The mountain road was rugged, and the musketeers of Shannan Prefecture were advancing slowly.
Lu Fei, mounted on his horse, scanned his surroundings warily, a sense of foreboding creeping into his heart.
"Stop!"
He suddenly pulled on the reins and raised his right hand.
The column immediately stopped advancing.
The soldiers gripped their muskets tightly, watching their surroundings warily.
“There’s a murderous aura!” Lu Fei said in a low voice.
No sooner had he finished speaking than a hail of arrows shot out from the dense forest.
The closest soldiers were unable to dodge in time and fell to the ground, struck by arrows.
"Enemy attack! Prepare for battle!"
Lu Fei shouted loudly.
The musketeer battalion soldiers quickly lined up, raised their muskets, and aimed them at the dense forest.
"Bang bang bang!"
A series of gunshots rang out, smoke filled the air, and screams echoed from the dense forest.
The assassins in black clearly hadn't expected the muskets to be so powerful.
Caught off guard, the casualties were heavy.
"Charge out!"
Lu Fei gave the order again.
The musketeer battalion soldiers charged into the dense forest like tigers descending a mountain, amidst the billowing smoke and flickering flames.
A soldier dodged the oncoming scimitar and, with a backhand shot, knocked the assassin to the ground.
The other soldier was not so lucky and was approached by the assassin.
The sharp blade sliced through his arm, and blood splattered.
He gritted his teeth, endured the excruciating pain, and raised the musket with his other hand.
With a bang, the assassin was killed.
The battle was extremely fierce, with the roar of muskets and the clash of swords.
The soldiers' roars and the assassins' screams mingled together, creating a deafening roar.
A young soldier was surrounded by several assassins, and he struggled to defend himself, facing constant danger.
At the critical moment, Lu Fei arrived on horseback.
His long sword flashed like lightning, slaying the attacking assassins one by one.
Just then, a burly assassin brandishing a giant axe charged at Lu Fei.
Upon noticing the danger, Lu Fei calmly raised his gun and fired, but to his surprise, the assassin blocked the bullet with his giant axe.
Sparks flew as the giant axe was deflected by the bullets, but the assassin remained unharmed.
He roared and charged at Lu Fei again.
Lu Fei discarded his gun and drew his sword, engaging the assassin in close combat.
Amidst the flashing blades and the clash of swords, the two engaged in a fierce battle, exchanging blows.
The assassin's giant axe was powerful and heavy, while Lu Fei's longsword was flexible and versatile.
He dodged the assassin's slashes, seized the opportunity, and stabbed the assassin in the abdomen.
The assassin screamed and fell to the ground.
Lu Fei wiped the sweat from his face and looked around.
The battle continued, but the musketeer battalion soldiers had gradually gained the upper hand.
Seeing this, the surviving black-clad assassins did not retreat; instead, they charged forward even more frantically.
His eyes gleamed with a bloodthirsty light as he attempted close-quarters combat, making a final desperate stand.
They knew they had no chance of winning in a long-range musket duel.
Only by getting close might there be a glimmer of hope.
"Change to bayonets!"
Lu Fei gave the order again, his voice still clear and powerful amidst the gunfire.
The soldiers quickly attached gleaming bayonets to their gun barrels.
Reflecting a chilling light under the sunlight, they form an ironclad defense line.
The sharp blade sliced through the air, sending chills down their spines.
The assassins who rushed forward were pierced by bayonets like moths to a flame.
Blood gushed out, staining the ground red.
Some assassins were stabbed through the chest with bayonets, groaning in pain.
Some were slashed away by bayonets, crashed heavily to the ground, twitched a few times, and then fell silent.
Lu Fei took the lead, his long sword flashing up and down.
Like the scythe of death, it reaps the lives of its enemies.
He was ruthless and merciless, each strike aimed at vital points, each move potentially fatal.
He led from the front, displaying bravery and fearlessness, which inspired the soldiers' fighting spirit.
The battle lasted for half an hour, and the black-clad assassins were eventually wiped out.
The battlefield was littered with corpses and rivers of blood.
Although the musketeer battalion soldiers achieved victory.
However, this came at a considerable cost, with many soldiers bearing injuries.
"A bunch of useless trash, how dare you block my Shannan Prefecture's army!"
The smoke of battle has cleared, and the mountain wind howls.
Lu Fei spat out the blood and saliva in his mouth.
Beneath my feet lay the haphazard corpses of black-clad assassins.
He roughly counted the number of people, his brow furrowed.
Although these assassins were not skilled in martial arts, they were all fearless and clearly had received special training.
That old scoundrel Liu An really went all out.
"Damn it, that old bastard is really cunning."
Lu Fei cursed and kicked over a corpse next to him.
"We almost capsized in the gutter."
He walked over to a carriage and lifted the tarpaulin.
After carefully inspecting the muskets inside and confirming that they were intact, he breathed a sigh of relief.
These muskets are the culmination of Lord Lu's hard work; if anything goes wrong, Lu Fei will be held responsible to the death.
"Immediately send someone back to Shannan Prefecture to report the attack and request reinforcements!"
Lu Fei gave the order to his adjutant beside him.
"Also, change the route, everyone be on your guard, don't fall for any more tricks!"
The adjutant accepted the order and left, but Lu Fei, watching the departing figure, still felt uneasy.
This attack was suspicious. What exactly did Liu An want to do?
Was it just to stop the delivery of muskets?
He always felt that things weren't that simple.
The capital city, Liu An's residence.
"Useless! A bunch of useless trash!"
Liu An flew into a rage and smashed the teacup in his hand on the ground, shards flying everywhere.
"So many people, yet they couldn't even stop a cargo convoy!"
