"Release them!" Lu Yan commanded.
Flames soared into the sky from the city walls, and smoke filled the air.
A dense hail of bullets rained down on the attacking Nanman soldiers like locusts, their screams echoing throughout the city.
"Ready the crossbows! Fire!"
Crossbow bolts pierced the air, reaping the lives of the enemy.
Beneath the city walls, corpses piled up like mountains, and blood flowed like rivers.
"It's time for these bastards to try out this new gadget!"
Lu Yan smiled sinisterly, picked up a ceramic pot, and said, "Light it!"
As the torch lit the fuse, Lu Yan forcefully threw the pottery jar down.
"Boom!" A loud noise.
Flames shot into the sky, and the shockwave from the explosion blasted away the surrounding barbarian soldiers, scattering limbs and severed bodies all over the ground.
Upon seeing this, the barbarian general flew into a rage.
"Damn it! Break down the city gate for me!"
He commanded the mammoths, which, like a moving mountain, pounded wildly against the city gate.
The city gate creaked under the weight of the weight, as if it might collapse at any moment.
Inside Shannan County.
The shelter that Lu Yan had designed long ago was crowded with the elderly, women, and children.
Chen Qingwan and Qiao'er were among them.
Looking at the panicked people, Qiao'er asked worriedly:
"Your Majesty...Miss, when do you think this war will end? Can Lu Yan really hold Shannan County?"
Chen Qingwan didn't speak, but stared intently at the entrance of the shelter, feeling uneasy.
Qiao'er continued reciting:
"Those barbarians, they're all burly and strong, they're terrifying to look at..."
Before he could finish speaking, the surrounding people all laughed.
An old farmer said:
"Girl, you must be from out of town. In our Shannan County, barbarians are nothing! They're only worth a little more than pigs, enough to exchange for a couple of coins."
Another older woman also said with a smile:
"Indeed! Our Lord Lu is a god descended from heaven!"
"If he hadn't been so focused on developing Shannan County, he would have wiped out all those barbarians long ago!"
Qiao'er listened, completely bewildered.
In the capital, the mere mention of "barbarians" sends shivers down everyone's spine.
Why is it that when we arrived in Shannan County, everyone acted like nothing was wrong, even eating sunflower seeds and chatting about the barbarians?
A little kid asked in a childish voice:
"Sister Qiao'er, do you think those barbarians might chew up Lord Lu and swallow him whole?"
The old man next to him laughed so hard his beard flew up, and tapped the little boy on the head with his palm-leaf fan:
"You little brat, barbarians don't eat people, they only eat pigs! Lord Lu is a peerless hero!"
"One punch at a time, I beat those bastards until they were crawling on the ground, crying and begging to go home to their mothers!"
Qiao'er was completely dumbfounded.
The people of Shannan County have way too much faith in Lu Yan, don't they?
On the city wall, under the continuous ramming of mammoths, the city gate finally could not withstand the pressure and collapsed with a crash.
"Cavalry battalion, attack!"
At Lu Yan's command, he led the cavalry battalion out of the city gate like an arrow released from a bow.
Before the southern barbarian army outside the city could react, they were divided and surrounded by the cavalry battalion.
"Musketeer battalion, crossbow battalion, get off the city wall and join the battle!"
The long-range attacks of muskets and crossbows, combined with the close combat of the cavalry, routed the Nanman army.
The barbarian general rode a mammoth, charging left and right through the chaotic army.
However, they were unable to break through the cavalry's encirclement.
Lu Yan rode his warhorse, wielding a long spear, and engaged in a fierce battle with the barbarian general.
"You bastard! Today is your death day!"
Lu Yan roared, his spear like a dragon, thrusting straight for the barbarian general's throat.
The barbarian general swung his spiked club, barely managing to block Lu Yan's attack.
"Your grandpa is Lu Yan! Come down here and fight me one-on-one if you dare!"
Lu Yan said provocatively.
Enraged, the barbarian general leaped off the mammoth.
He brandished his spiked club and lunged at Lu Yan.
Lu Yan sneered, turned his horse around, and retreated while fighting.
The barbarian general pursued relentlessly, but unknowingly walked into a trap set by Lu Yan.
"Release the arrows!"
With Lu Yan's command.
Archers lying in ambush all around unleashed a volley of arrows, turning the barbarian general into a pincushion.
The barbarian general fell to the ground and died, and the southern barbarian army completely collapsed and fled in all directions.
As the smoke cleared, the stench of blood filled the air.
Lu Yan reined in his horse and stopped, surveying the battlefield.
The ground was littered with the corpses of the southern barbarian soldiers, and tattered banners and weapons were scattered everywhere.
Meanwhile, their own soldiers were cleaning up the battlefield and treating the wounded.
Although some were wounded, the number of casualties was negligible compared to that of the Nanman army.
...
Inside the shelter, there were several burly middle-aged women holding children.
He was vividly describing how Lord Lu tore the barbarians apart with his bare hands.
"That barbarian, as big as a small mountain, charged at us while howling, wielding a spiked club!"
"Guess what? Our Lord Lu didn't even lift an eyelid, he just kicked that barbarian away with one kick!"
"It flew really high, like a cannonball!"
The middle-aged woman was spitting everywhere, leaving those around her stunned.
Qiao'er couldn't help but roll her eyes and muttered under her breath:
"This is such an outrageous claim! Lord Lu isn't a god..."
Although Chen Qingwan didn't say anything, she was also filled with doubts.
She had met Lu Yan before, and although he seemed quite shrewd.
But she really didn't believe that he could kick a "mountain-sized" barbarian away with one kick.
Just then, the shelter door creaked open.
A soldier covered in blood stumbled in, shouting excitedly:
"We won! We won!"
The shelter erupted in cheers and screams.
Qiao'er and Chen Qingwan exchanged a glance, both seeing shock in each other's eyes.
