The battle lasted for half an hour. The Beixiang Kingdom's defending forces were outnumbered and were eventually annihilated.
The valley was littered with corpses and burning provisions.
The owl stood high in the valley, watching the raging fire, and nodded in satisfaction.
He turned to the vice-captain beside him and said:
"Take stock of the spoils of war and confirm whether all the grain and supplies have been burned."
"yes!"
The deputy captain accepted the order and left with several soldiers to begin clearing the battlefield.
Shortly after, the vice-captain returned and reported to Night Owl:
"Captain, all the grain and supplies have been burned, nothing was left behind."
Night Owl nodded in satisfaction and gave the order:
"withdraw!"
The special forces soldiers quickly assembled and left the valley silently.
They disappeared into the night just as they had come.
All that remained were towering flames and corpses strewn across the ground.
...
at the same time.
Meanwhile, Mu Qing was unaware that the short, stout general's 30,000-strong army had not even approached Shannan Prefecture.
They were ambushed by Zhang Xun halfway there, unaware that all the supplies at their rear had been destroyed.
He proceeded with the original plan and issued the order to launch a full-scale attack on Jianmen Pass.
Outside Jianmen Pass, war drums thundered.
The Northern Xiang Kingdom's army launched another fierce attack on Jianmen Pass.
The shouts of battle were deafening, and the air was thick with the smoke of gunpowder.
Mu Qing stared intently at the city wall, his eyes bloodshot.
"Attack! Attack fiercely for this general! Flatten Jianmen Pass!"
The soldiers of the Northern Xiang Kingdom who were attacking the city fell like waves of wheat, yet they continued to rush forward like moths to a flame.
A soldier carrying a siege ladder had just rushed to the foot of the city wall.
A thunderbolt exploded above his head, instantly tearing him to pieces.
Limbs and severed bodies flew everywhere, staining the city walls red.
It also stained the faces of the other soldiers climbing the ladder red.
Fear spread in their eyes, but was replaced by a frenzied killing intent.
They roared and howled as they climbed upwards, stepping over the corpses of their companions.
On the other side, a strong and sturdy soldier from the Northern Xiang Kingdom carried a battering ram and rammed it against the city gate.
The city gate groaned in pain, splinters of wood flying everywhere.
The soldiers defending the city poured oil canisters down the city walls.
The oil flowed down the battering ram and onto the soldiers.
A fireball flew down from the city wall and instantly ignited the oil.
The soldier turned into a human torch, letting out a piercing scream.
He ran frantically through the crowd and eventually collapsed.
On the city wall, the defending soldiers fought a bloody battle.
They pierced the enemy's chest with spears and smashed them into a bloody pulp with rolling logs.
They poured boiling oil on the enemy, scalding them until their skin was torn and bleeding.
A young soldier was hit in the eye by a stray arrow.
He screamed in agony, clutching his bleeding eye socket as he collapsed.
Upon seeing this, another soldier roared in anger.
He hurled his long sword, striking an enemy general who was climbing a ladder in the throat.
Lu Yan, who was inside the pass, watched this scene through his binoculars, but he appeared unusually calm.
He knew that Mu Qing was making a desperate last-ditch effort.
"Musketeers, fire freely! Focus on those idiots carrying ladders!"
A barrage of gunfire erupted, flames leaped, and smoke filled the air.
Soldiers of the Northern Xiang Kingdom fell in droves, their screams echoing incessantly.
The traps and obstacles set by Lu Yan also played a significant role.
The barricades, caltrops, and pitfalls inflicted heavy losses on the Northern Xiang Kingdom's army, thwarting their attacks time and again.
"Damn it! This Lu Yan is really weird!"
Mu Qing couldn't help but curse.
He had not expected that the defenses of Jianmen Pass would be so strong, and that his army had been unable to breach it despite a prolonged siege.
Just then, the scout sent out by the mustachioed general returned to the camp and reported the results of his investigation.
"General! Good news! We've found a shortcut that can take us around to the rear of Jianmen Pass!"
The scout knelt on one knee and respectfully reported.
Mu Qing's eyes lit up, and he grabbed the scout's collar.
"Is this true? Where?"
The scout pointed to a location on the map and stammered:
"Right...right here, on a...very secluded path."
Mu Qing was overjoyed and immediately gave the order:
"Pass down the order: split the troops into two groups!"
"Continue the assault on Jianmen Pass to draw the defenders' attention!"
"The other route will be led by General Hu, with elite troops taking a shortcut to the rear of the pass and launching a surprise attack!"
"Attack from both inside and outside, and take Jianmen Pass in one fell swoop!"
The general with the mustache, beaming with pride, accepted his orders and left.
He seemed to see the dawn of victory, fantasizing about breaking through Jianmen Pass.
The scene of capturing Lu Yan alive and then seeking credit and rewards from Mu Qing.
However, he never dreamed of this.
This "hidden" path was a death trap that Lu Yan had prepared for him.
Li Kui and his band of sword-wielding soldiers were lying in ambush on a secluded path behind Jianmen Pass.
They hid in the dense bushes, each holding their breath, their broadswords gleaming coldly.
Like a pack of cheetahs lurking in the darkness, waiting for their prey to enter their encirclement.
"Xiao Kui, are you all ready?"
Lu Yan's voice came from a specially made megaphone.
"Don't worry, sir, the brothers have been waiting impatiently!"
"We're just waiting for these scum from Beixiang to come knocking on our door!"
Li Kui's voice was filled with bloodthirsty excitement.
"Remember, don't linger in the battle; finish it quickly."
"Wait until they are all inside the encirclement before making your move. Don't let a single one escape!"
Lu Yan's voice remained calm, as if he were arranging a trivial matter.
