms. Feng, rest assured, we will investigate this thoroughly and will not wrong any innocent person, nor will we let any guilty person go unpunished."
Feng Lin tried hard to suppress the urge to smile, and just as she was about to feel relieved that she had gotten away with it, the police officer suddenly spoke again.
"We also have a piece of evidence provided by Miss Su Yan here."
As he spoke, he pressed the play button.
Feng Lin's voice immediately burst forth: "Su Yan! You'd better not mess with me, or I don't know what I might do!"
Upon hearing this voice, Feng Lin looked as if she had seen a ghost and was unable to move.
What she said next, such as wanting money, 500,000, asking for 100,000 first, and threatening the child to negotiate, was all played out.
After the recording finished playing, Feng Lin's face was beyond ugly; it was almost deathly pale.
The police officer slowly raised his head. "What explanation do you have for this recording?"
Feng Lin's eyes trembled, and her lips quivered, unable to speak. Finally managing to utter a sentence, she cried out, "Innocent! I'm innocent, officer! She's framing me!"
The police were unmoved by her tearful pleas. They said in an official tone, "I understand your explanation. I will have our specialists verify the authenticity of this recording and check your accounts to find out where the 100,000 came from and what it was used for."
Feng Lin was stunned, her mouth half-open, unable to speak, her face filled with despair.
The police officer tapped his finger on the table. "Let me say one more thing: your attitude has a significant impact on this case. Think it over carefully."
After he finished speaking, he packed his things and got up to leave.
Before she could even step out the door, Feng Lin suddenly broke down and burst into tears.
"I was wrong, I did it, I confess, I confess!"
The interrogating police officers exchanged glances, their faces showing not a trace of surprise.
