"Honey, are you really sure you want to go?"
Duan Sisi was shocked by Su Yan's decision; she even felt that Su Yan had made this decision out of momentary lapse of judgment.
"Darling, you should think about it again. Apart from when you and He Ziming got married, when they made a brief appearance, it seems like they've never been in your life since. Why make things difficult for yourself and insist on getting involved in this mess?"
Duan Sisi tried her best to persuade Su Yan, hoping that she could change her hasty decision.
"You say they're your own sisters, but over the years, they've hardly ever shown their faces, and they haven't even sent you a single message. Relatives like that are worse than strangers on the street!"
In her haste, she blurted out the words, and the instant she finished speaking, she immediately realized her slip of the tongue and regretted it.
She hurriedly looked at Su Yan and apologized with a face full of guilt: "I'm sorry, darling, I misspoke, ptooey ptooey ptooey."
Su Yan remained completely unfazed. Instead, she looked at Duan Sisi with a nonchalant smile.
"It's okay, you're not wrong! Our relationship is indeed worse than that of strangers."
Duan Sisi looked at her with worried eyes, hesitated for a long time, and then asked again, "Are you really going? Have you thought it through?"
Faced with her deep concern, Su Yan readily agreed.
"Of course, it's nothing, just consider it a return gift."
She said that, but when she actually got to the hotel, her legs felt like they were made of lead, and she couldn't take another step.
Su Yan looked up at the large "double happiness" character on the hotel door, hesitated for a long time, and then took a hesitant step.
She could feel the joyous atmosphere of a newlywed as soon as she entered the hotel.
Yu Wende was stunned when he saw the woman who suddenly stopped in front of him. He frowned and stared at her for a long time before asking in a friendly manner, "Hello, are you here to attend Su Xuan and Du Zhiming's wedding?"
His question went unanswered, but it did attract the attention of Ye Mei, who was standing beside him.
Ye Mei turned her head in the direction of the voice, her face still bearing the smile she had just exchanged with someone.
But when her gaze fell upon Su Yan's face, which was both familiar and somewhat unfamiliar, all her smiles froze on her face.
Her eyelashes trembled as she looked at Su Yan in front of her again and again, as if she couldn't believe it, repeatedly confirming its authenticity.
Seeing Ye Mei's strange reaction, Yu Wende asked in a low voice, puzzled, "Who is this? Do you know her?"
Ye Mei suddenly grabbed his hand and quickly looked away as if trying to avoid him.
"Su Yan." She murmured Su Yan's name.
Unfortunately, her voice was too soft for Yu Wende to hear clearly. He only understood when she raised her voice appropriately.
"Su Yan? Is she your daughter?" Yu Wende blurted out, his voice filled with uncertainty.
Ye Mei didn't dare to look at Su Yan again, and only nodded slightly.
The panic and confusion Su Yan had felt earlier vanished without a trace in that instant, leaving her frighteningly calm.
Her emotionless eyes followed Ye Mei's face intently as she casually pulled a red envelope from her bag and handed it over.
Congratulations!
As Yu Wende accepted the red envelope, he began to strike up a conversation with Su Yan in an overly familiar manner: "So you're Su Yan! I've often heard your mother mention you. I even wanted to go to your wedding last time. But my position was a bit awkward, so your mother didn't let me go."
Su Yan glanced at Ye Mei and replied with a half-smile, "It's fine, we're already divorced anyway, it's pointless to go."
Ye Mei was stunned for a moment, then quickly looked up at Su Yan.
Why did you get divorced?
Su Yan noticed that Su Yan hadn't reacted to anything Su Yan had said before, but reacted strongly to the news of her divorce. What was she so agitated about? Was she afraid that Su Yan's divorce would embarrass her?
"What's it to you?" Su Yan retorted coldly without any politeness.
Ye Mei was about to open her mouth, but then silently closed it again, unable to say a word as she looked at Su Yan.
Seeing that the atmosphere between the two was a bit awkward, Yu Wende quickly tried to ease the tension with a forced laugh.
"Today is Xuanxuan's big day, let's not talk about those unhappy things. Su Yan, you can go ahead..."
Before he could finish speaking, he was interrupted by a loud laugh.
The laughter was so loud that everyone entering the hotel couldn't help but stare, wondering if they had come to a hotel or a market.
Su Yan looked in the direction of the laughter and saw a middle-aged woman with a wrinkled face walking over. She was wearing a bright red dress with peonies and had small curls in her hair, which was quite festive and appropriate for the occasion.
As Su Yan sized her up, the middle-aged woman was also sizing her up.
"Who is this?" the woman asked Ye Mei, pointing at Su Yan.
Ye Mei changed her previous attitude towards Su Yan, and with a smile, she pulled her hand and explained, "My dear in-law, this is my eldest daughter."
"Your daughter?"
Song Qiu'e was startled upon hearing this, and her gaze towards Su Yan instantly changed.
"Is she really your daughter?"
This surprised question, repeatedly confirmed, not only made Ye Mei's face turn sour, but also made Su Yan's face turn cold.
"Yes." Ye Mei answered awkwardly, then turned and hurriedly called Su Yan to walk into the hall, "Go inside and find a seat yourself, don't just stand here, it doesn't look good."
These words did carry a hint of reproach.
Su Yan felt a chill in her heart. Just as she was about to refuse and turn to leave, Song Qiu'e blocked her way.
Song Qiu'e warmly took her hand, carefully examining her from head to toe, her eyes filled with joy.
"This girl is really pretty! Much prettier than Su Xuan! She's tall and slender too! And look at her outfit, it's not ordinary either, she's definitely from a big city!"
She praised Su Yan from head to toe, and finally said, "She really doesn't look like the kind of daughter you two could have had."
Her words made Yu Wende feel visibly awkward, and he stood there, unsure of how to respond.
Song Qiu'e turned to Ye Mei and scolded, "What are you afraid of? You have such a precious daughter at home, and you're hiding her away? Do you think she'll be snatched away by a wolf?"
She covered her mouth and laughed, thinking she was being humorous, then took Su Yan's hand and asked softly, "Are you married?"
Ye Mei suddenly interrupted, "Mother-in-law, have you taken good care of the guests inside? Don't let them say we've neglected them."
Song Qiu'e waved her hand dismissively, "We still have time to talk for a while."
She turned her head and looked at Su Yan eagerly, waiting for the answer.
Su Yan glanced in Ye Mei's direction and saw that her expression was unreadable and she seemed a little uneasy, so she answered simply and somewhat defiantly, "No."
Upon hearing this, Song Qiu'e was even happier.
