Chapter Thirty-One: I'm Playing Dead!

"Damn, that felt great! These barbarians, they're usually so arrogant!"

Now they're being chased around like pigs!

"I'll take my men right now and chase after that old dog, Arba, and chop off his head to use as a chamber pot!"

With a wave of his hand, he was about to lead the musketeer battalion to continue the pursuit.

Upon seeing this, Zhang Xun quickly spurred his horse to stop him.

"Hey Lu Laosan, what's the rush?"

Don't you understand the principle of not pursuing a cornered enemy?

Let's take a headcount of the prisoners of war first, and let the brothers catch their breath before we talk about anything else!

Lu Fei was displeased upon hearing this.

"What rest?

What if that old bastard gets away?

"I've finally got this opportunity to make a name for myself..."

Before he could finish speaking, Han Sheng strolled over leisurely.

He was also holding a charred leg of lamb in his hand, gnawing on it with his mouth dripping with oil.

"I'm telling you two, shut up."

That old bastard Aribana, he can't escape even if he had wings.

Our special forces in Shannan County are no pushovers; they've been chasing us for a while now.

Don't worry, that old bastard's head is definitely not going anywhere.

Lu Fei was stunned for a moment, then suddenly realized.

"Oh yeah, how could I forget about them! Hehe, this is going to be interesting."

Zhang Xun glared at him.

"Alright, stop grinning like an idiot."

The order was given to rest on the spot, take inventory of prisoners of war, and treat the wounded.

This battle went way too smoothly; it's making me incredibly uneasy.

Han Sheng casually tossed aside the lamb leg that had been gnawed down to the bone and patted Zhang Xun on the shoulder.

"Old Zhang, you're being too cautious."

This time we had the advantage of timing, location, and popular support; a night raid is the best tactic for winning with fewer troops.

With our superior firearms, how could the barbarians possibly stand a chance?

This is called military strategy, do you understand?

Zhang Xun snorted.

"Military strategy? I think all you know is eating! Get to work and stop spouting off your literary nonsense."

Han Sheng chuckled and turned to arrange the aftermath.

Lu Fei then leaned closer to Zhang Xun, winking and saying:

"Old Zhang, do you think this old rascal Arba might be scared out of his wits by us?"

"If he kneels down and begs for mercy, should we...?"

Zhang Xun slapped him on the head.

"Beg for mercy? Dream on! That old bastard is ruthless, how could he possibly surrender so easily?"

"I bet he's hiding in that rat hole right now, trembling with fear."

...

On the other side, Arba fled in a sorry state.

The magnificent mink cloak she wore was nowhere to be found.

The golden crown on his head was also crooked, making him look like a drunken beggar.

As he ran, he kept looking back, afraid that pursuers from Shannan County might suddenly appear.

"Damn it, where did these bastards from Shannan County come from?"

"How come I've never heard of such a powerful army before?"

Arba cursed breathlessly, his heart filled with shock and fear.

When has he, the king of a barbarian tribe, ever suffered such humiliation?

For decades, Arba roamed the grasslands, committing arson, murder, looting, and all sorts of atrocities.

I never expected that I would be defeated by this small Shannan County today.

"Your Majesty, it's terrible! The pursuers from Shannan County have caught up with us!"

One of the guards cried out in alarm.

Arba looked back.

A dozen soldiers dressed in black, close-fitting clothes, were seen riding fast horses toward them.

These soldiers all had stern faces and sharp eyes; they were clearly not to be trifled with.

"What should we do? Your Majesty, let's fight them!"

Another guard drew his scimitar and said through gritted teeth.

Arba slapped him on the head.

"Fight my ass! Didn't you see the weapons they're carrying?"

"That's a fire-breathing thing! Our swords are no match for it!"

His eyes lit up, and an idea came to him.

"I'll play dead! We'll wait until they get close, then..."

Before Arba could finish speaking, a bullet whizzed past his ear.

He was so frightened that he sat down on the ground with a thud.

"Your Majesty, stop pretending! They've already seen through our scheme!"

The guard said with a mournful face.

Arba sighed helplessly.

"Enough, enough, let's surrender! As long as we're alive, we can always fight another day!"

He raised his hands tremblingly and shouted to the special forces soldiers in Shannan County:

"Don't fire! We surrender!"

The special forces soldiers reined in their horses and surrounded Arba and his men.

The leader, a special forces soldier nicknamed Night Owl, was burly with a full beard and looked menacing.

"Arba, you've finally met your match! Tell me honestly, what other schemes and tricks does your barbarian tribe have up its sleeve?"

"Night Owl asked menacingly."

Arba put on a pitiful look.

"Hero, spare our lives! We barbarians have already lost, and we will never dare to oppose Shannan County again."

“I am willing to lead my people to submit to Lu Yan, and from now on live a law-abiding life.”

Night Owl sneered.

"You think we'd believe your nonsense?"

"You barbarians are treacherous and cunning. Who knows what you're plotting?"

Arba quickly swore an oath.

"Everything I said is true! If I dare to utter even a single lie, may I be struck by lightning and die a horrible death!"

Night Owl narrowed his eyes, looking Arba up and down, seemingly considering how much truth there was in his words.

"Your Majesty, are we really going to surrender?"

One of the guards asked in a low voice.

Arba secretly glared at him and muttered under his breath:
