Chapter Thirty-Three: Take Care of the Uncle on the Ground

Finally, the rain stopped. Yi An dared not delay any longer, fearing that if he lingered here any longer, Su Xiaoyu would become a delirious mess.

He disregarded how dangerous the woods were in the dark and carried Su Xiaoyu out.

Everything is now left to fate.

The woods were muddy after the rain.

Yi'an walked with uneven steps, sometimes stepping into the mud, and when she pulled her foot out, she had no shoes left.

After a few times, he stopped bothering to find his shoes and started walking barefoot.

Who would have thought that he, who usually acts like a domineering CEO, could fall into such a sorry state?

It's all because of the little guy on my back!

Yi An turned her head and whispered, "Xiao Yu, don't worry, I will definitely help you find your mother."

He felt that after he finished speaking, the little figure on his back seemed to move slightly.

"Xiaoyu?" he called out hurriedly, but there was no response.

He sighed deeply and continued walking awkwardly forward.

Su Xiaoyu, who was on his back, really woke up; to be specific, she was jolted awake.

In her hazy consciousness, she simply kept her eyes open, feeling the warmth of his broad back, without uttering a sound.

Yi An's physical strength was gradually declining, and coupled with the fact that he was carrying Su Xiaoyu on his back, he was already panting heavily after walking only a short distance.

Before this, his bold statement seemed like an impossible thing.

Am I really going to die here?

As Yi An was thinking, she was suddenly blinded by a strange light.

Is anyone there?

He raised his hand to shield his eyes, squinting as he tried to see. But the light was too bright, and he couldn't see anything.

He didn't care about anything else and shouted in that direction, "There are people here! Help us!"

He thought he would run into forest rangers, but he didn't expect to be met by a group of police officers.

This was the first time he had ever experienced being surrounded by police officers.

The police looked them over and, seeing no obvious external injuries, breathed a sigh of relief and instructed others to escort them safely down the mountain.

Su Xiaoyu was taken away by the police, which lightened Yi An's burden, and she walked more briskly.

With the help of the police, they soon left the woods and returned to their camp.

There, a car was already waiting.

Because the rain was so heavy, the road to the city was flooded with mud and rocks, so they could only take the two people to the hotel first.

Su Yan stood at the hotel entrance, like a statue waiting for her husband, gazing into the endless night.

Even though she had never believed in God, she prayed in her heart to every god she knew.

Duan Sisi has good eyesight and suddenly spotted a glimmer of light in the darkness.

"What's that? Are the police back?"

Her words instantly stirred Su Yan's heart.

Su Yan ran out quickly, leaned against a pillar, and gazed into the distance.

The car stopped in front of the hotel. The police opened the door, and Yi An was the first to get out.

But whether it was because his legs were weak or he tripped over the car door, he fell forward before he even touched the ground, landing awkwardly on the steps.

"ah!"

With a scream, his face contorted in agony as a sharp, stabbing pain shot through him from one spot.

Yi An felt that today was his day of suffering. He wanted to endure it, but that place was not a place where he could endure it at all.

He fainted from the intense sweat pouring down his face.

It can't be that he's unwell, it really isn't!

In the last second before he was conscious, he suddenly heard a familiar voice.

"Little Rain!"

This voice sounds like Su Yan's.

But what's Su Yan doing here?

When he tried to open his eyes in bewilderment, the pain had already robbed him of his last shred of consciousness.

Su Yan bypassed him and rushed to the policeman behind her. She took Xiaoyu, who was wrapped up like a ball, from his arms and hugged her tightly, as if afraid that she would disappear at any moment.

"Little Rain, my Little Rain."

Su Yan burst into tears, "I'm relieved that you're alright. It's my fault, I shouldn't have left you alone."

Su Xiaoyu's expression softened slightly, whether out of embarrassment or something else, she silently avoided Su Yan's gaze.

"Why don't you do something about the uncle on the ground?"

She spoke in a muffled voice.

Everyone was stunned and turned to look at Yi An on the ground.

The police officers stepped forward and examined Yi An one by one, their faces grave as they looked at the bulging wounds.

"It seems like we won't be able to make it down the mountain until tomorrow."

Su Yan breathed a sigh of relief after watching Su Xiaoyu fall asleep.

She tiptoed out of the ward and looked at Duan Sisi sitting in the seat by the door. She asked in confusion, "Why don't you go back to rest?"

Duan Sisi stepped aside to make room for her, saying, "I'm worried you might not be able to manage on your own, so I'll stay and keep you company, and lend a hand if I can."

She glanced at Su Yan's face and scolded, "Look at you, your eyes are all bloodshot from staying up so late."

Su Yan chuckled indifferently, "What's wrong with that? Every time Xiaoyu got sick and had a fever these past few years, I've always managed to get through it all by myself."

Hearing this, Duan Sisi felt a pang of sadness. She lowered her head and said in a muffled voice, "But you have me now, so why do you still have to carry this burden alone?"

Su Yan was stunned. She glanced at her and then lowered her head.

The two sat side by side for what seemed like an eternity before Su Yan finally said, "I'm sorry."

Duan Sisi's pupils contracted sharply, and she turned to look at her in surprise.

"Why are you saying that!"

Su Yan didn't look at her, but continued to keep her head down.

"When I heard about Xiaoyu's accident, I was really scared, so I got a little emotional and said some harsh things to you. I'm sorry, I..."

Before she could finish speaking, Duan Sisi hugged her tightly, and then she felt a warm sensation on her shoulder.

"What nonsense are you talking about! Who am I? Aren't I your only support? And what's wrong with saying a few words to me? Isn't that what's the big deal? It's not like I'll lose a piece of my flesh or anything else! As long as you're happy, you can say whatever you want to me!"

The more she spoke, the hoarser her voice became, and the more choked up she became.

"Besides, it was my fault. If I had kept a close eye on Xiaoyu, this wouldn't have happened, and you wouldn't have to live in fear. I was wrong, I'm sorry."

Su Yan's tightly furrowed brows quickly relaxed.

She hugged Duan Sisi back, "Don't say anything, it's all in the past, there's no right or wrong."

Duan Sisi nodded, sobbing, before letting go of her and sitting there wiping the tears from her face.

"It's all your fault! I didn't want to cry anymore, but my eyes will definitely be swollen again tomorrow!" she complained irritably.

Su Yan coaxed with a smile, "My little beauty, you're still beautiful even if you cry and your face is swollen!"

Duan Sisi couldn't help but burst into laughter through her tears.

"You have such a mouth!"

Seeing that her tears had stopped, Su Yan's expression gradually became serious.

"I want to know why Xiaoyu suddenly had an accident. What happened?"
