Chapter 373 A Marriage Between Husband and Wife (shuhaige.net)

Qiao Chen went to get a divorce unexpectedly early, earlier than Duan Sisi and Su Yan.

He watched as Duan Sisi was helped out of the car by Su Yan, and immediately rushed over to her, asking with great concern, "Wife, are you feeling better?"

Duan Sisi didn't even glance at him, nor did she listen to his words. She simply turned to Su Yan and said softly, "Now that everyone's here, let's go."

Su Yan pushed Qiao Chen aside and helped Duan Sisi inside.

Qiao Chen's eyes held a hint of ruthlessness as he watched Su Yan's retreating figure, but this emotion didn't last long before disappearing.

He quickly followed, standing on Duan Sisi's other side, and softly reminded her, "Watch your step. Aren't you cold wearing so little?"

Su Yan felt disgusted by his unusually attentive manner, but she refrained from doing so because of Duan Sisi.

Several people went in, took a number, and sat down to wait.

Su Yan deliberately chose a seat on the side and took the only seat next to Duan Sisi first, not giving Qiao Chen any chance at all.

Qiao Chen didn't give up either, so he simply squatted down in front of Duan Sisi.

"Sisi, it's so early, you must not have eaten yet. You have a stomach problem, you can't skip breakfast, or your stomach will hurt."

He took out the scallion pancakes he had bought earlier from his pocket and handed them to Duan Sisi.

"This is your favorite scallion pancake from the shop in the east of the city. I bought it early this morning. I kept it warm with my hands to keep it from getting cold. It's just the right size, so eat it quickly."

Duan Sisi's gaze was unfocused, fixed on one side, and she did not respond.

Qiao Chen wanted to say something more, but he angered Su Yan.

"Qiao Chen, I warned you."

Qiao Chen felt no fear whatsoever when she heard her blatant threat; instead, she was quite self-righteous.

"As long as we're not divorced, she's my wife. I care about my wife, what's it to you?"

Upon hearing this, Su Yan sneered repeatedly.

"Qiao Chen, don't joke around here. Aren't you afraid people will laugh their heads off? If you really cared about her, would you have imprisoned her and let her become so weak that she couldn't even keep the baby?"

She pushed Qiao Chen's hand holding the scallion pancake away, saying, "Save your breath."

Qiao Chen was about to argue when Duan Sisi's number came in. She stood up expressionlessly and walked to the window like a robot.

Qiao Chen watched as she neatly took out all the necessary documents, and the little bit of hope she had felt vanished.

He was on high alert, grabbed Duan Sisi's hand, and said urgently, "Sisi, can you give me another chance to speak?"

Duan Sisi immediately withdrew her hand, her gaze still fixed straight ahead.

Before she could answer, the staff member processing their divorce papers added, "You've been husband and wife, one more word won't make a difference. Besides, I need time to verify these documents. Just listen to what they have to say."

Duan Sisi remained silent, so Qiao Chen spoke up instead.

"Sisi, I've thought a lot about this these past two days. I know I made a mistake, and I deserve this result. But I feel sorry for you and want to make it up to you."

He took a pull tab from his pocket and held it up in front of Duan Sisi.

"Sisi, do you remember what this is?"

Duan Sisi glanced at him briefly, then turned back without any emotion.

"To be honest, I didn't give you anything decent when we got married. I brought you home with just a simple can pull tab. At that time, I felt that you were a rare and wonderful girl, and I vowed to treat you well and give you a real diamond ring."

Qiao Chen lowered her head dejectedly and said guiltily, "But I broke my promise. Not only did I not compensate you with a real diamond ring, I also hurt you."

He then took out a small, exquisite box from his pocket and knelt down on one knee in front of Duan Sisi.

"Sisi, today I'm going to keep my promise, but are you still willing?"

Qiao Chen opened the box, revealing the diamond ring inside. He looked at Duan Sisi with deep affection, expecting an answer.

The staff's attention was drawn to this, their eyes filled with emotion.

Su Yan clenched her fingers tightly, wishing she could tear Qiao Chen to pieces. She knew Qiao Chen's petty, scheming thoughts all too well.

Unable to gain any advantage from her, he decided to look for a breakthrough with Duan Sisi. Once he won over Duan Sisi, she would be powerless against him, unless he abandoned Duan Sisi as his best friend.

Su Yan kept a close eye on Duan Sisi, afraid that she might soften her heart and fall into Qiao Chen's trap.

But Duan Sisi was clearly heartbroken. She sat there motionless, as if she wasn't the one being proposed to again.

Qiao Chen wasn't worried when he saw that she didn't react, because he had prepared more than just these.

He immediately pulled a small bottle out of his pocket. The bottle was crystal clear, and upon closer inspection, there was a small note inside.

"Sisi, do you still remember this? You gave it to me a year ago for my birthday. At that time, you told me that it was a get-out-of-jail-free card. No matter what mistakes I made, as long as I showed you this get-out-of-jail-free card, you would forgive me."

He looked at Duan Sisi expectantly, "Now that I've taken it out, will you keep your promise and forgive me?"

Duan Sisi twitched the corners of her mouth and uttered, "Of course you can."

Just as the staff were about to be happy and Su Yan was about to step forward, Duan Sisi turned her head and casually said, "But which thing do you want to pledge?"

Qiao Chen stared at her eyes, which were like a still pond, and was completely dumbfounded. Even the hand holding the ring trembled.

Ignoring his expression, Duan Sisi lowered her head and began to seriously count on her fingers.

"Did you help your mother throw away my cat, or did you insult my character, or did you do those inhuman things to me and my child?"

She smirked, "Even if I gave you a hundred pardons, you still couldn't outdo me."

Qiao Chen was speechless, but the staff member watching couldn't help but speak up and say, "Young lady, if I may not like to say it, life is full of ups and downs. From what you've said, I can tell that it's probably because of issues with your mother-in-law."

She launched into a long, experienced explanation: "Speaking of mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationships, that's always been a difficult problem to solve! It mainly depends on your husband's attitude. Look at your husband, he's much better than most of the husbands I've seen here! What more could you want!"

Su Yan hadn't interfered in Qiao Chen and Duan Sisi's affairs before because she felt that no matter how close she was to Duan Sisi, she was ultimately an outsider. But she didn't expect that a staff member handling divorces would also get involved and muddy the waters, and that was something she couldn't tolerate.

"Sisi, have we come to the wrong place?"
