Chapter 345 How did you provoke him?

Yi An couldn't help but defend Su Yan: "Perhaps there's some misunderstanding between the father and daughter that outsiders don't know about."

The nurse immediately interrupted him, "What kind of misunderstanding could there be between a father and daughter that they would even lose their own father? It's unbelievable!"

She blurted out her words, but seeing that Yi An's expression wasn't good, she quickly softened her voice and added, "If it's really as you say, then this father is indeed very unfit."

No matter what she said, Yi'an couldn't muster any enthusiasm; a thick fog had gathered in her mind, and she couldn't figure it out no matter what she said.

The nurse came out of the nurses' station and directed Yi An to the ward.

As Yi An walked, she tentatively asked, "What illness caused Su Xuehai to suddenly faint?"

"A cerebral hemorrhage is quite common at his age," the nurse explained simply. "But he's in a bit of trouble; the hemorrhage has caused Alzheimer's disease."

"Alzheimer's disease?!" Yi An exclaimed in surprise, then asked urgently, "Can a cerebral hemorrhage cause Alzheimer's disease?"

The nurse was somewhat surprised by his strong reaction, but still explained gently, "The dementia caused by cerebral hemorrhage is different in nature from Alzheimer's disease in the traditional sense. This is vascular dementia. The local necrosis of brain tissue caused by cerebral hemorrhage leads to cognitive impairment in patients."

As Yi'an listened to her explanation, her heart sank deeper and deeper.

If Su Xuehai has Alzheimer's disease, how can he learn about Su Yan's past from Su Xuehai?

Is there any possibility of recovery?

He held a sliver of hope.

The nurse thought carefully for a moment, then said with a complicated expression, "If the patient doesn't experience any more cerebrovascular diseases, the dementia will be stable. With long-term effective treatment, the condition can be alleviated. However, a complete cure is still quite difficult."

As the two were talking, they arrived at Su Xuehai's hospital room.

The nurse pushed open the door and stepped aside, saying, "This is it."

Yi An turned her head to look into the ward and could only see a thin, frail figure from behind.

"He's not in a good state right now, so watch your words and actions and make sure you don't upset him."

Only after repeated reminders from the nurses did Yi'an tentatively begin to venture into the ward.

As he got closer, he could see more clearly Su Xuehai's gaunt profile.

When Yi An reached Su Xuehai's side, Su Xuehai seemed to be a beat behind, slowly turning his head. His cloudy gaze lingered on Yi An's face, his eyes filled with confusion.

When Yi An met his gaze, her hand trembled uncontrollably.

"Hello, Uncle, my name is Yi An."

Yi An bent down and introduced herself to him softly.

Su Xuehai still looked confused, and the scrutinizing gaze lingered on his face.

Yi An clearly sensed the severity of his dementia, and her brows furrowed slightly.

He asked tentatively, with a sense of relief, "Uncle, do you still know Su Yan?"

"ah?"

Su Xuehai gave a mumbled reply, the confusion on his face not fading at all.

Yi An patiently raised his voice again and repeated, "Su Yan! Uncle, do you still remember Su Yan? Your daughter!"

At first, Su Xuehai was still in a daze as always, but the moment Yi An uttered the words "daughter," Su Xuehai's gaze suddenly stopped, gradually converging into a single point.

Seeing that he finally reacted, Yi'an forgot her joy and hurriedly asked, "Uncle, I want to know about your daughter's past. What happened to her that made her like this? Is she...?"

Before he could finish his question, Su Xuehai suddenly began to convulse.

Yi An was so frightened that she swallowed her words and looked at him in horror, seeing an indescribable emotion in his eyes.

It's not exactly hatred, nor is it exactly resentment; it's just a rather unpleasant emotion.

Su Xuehai gasped for breath, his voice trembling as he called out, "Su... Yan... Su Yan..."

Yi An was terrified and dared not delay any longer. She rushed to the door and called for a nurse.

"Oh no! He seems to have had another attack!"

The nurse rushed over and, seeing Su Xuehai's terrible condition, helped him onto the bed while grumbling and shooing Yi An away.

"Didn't I already tell you? He's not doing well right now, so don't say anything that might upset him!"

The nurse frantically tried to control Su Xuehai's condition, but found she couldn't manage it at all. Su Xuehai's condition visibly worsened, and even his face turned ashen.

The nurse was also terrified. "What did you say to him?! How did you manage to upset him like this?!"

Yi'an tried to explain, but the nurse didn't have time to listen. She pushed Yi'an out and then frantically called the doctor on duty.

Yi An stood helplessly at the door, watching the doctor resuscitate Su Xuehai on the hospital bed.

From his angle, he could still clearly see the name that Su Xuehai kept repeating.

Su Yan.

Zhao Bo was busy playing on his phone when he looked up and saw Yi An walking out of the hospital looking lost and dejected.

He opened the car door and hurried to meet him.

"How come you're out so quickly? It went so smoothly! What did you find out?"

Faced with his urgent question, Yi'an sighed with a worried expression.

"We didn't get anything out of him, and we even made the old man sick."

"He had a relapse?!" Zhao Bo was stunned. After a moment, he asked with a face full of doubt, "What inappropriate questions did you ask? They made him so angry."

Yi An himself was confused; what had he asked that he shouldn't have?

"I didn't have time to ask anything, I just mentioned his daughter Su Yan's name, and that's how he ended up."

Zhao Bo was deeply astonished. "Just how deep is the hatred between this father and daughter? One refuses to see her even in death, while the other gets so angry just hearing her name that she falls ill."

Yi An also had a solemn expression, pondering the question in silence.

Seeing his dejected look, Zhao Bo quickly comforted him, "Since we can't get the answer from Su Xuehai, why don't we ask Su Yan instead? That would be a more direct and clearer way to ask."

Yi An: "Do you think I don't want to? Su Yan is completely out of contact right now. I can't even get through to her on the phone, let alone meet her to ask her anything."

Zhao Bo patted his chest and stopped the matter.

"Look at me! You can watch this!"

As he spoke, he turned to his car, took out his phone, pulled up Su Yan's number, and dialed it without thinking.

"Hello, Su Yan, it's me."

"I suddenly have something I'd like to ask you for help with."

"It's my dad. He's been talking about Xiaoyu a lot these past few days, insisting that I take her home. It's driving me crazy. I just wanted to ask you if I could take Xiaoyu and Xiaobao with me for one night."
