Chapter 104 Father's Love is Everywhere
Su Hong's fingertips trembled slightly from the warmth of his palm. She wanted to pull her hand back, but he held her hand even tighter.
The stubbornness and affection in those eyes were so scorching that she almost dared not look directly at them.
"You..." She opened her mouth, her voice a little hoarse, "You're already this old, and you're still saying these things..."
"What's wrong with age?" Chen Ran raised an eyebrow, his tone full of a sense of unwillingness to admit defeat. "The fire in my heart is much stronger than when I was in my twenties. I didn't have the chance to burn it before, but now I've finally found the firewood that can set the prairie on fire. How can I let it go out?"
This was a rough statement but it made sense. Su Hong's mouth curled up slightly at his teasing, but the moisture in her eyes grew even deeper.
She has been living alone with her daughter these years. It's not that she hasn't thought about having someone who understands her, but the trivialities of life have long shattered those thoughts.
Now Chen Ran suddenly appeared, like a ray of strong light that split the dull days, making her both panicked and unable to help but feel excited.
Su Hong looked at him holding her hand tightly, her eyes slightly warmed. She had never expected that after more than 20 years, God would send this man back to her.
Perhaps, everything is the best arrangement.
The next morning, Su Nian woke up in a warm embrace.
Oh my god! She clearly hasn't completely forgiven Si Yan yet, so why did they end up hugging each other again while sleeping? Her body is so unstable!
She was secretly shocked and wanted to quietly withdraw. She just moved slightly, but unexpectedly the sleeping person hugged her tighter. The strength was so unyielding that it was like the instinctive reaction when a beloved baby is about to be taken away.
The next second, Si Yan woke up, his sleepy eyes still misty. Seeing the person in his arms trying to get up, he reluctantly let go, a hint of reluctance hidden in his eyes.
"Awake?" His voice was hoarse from just waking up, as if it had been gently rubbed by sandpaper.
Su Nian didn't respond, but got out of bed and went to the bathroom. When she changed into her home clothes and came out, there was no one in the bedroom.
When she went downstairs, she saw Si Yan busy preparing breakfast in the kitchen, with pots and pans making a crackling sound.
She ignored me and walked straight into her studio, sat at her desk and opened her manuscript, pretending that the morning hug was just an illusion - as long as I wasn't embarrassed, breakfast would be embarrassing.
When Si Yan brought in breakfast, she didn't even raise her eyelids, but just made a soft "hmm" sound in her throat as a response.
The two of them ate and slept together as usual throughout the whole day, but Su Nian spoke very little, basically ending all conversations with a "hmm". He looked lazy and listless, like a cat that didn't get enough sun.
Monday just came in a dull manner.
But as soon as he stepped into the lobby of Chen Group, Su Nian seemed to have become a different person in an instant.
The previous listlessness was swept away, his eyes seemed to be filled with starlight, and his whole body was full of energy - as if a water-deficient plant suddenly welcomed a heavy rain, and its branches and leaves stretched out again.
Sure enough, work is Su Nian’s real body, and her husband and others are just background figures for now.
After all, work is Su Nian's blood and her source of energy.
Arriving at her workstation in the design department, Su Nian's work this week required her to go to the factory to make samples and plates. She was wondering how to get started and decided to ask Fang Xia, who was in the same group.
Fang Xia agreed immediately, saying that he also happened to be going to the factory to coordinate some matters. After the two of them reported to Director Lan, they prepared to go out together.
As he walked into the first floor lobby, he ran into Chen Ran, who was entering the company. He saw his daughter and a colleague going on a business trip. Upon asking, he learned that they were going to a factory in the suburbs. The old father's heart instantly jumped into his throat - his daughter was still pregnant, how could she travel so far?
He rolled his eyes and motioned for Su Nian to wait. He immediately called his assistant Fang Shuo to give him some instructions. After hanging up, he turned to Su Nian and said, "I also need to go to the factory. You two can go with me in the car to save us a lot of trouble."
