Chapter 102 The Long Road to Chasing My Wife

Chapter 102 The Long Road to Chasing My Wife

Chen Ran slowly parked the car in the underground garage, and Su Nian led her mother and stepfather upstairs.

This was the mother's first time setting foot in her daughter's home. As she pushed the door open and walked in, she couldn't help but take a closer look at this spacious, bright, and elegantly decorated new home. Her eyes were filled with satisfaction, but also with a hint of emotion: "That's great! Seeing you living such a comfortable life makes me feel at ease."

As she spoke, she gestured for Chen Ran to put the heavy fruit basket in his hand onto the kitchen counter. "These are all sent by your Uncle Chen. They look like your favorites..."

"Thank you, Uncle Chen!" Su Nian handed the freshly poured water to his stepfather, his tone full of gratitude.

Chen Ran put down the fruit and glanced around the house. It was just okay. Going up and down the stairs while pregnant was so inconvenient! His precious daughter deserved a better house.

I already have an idea in my mind: I have to buy another apartment for my daughter. It would be best if she can move there. Even if not, if she is wronged, the child will have a safe way out.

"Where is Si Yan?" he asked with a frown.

"He usually sees patients at Jishiditang on Saturdays." Su Hong brought out two plates of washed and cut fruit from the kitchen and put the rest in the refrigerator. "Didn't I tell you? Si Yan teaches at the University of Traditional Chinese Medicine during the week, so he can only be with Nian Nian on Sundays. It's a good thing for young people to be ambitious."

Chen Ran didn't say anything on the surface, but he was furious inside: His wife is pregnant, and he doesn't even spend the weekend with her. How much do he need money?

When he got back, he discussed with Su Hong that he had to clarify his identity as soon as possible so that he could protect his daughter and grandson as their biological father.

They didn't sit for long and left after a while.

As soon as her mother left, Su Nian felt like she had found an outlet for the grievances in her heart. Looking at the empty house, she suddenly couldn't hold back her tears, which flowed down her cheeks.

She looked at the time and it was already four in the afternoon. She took a deep breath to comfort herself and then turned back to the studio.

Gradually, she put aside all distractions and immersed herself completely in her work. Just as inspiration was flowing, her cell phone rang and Su Nian picked it up.

"Niannian, where are you? Come back to the old house for dinner tonight, I'll pick you up." Si Yan's gentle voice came through the receiver.

"I've already been there at noon. My mother just delivered something to Jinghua Garden, so I came back. I won't go in the evening. You can go there by yourself." Su Nian's voice was laziness and lack of energy.

"Okay, then don't bother going back and forth. I'll be back early after dinner." Si Yan agreed, but he knew in his heart that his parents would probably use dinner as an excuse to ask about his junior sister Lu Jing in the morning.

When he talked about this, he felt very wronged.

When Lu Jing was studying acupuncture with Professor Huang, she was indeed a fellow student, but they were not close friends. She had gone abroad a few years ago, and he had almost forgotten about her. Who knew that she would now be hired by the Chinese Medical University as an instructor in acupuncture and massage?

Last Tuesday, she reported for work and chatted with him for a few minutes at the bottom of the office building. Somehow, her eyes became red and she cried for no apparent reason. If someone didn't know the situation, they might think he had bullied her. He was at a loss at the time and had no choice but to send her back.

It wasn't until Friday that he found out that she had joined his research group. In the evening, Ben had an appointment with his research group colleagues for a Western meal, but when he got there, he discovered that it was just him and Lu Jing.

It was no wonder he hadn't announced his marriage; he couldn't just tell everyone he was married. His colleagues probably assumed he was still single, and seeing this new junior sister, they were tempted to try to bring him together, which really left him feeling both amused and annoyed.

He had clearly told Lu Jing that he was married, but her expression clearly showed that she didn't believe it.

The next day, Lu Jing said that she had an upset stomach after having dinner with him the day before. He was in a dilemma: should he do something or not?

As a result, his mother Zhang Minghua happened to see the scene. Fortunately, his mother helped him out, and even if he was criticized for it when he returned to the old house, he accepted it.

In the old Si family residence, Si Guoqing was sternly scolding his son. Zhang Minghua beside him quietly pulled him and whispered a reminder: "When you get home, you must coax your wife well."

When Si Yan heard this, he couldn't even think about eating. Nian Nian was pregnant, what if she got angry and had a miscarriage?

Zhang Minghua had already packed the soup and food for her daughter-in-law and stuffed it into his hands - she didn't care whether her son was hungry or not.

Si Yan hurried back to Jinghua Garden. When he opened the door, Su Nian was still busy in the studio. She didn't even raise her head when she heard the noise.

"Take a break. Mom brought you some food. Eat it first and then get busy." He softened his voice.

"I've eaten, you can eat it yourself." Su Nian's voice was light and no emotion could be heard.

Si Yan listened, feeling even gloomier. It seemed she was truly angry. The air pressure was so low it could be used as air conditioning.

At this moment, he was a little at a loss, feeling like a primary school student who had done something wrong and standing at the door of the head teacher's office.

He walked to the dining table and opened the food box prepared by his mother. A rich aroma immediately wafted out - it was Su Nian's favorite yam and pork ribs soup.

He carefully arranged the food and poured a bowl of soup to let it cool. He walked to the door of Su Nian's studio and knocked gently.

"Niannian, Mom made your favorite soup and it's warming up now. Would you like to drink some first?" His voice was very soft and cautious, as if he was defusing a bomb.

The sound of the keyboard tapping paused for a moment, then sounded again. Su Nian's voice was calm and unwavering: "I already said I've eaten."

Si Yan stood outside the door, listening to the sound of keyboards coming back from inside, feeling heavy in his heart.

He ate a few bites and cleared the tableware. He looked at the closed door several times, but ultimately decided not to disturb her.

Alas, the road to pursuing his wife is long, Professor Si needs to work harder.

It was late at night, and Su Nian took a shower and went straight to bed. Si Yan finished washing up and quietly lay down beside her. The little girl had her back to him, her body slightly tense, obviously not asleep.

"Nian Nian," he said softly, his voice especially clear in the silent room, "I want to explain clearly to you about Lu Jing."

Su Nian didn't respond at all, and was so quiet as if she was asleep - if you ignore her straight back.

Si Yan took a deep breath and recounted the entire story, from Lu Jing's sudden appearance at the Chinese Medicine University, to the inexplicable dinner, to her claim of having a stomach upset only to be caught by her mother. He told her everything without reservation. He added, "I swear, I'm not familiar with her. If I were, I'd never be able to find the acupuncture point!"

Su Nian kept her back to him and didn't respond. Si Yan waited for a moment, then sighed softly, "Good night, Nian Nian."

As the night deepened, Si Yan looked at his wife's silent back, his heart filled with helplessness and pity. He knew that some knots in his heart took time to untie, and he was willing to wait.
