Seeing his awkward and pathetic attitude, Lin Hui got angry and pushed his back hard, trying to make amends to him.
"Didn't you say before that you missed Grandma the most? Go over there and tell Grandma how much you miss her."
Yi Kangle bit his lip, resisting with all his might, unwilling to go over.
Lin Hui was angry inside, but she couldn't show it, so she could only coax her, "What's wrong with you now? Is it because I didn't buy it for you..."
Before he could finish speaking, Meng Jie interrupted him casually.
"You all go out. I have something to say to Yi'an."
Lin Hui was slightly taken aback, and then felt a tightness in her chest.
"Okay, Auntie."
She chuckled awkwardly, took Yi Kangle's hand, and walked out.
Yi Kangle didn't notice her expression, only immersed in the joy of being able to go out and play.
As soon as he stepped out the door, he was overjoyed and wanted to run to find Wu Fen.
Before he could take two steps, Lin Hui grabbed his arm.
"Mom?" Yi Kangle turned around, puzzled.
Lin Hui ignored him completely, grabbed his arm, and pulled him to a secluded corner.
She impatiently threw Yi Kangle against the wall and immediately launched into a tirade of angry rebukes: "Why are you so disobedient!"
Yi Kangle was stunned by her appearance and froze on the spot, not daring to move.
Lin Hui glanced behind her, and although she lowered her voice, her words were still full of anger.
"Have I told you before? If you don't behave and don't get Grandma's favor, Daddy won't want you anymore! When that happens, if you don't have a daddy, Mommy will send you to an orphanage, and you'll never see Mommy again!"
Upon hearing the words "orphanage," Yi Kangle's pupils constricted, and his eyes immediately filled with a misty haze.
Lin Hui looked impatiently at the tears welling up in his eyes, pointed at his face, and said irritably, "Hold it back, don't cry."
Mothers don't like children who cry a lot.
Yi Kangle silently murmured to himself, forcing back his tears as he sobbed.
Lin Hui glared at him coldly and warned again, "If you don't behave well from now on, then Mommy will have the police take you away and abandon you!"
She threw down those harsh words, turned around, and left.
Yi Kangle was left huddled in place, her little face filled with helplessness.
"Mommy...don't abandon Xiaobao, Xiaobao...be good."
Lin Hui couldn't hear his whispered pleas.
The atmosphere between the mother and son in the study was hardly pleasant either.
"Xiao Bao is four years old now, and it's time to settle your marriage with Lin Hui. I'll pick a good day to hold your engagement ceremony."
This was not a statement of discussion, but rather a notification.
"I will not marry her."
Yi An spoke decisively and resolutely.
Meng Jie looked up at him intently, "Then who do you want to marry?"
"I want to marry..."
Before she could finish speaking, there was a knock on the door, and Wu Fen pushed the door open and walked in.
She glanced deliberately in Yi An's direction before saying to Meng Jie, "Madam, Master has returned."
When Yi'an heard this, she was taken aback for a moment, but then she regained her composure.
"Prepare tableware for one more person," Meng Jie instructed calmly.
Wu Fen responded and left. Just as she reached the bottom of the stairs, she saw Yi Ruihua loosening his tie and preparing to come up.
"master."
She greeted him respectfully.
Yi Ruihua glanced at her and said, "Get me some clothes ready. I'll change and then I'll leave."
He had barely finished speaking when Meng Jie's voice rang out.
"Where are we going?"
"Didn't we already agree on this..."
The moment Yi Ruihua looked up and saw Lin Hui, the words caught in her throat.
He forced a calm smile. "Lin Hui is here. Where's Xiao Bao?"
Lin Hui's gaze swept back and forth between him and Meng Jie, as if trying to discern some clue from the two, but ultimately failed.
She smiled and replied, "I'm playing upstairs."
Yi Ruihua nodded in agreement, then turned his gaze to Yi An beside him.
Is Yi An busy with work?
Yi An ignored him completely, strode past him, and gave instructions to Wu Fen.
When will Aunt Wu's meal be ready?
Seeing the awkward atmosphere, Wu Fen quickly replied, "It'll be ready soon, it'll be ready soon."
Yi Ruihua no longer mentioned changing her clothes or being in a hurry to leave, but silently sat down at the dining table with everyone.
Wu Fen brought out the last soup and said to Meng Jie, "Madam, all the dishes are ready."
"Okay," Meng Jie replied casually. "Let's eat."
The only sounds at the dining table were the chopsticks picking up food and the clinking of chopsticks against the bowl.
Seeing the slightly awkward atmosphere, Lin Hui took the initiative to speak and ease the tension.
"Something interesting happened at Xiaobao's kindergarten recently."
She turned to Yi Kangle and said, "Xiao Bao, tell Grandma, Grandpa, and Dad about it."
Yi Kangle was focused on eating his meal and didn't dare to refuse Lin Hui's request.
Just as he was about to speak, a cell phone rang suddenly.
Everyone looked toward the source of the sound.
Yi Ruihua paused for a moment, then slowly took his phone out of his pocket. He glanced at the name flashing on the screen, hesitated for a second, and then pressed the reject button.
"Xiao Bao, continue. Grandpa is listening."
He spoke to Yi Kangle with a kind and gentle expression.
Yi Kangle was greatly encouraged, "Our kindergarten..."
But he only managed to utter those few words before being interrupted by a cell phone ringing.
Yi Ruihua looked a little agitated. This time, without hesitation, he pressed the reject button.
But the other party seemed unwilling to give up easily, dialing again and again.
In the end, Yi Ruihua was at her wit's end, filled with helplessness, and cautiously looked at Meng Jie beside her.
"Should I answer this call?"
He had barely finished speaking when he quickly added, "It was an old friend calling; I guess it's something urgent."
Meng Jie, however, acted as if she hadn't heard anything, and continued to eat her meal elegantly with her head down.
Yi Ruihua stood there awkwardly, unsure whether to get up or sit down, while her phone continued to ring incessantly.
Finally, Yi'an spoke up: "If it's urgent, then leave."
Yi Ruihua felt as if she had been granted a pardon. She glanced gratefully at Yi An, got up to pack her things, and hurriedly left the house.
Lin Hui was a little surprised by his sudden departure. She turned to look at Meng Jie, but saw that she had no reaction and seemed not to have heard anything.
Lin Hui wisely kept quiet and stopped trying to play any tricks, silently eating the rice in her bowl.
After dinner, a sudden downpour began outside.
Lin Hui looked out the window at the heavy rain falling like jade pillars, her face full of worry.
"How are we going to get home in this heavy rain?"
Meng Jie was sitting on the sofa sipping tea when she heard this and said, "No need to go back, stay for the night, it's not like there aren't any rooms available."
