Chapter Fifty-Eight is no match for Lu Yan



Suddenly, a patrol of soldiers turned around the street corner.

The leader, dressed in official robes, exuded an air of grandeur; it was none other than Lu Yan.

Behind him followed a burly man, none other than Li Kui.

"Sir, don't you think this curfew is a bit too early?"

"The streets are still so lively."

Li Kui complained as he walked.

"Early my foot! This is called prevention! What do you know, kid?"

Lu Yan glared at him, annoyed.

"If something really happens, can you take responsibility?"

"Hehe, you're right, sir."

Li Kui scratched his head and dared not utter another word.

Chen Qingwan was overwhelmed with mixed feelings as she looked at the scene before her.

That corrupt official is different now that he's become the prefect; he didn't even recognize me!

She had previously disguised herself as a businesswoman to negotiate a collaboration with Lu Yan.

Although the two were not close, they had met a few times.

Now, however, he walked past her as if he didn't recognize her at all.

Back at the inn, Chen Qingwan tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep.

Lu Yan's image kept appearing in her mind, along with the people's praise for him.

She suddenly realized that her understanding of Lu Yan might still be based on her initial impression.

The next morning, Chen Qingwan got up early and changed into a formal outfit.

She looked at herself in the mirror, her eyes resolute:

"Qiao'er, come with me to the government office!"

Qiao'er quickly replied:

"Yes, Your Majesty!"

Inside the government office.

"My lord, do you think His Majesty will choose you when he selects men for the imperial concubine selection?"

Li Kui asked curiously as he plucked the chicken feathers.

"Choose me? I'm not going!"

Lu Yan curled his lip, looking disdainful.
