Yi An acted as if she hadn't heard her and asked directly, "What happened to Xiao Bao?"
Lin Hui was stunned for a moment, then smiled and snuggled up to him, affectionately taking his arm.
"I'm thinking of changing Xiaobao's school to a new one, what do you think?"
Yi An immediately stood up, and at the same time, subtly withdrew her arm, walked to the French windows, and distanced herself from Lin Hui.
"You can decide this yourself; you don't need to ask me."
“You’re Xiaobao’s father, if I don’t ask you, who should I ask?” Lin Hui retorted excitedly.
Yi An didn't even glance at her before issuing an order to leave.
"Now you know my answer. I still have work to do, so you can go back now."
Lin Hui's face turned pale and then red at his blunt words. She stood there for a while before slowly walking forward and hugging Yi An from behind.
“Brother An, you haven’t been home for a long time. Auntie misses you. Why don’t you come back and have dinner with Auntie tonight? Xiao Bao has been grumbling these past few days about missing his dad and grandma.”
She was easy to talk to and reasonable, but Yi'an was a bit cold and unapproachable.
He simply pried her hands off and sat back down in his seat.
"I understand, you can go back now."
She had already said kind words and given him a hard time, but Lin Hui didn't know what else to do. She couldn't stand the anger, so she picked up her bag and left without looking back.
The door was closed for a short time before it was pushed open again.
Zhao Bo's head peeked out from under the door.
When Zhao Bo saw Yi An sitting there with a sour face, he laughed gleefully.
“Miss Lin has condescended to come to your small town, and you still give her such a sour face. Besides, what she said is right. Even if you don’t like her, you should at least give your son’s mother a nice look.”
Yi An suddenly interrupted him angrily: "Don't mention this! How could I have a child with her!"
Zhao Bo's teasing mood was completely suppressed by his angry shout, and he dared not utter another sound.
Lin Hui, seething with anger, stormed out of the office.
She hadn't taken more than two steps when she stopped again, probably still hoping that Yi'an would stop her.
But she waited for a long time and didn't hear any shouts.
Disappointed, she turned back, glared at the closed office door, and stormed out without looking back.
At this moment, Su Yan was nowhere to be found; she was not at her workstation.
Lin Hui glanced at her workstation with a complicated expression, then walked gracefully to the front desk with the gait of a model and tapped on the table.
Liu Beibei looked up in surprise, and when she met Lin Hui's gaze, she immediately stood up in a panic.
"Miss Lin... Miss Lin!"
She even started to stutter.
Lin Hui impatiently looked away and asked in a questioning tone, "What was the name of the person who delivered the coffee?"
Liu Beibei was taken aback, not understanding why she asked that, but after hesitating for a moment, she still said, "She is the new secretary, her name is Su Yan."
"Su Yan," Lin Hui murmured, repeating herself, "when did she arrive?"
"Today," Liu Beibei replied softly.
Lin Hui lowered her head and thought for a moment, then turned and left without even leaving her a word.
As soon as Lin Hui entered the elevator, Su Yan slowly walked out from around the corner, carrying a cup of coffee.
She ran her fingers along the rim of the glass, staring at the closing elevator doors, and murmured to herself, "Lin Hui, Yi An's fiancée, is getting interesting."
Lin Hui walked out of the elevator with a solemn expression, wearing high heels, and entered the underground parking garage.
The high heels clicked against the ground with a crisp "clack, clack" sound.
She took out her keys from her bag, pressed a button casually, and a red sports car nearby made the sound of unlocking.
Lin Hui deftly opened the car door and got in, while simultaneously taking out her phone and dialing a number.
The phone was answered after only two rings.
"Hey, Nannan, what's up? Why are you calling me at this hour?"
Hearing the woman's enthusiastic voice, Lin Hui's brows remained tightly furrowed.
"Mom, that woman is back."
Which woman?
Lin's mother on the other end of the phone was completely confused.
Lin Hui suddenly became excited and shouted, "It's that woman, the woman who gave birth to Xiao Bao! She's back!"
She looked terrified and was at a loss for what to do.
"Not only did she come back, she also showed up at Yi An's company. Did she find out? Is she coming back to take Xiao Bao away from me?"
There was a two-second silence on the other end of the phone, followed by a deep voice saying, "Come back first, and we'll talk in detail when you get back."
A low-profile black sedan drove smoothly out of the city and headed towards the suburbs.
There were only two people in the spacious car.
Besides the driver, there was a little boy in the back seat.
The little boy had fair skin and delicate features; upon closer inspection, one could even see a resemblance to Li Qingzhao in his features.
His eyelids were lowered, and if it weren't for his long eyelashes fluttering, one would definitely think he was asleep, a sleeping beauty.
The driver noticed his unusual behavior and would glance at him through the rearview mirror every now and then.
Finally unable to hold back any longer, the driver asked with concern, "Xiao Bao, what's wrong? Why are you so downcast?"
Upon hearing the question, Yi Kangle slowly raised his head, his eyes watery and misty.
"Is Mom angry with Xiaobao?" he asked, his voice choked with emotion.
The driver was taken aback, but immediately offered words of comfort.
"No, Miss Lin just had something urgent to attend to and didn't have time to see you off."
No matter how he tried to coax him, Yi Kangle remained sullen, head bowed, sitting there without uttering a sound.
“Xiao Bao didn’t call his dad back yesterday. Mom must be angry with him because of that. Xiao Bao is so useless.”
His voice was weak and full of remorse.
Tears welled up in his eyes, but he bit his lip tightly to keep them from falling.
The driver tried everything to coax and persuade him the whole way, but to no avail.
Xiao Bao may look soft and cuddly, but he actually has his own ideas. Once he's made up his mind, no one can change it.
That's exactly like Mr. Yi.
The car slowly came to a stop in front of the kindergarten.
"Uncle, I'm going to kindergarten."
Yi Kangle obediently said something, then pushed open the car door, got out of the car, and went into the kindergarten without looking back.
The driver swallowed back the words he was about to say about wanting to take him inside.
How could Miss Lin bear to treat such a sensible and adorable child like this?
He was truly baffled by this problem.
Yi Kangle, carrying her little schoolbag, raised her face to the glaring sunlight and looked at the wooden sign of the kindergarten.
Starlight Kindergarten.
"Another new kindergarten."
Hopefully, there are children in this kindergarten who like him.
He silently prayed as he slowly walked inside.
