"Su Yan."
Su Xuehai called out again, and Su Yan stiffly turned her head.
The moment she touched Su Xuehai's face, she turned pale.
Just as Su Xuehai was about to tentatively step forward, before he could even take a step, Su Yan suddenly screamed and turned to run away.
Because the heels were so high, it was as if she was walking on stilts when she ran, and she almost fell to the ground several times.
The receptionist was stunned by the sudden turn of events. Seeing Su Xuehai about to chase after him, she hurriedly shouted for security to stop him.
Su Yan didn't care about the mess behind her anymore. She plunged into the elevator, not even bothering to crawl, and frantically pressed the elevator buttons.
The staff in the elevator were also startled by her appearance and tentatively approached her to ask, "Ms. Su, what's wrong?"
Su Yan huddled in the corner of the elevator, her mouth half-open but unable to say a word, her hands gripping her collar tightly, her eyes filled with fear.
"Let's go, let's go!"
Su Xuehai was thrown out of the building by security guards like trash.
He didn't leave, but stood there, frowning as he looked inside, his eyes seeming to anticipate seeing Su Yan come out again.
His figure was slightly hunched, and only after being repeatedly urged by the security guards did he slowly take a step and walk out.
Before he could take two steps, Su Xuehai suddenly convulsed, and then collapsed to the ground as if he had lost his electricity.
"Hey! Don't try to scam me here!"
The security guard called out several times, but saw no response from him, so he hesitated and stepped forward.
Upon closer inspection, it became clear that Su Xuehai had long since lost consciousness.
The security guard was so frightened that he immediately pulled out his phone and dialed 120 without thinking.
Amidst a crowd of onlookers, Su Xuehai was lifted into an ambulance, and his secretary hurriedly went to Su Yan's office.
As soon as he knocked on the door, Su Yan shuddered uncontrollably.
She turned her head, still somewhat disoriented, and only when she saw that the person who walked in was her secretary did she finally exhale the breath she had been holding in.
"What's up?"
"Mr. Su, the man who was looking for you just now fainted and was taken to the hospital."
Su Yan was immediately shocked and seemed completely at a loss.
The secretary observed her complexion and tentatively asked, "Ms. Su, would you like to go to the hospital to get checked out?"
Without even thinking, Su Yan refused: "No need!"
She took a breath and her tone calmed down.
"I understand, you can leave now."
After the secretary closed the office door and left, Su Yan slumped into her office chair as if she had collapsed from exhaustion.
Her brows were tightly furrowed, leaving a deep "川" (river) character on her face.
Hospital.
"Excuse me, please move aside!"
The nurse pushed Su Xuehai along, calling out urgently.
Qiao Chen subconsciously tugged at Duan Sisi, who hadn't reacted yet, which allowed her to narrowly avoid danger.
Duan Sisi looked back with lingering fear. "What happened?"
Qiao Chen helplessly pulled her to his other side. "Baby, can we watch where we're going from now on? What will you do without me?"
Duan Sisi tilted her head back, grinned, and said in a coquettish tone, "Don't I have you now?"
"You!"
Qiao Chen's doting yet helpless voice was interrupted by the nurse calling out numbers.
Duan Sisi pulled Qiao Chen into the doctor's office.
After a series of examinations, Duan Sisi asked anxiously, "Doctor, are we both okay?"
The doctor glanced at the test report carefully. "We can't be sure yet. We'll know whose problem it is once the test results come out in two weeks."
"Okay, thank you, doctor."
Qiao Chen's expression was not good when she came out of the doctor's office.
Duan Sisi noticed his unusual mood and asked, "What's wrong? You look so sullen. The results aren't out yet. Maybe neither of us has a problem, it's just that the time isn't right for the baby."
The couple has been trying to conceive for over half a year, and the chances of both of them having no problems are extremely slim.
Qiao Chen knew that Duan Sisi's words were only temporary comfort. "It would have been better if you hadn't come to this hospital. If you had, they would have found out a whole host of problems. What would you have done then? Would you have been able to live your life?"
Duan Sisi: "Look at what you're saying! The problem is right there, is it whether you come to the hospital or not? Besides, the sooner you come to the hospital, the sooner you get treatment. Any illness will get worse if you delay it!"
Qiao Chen still looked dejected, like a wilted eggplant, unable to muster any energy.
Duan Sisi looked at him for a while, then suddenly hugged his arm affectionately.
"Honey, why don't we send Mom home first?"
She counted on her fingers, listing her reasons: "I think Mom being here puts some pressure on us. If she goes back, we can have some time alone together, relax a bit, and maybe I'll get pregnant?"
"Besides, Mom came here in the first place to help us take care of the kids. The kids are still a long way off, so let's not trouble her. Let her go back and enjoy her comfortable life, okay?"
Qiao Chen turned to look at Duan Sisi's expectant eyes, and his expression suddenly turned serious.
He pulled her hand away. "Do you dislike my mother?"
Duan Sisi hurriedly waved her hand and explained, "Of course not! I just feel that Mom has worked too hard taking care of us. She finally retired and is enjoying a peaceful life, so she shouldn't waste her time on us anymore. I'm just thinking of Mom's best interests!"
Upon hearing this, Qiao Chen immediately refused, saying, "If you have such concerns, then there's no need for them. My mother isn't like your mother, who loves to go out for food, drinks, and entertainment and squander money. My mother just likes to be with her family, to be with us; that's her happiness."
Duan Sisi found these words rather harsh and wanted to say something in rebuttal, but Qiao Chen interrupted her directly.
"Alright, if there's nothing else, I'll head back to the company now."
As Duan Sisi watched his retreating figure, which showed no sign of lingering, her chest felt as if it were stuffed with cotton, making it hard to breathe.
She angrily turned and left, deliberately walking in opposite directions from Qiao Chen out of spite.
Duan Sisi went around in circles and returned to her car in the parking lot, still angry. She was still cursing, "So what if my mom likes to go out and have fun! She didn't spend a single penny of your money! And you say your mom likes to be with her family? To put it nicely, your mom is thrifty; to put it bluntly, she's stingy!"
She stepped on the gas and sped out of the hospital.
Duan Sisi waited at the traffic light, getting angrier the more she thought about it.
She looked up and saw the green light was on, so she turned the car around to leave. But before she could even turn, a car came hurtling towards her, followed by a loud bang.
Duan Sisi was jolted by the impact and was completely stunned.
Before she could react, the person from the car that hit her had already gotten out and confirmed the situation.
When Duan Sisi caught sight of that familiar figure, she was even more stunned.
