Chapter Six: Heaven is Punishing Her (shuhaige.net)

Su Yan shifted her gaze and saw the awkward signature in the lower right corner. She could vaguely make out the three characters "Su Xiaoyu".

Her smile froze on her face.

"Xiaoyu is here."

It was the teacher's voice that woke Su Yan up.

She lowered her gaze, not daring to look at the painting again, and hurriedly walked to her teacher's side as if fleeing.

She turned her head and looked through the glass in the direction the teacher was pointing.

A petite figure sat obediently in a chair with her back to her, holding a black paintbrush in her hand, drawing something on the paper.

She took a breath and, feigning composure, asked the teacher, "Is she always like this? Drawing alone in the classroom?"

The teacher looked conflicted, unsure of what to say. After much hesitation, she finally managed to say, "Xiaoyu seems different from the other children."

Such a simple sentence was like a thorn viciously stabbing into Su Yan's tender heart.

It seemed as if everyone was doing their best to remind her that Xiaoyu was different.

Su Yan suppressed the rising sourness and handed the paintbrush to the teacher.

"I'll have to trouble you to take good care of her in the future."

The teacher was quite surprised. "Xiaoyu's mother, you've come all this way, aren't you going in to see her?"

Su Xiaoyu has been attending kindergarten for two months now. Except for one month ago when Aunt Sisi picked her up, she hasn't been home since.

I remember that time, Su Xiaoyu was only picked up for less than a day before she was sent back to kindergarten.

"No, thank you."

Su Yan reluctantly refused and turned to leave, but was urgently called back by the teacher.

"Xiaoyu's mom, there's something else I want to tell you."

This shout not only stopped Su Yan, but also startled Su Xiaoyu in the classroom.

She slowly turned her head and looked out the window. There was only her familiar teacher; she couldn't see anyone else.

Su Yan walked out of the kindergarten with a heavy heart. She felt like she was going to suffocate if she didn't leave. The teacher's words kept echoing in her mind.

"Xiaoyu is a bit of a loner."

"Xiaoyu likes to bully children."

Is Xiaoyu mute?

Su Yan slumped her head against the steering wheel, trembling all over, her face filled with self-reproach.

It must be God punishing her for sleeping with a strange man in such an ambiguous way.

Otherwise, why would her Chenchen be stolen, and why would her Xiaoyu grow up to be a strange child?

After what seemed like an eternity, she finally looked up, wiped the warm water from her face, sniffed, and with trembling fingers pressed the start button on the car, driving away.

From beginning to end, she had no idea that a small figure was standing on a stool, staring at her intently through the classroom glass.

After the car had disappeared from sight for a long time, Su Xiaoyu climbed down from the stool with a blank expression.

She strode to the table, grabbed the painting, threw it into the trash can without hesitation, and walked out of the classroom without looking back.

Two tiny black figures, one large and one small, are holding hands and smiling as they lie in a trash can.