——In fact, the “wherever my daughter goes, I go” follow-up mode has been activated.
Fang Xia was flattered. She glanced at Su Nian and felt that her expression was quite natural. She immediately realized that she was benefiting from Su Nian's help.
I thought to myself: Su Nian is married, so this Mr. Chen must be one of Su Nian’s elders, right?
Su Nian guessed that Uncle Chen must have considered himself when he went to the factory, so she stopped being pretentious. It wasn't the first time she rode in his car, so the two of them followed him obediently.
The car drove smoothly out of the city, and the high-rise buildings outside the window were gradually replaced by low factories and large tracts of green space.
Su Nian leaned against the window, watching the scenery rapidly recede. She'd always been a bit sleepy since she got pregnant, and with Si Yan's weekends away, she hadn't been particularly energetic. Now, in the quiet of the car, sleepiness crept up on her.
"Tired?" Chen Ran caught a glimpse of her slightly closed eyes in the rearview mirror and lowered his voice, "Lean back and take a nap. I'll call you when we get there." - The care of the old father (stepfather) is always so meticulous.
Su Nian hummed, adjusted himself to a comfortable position, and soon his breathing became even.
Fang Xia sat in the passenger seat and secretly glanced at Mr. Chen who was driving. He saw that he was looking at the sleeping Su Nian with soft eyes through the rearview mirror. The concern in his eyes could not be hidden. He became more and more certain of his previous guess. He tactfully did not say anything and just lowered his head to browse his phone - silence was better than words at this moment.
Chen Ran's gaze fell on his daughter's face. Seeing the faint dark circles under her eyes, his brows wrinkled slightly.
The car drove for more than an hour and finally arrived at a factory in the suburbs. Chen Ran slowly stopped the car, fearing that his daughter in the back seat might be feeling unwell.
Fang Xia patted Su Nian's shoulder gently, "Su Nian, we're here."
Su Nian opened his eyes drowsily, rubbed his temples, and calmed himself down before pushing open the car door.
Director Fang of the factory had already been waiting at the door. When he saw Chen Ran get out of the car, he hurried over to greet him: "Mr. Chen, you're finally here. Everything is ready here."
Chen Ran specifically introduced Su Nian to Director Fang: "This is Su Nian, a new designer in our design department. Please take care of her when she comes to the factory to make samples."
Such a great grace suddenly came, Su Nian could only be grateful, this is really fatherly love everywhere!
Director Fang knew everything and knew that the person brought by Director Chen personally must not be neglected, so he quickly agreed and said that he would definitely take care of him.
Chen Ran nodded, turned to Su Nian and Fang Xia and said, "Go and do your own things. Don't worry about me. Just wait for me at the door when you're done."
Fang Xia led Su Nian to the warehouse with familiarity. The factory was large, with workshops and warehouses scattered throughout. If Fang Xia hadn't been there several times before, Su Nian would have had to take many detours relying solely on a map.
"The jacquard cloth is in warehouse No. 3. I have to go to the office to get an order first." Fang Xia muttered briskly.
Su Nian smiled and thanked her, then went with her to the warehouse office. Fang Xia greeted the clerk familiarly, quickly filling out the receipt form, signing and stamping it in one go. The clerk noticed Su Nian and teased her about bringing in a new colleague. Fang Xia then complimented Su Nian's design skills and urged her to quickly stock up.
After receiving the fabric, the two of them headed to the pattern-making workshop. Fang Xia, familiar with the machines as if they were her own, greeted the operator and then pointed out the details of Su Nian's design: "Leave an extra half inch at the waist for easy adjustment; and set the machine parameters for the cuff curvature two gears slower to prevent distortion."
Su Nian listened attentively, as these practical details were exactly what she lacked. While the operator was adjusting the machine, Fang Xia pulled her aside to check the pattern: "This is the net size. You need to add a one-centimeter seam allowance when cutting. Make sure you emphasize this clearly to the master."
After the first sample was cut out, Fang Xia carefully measured the key parts and confirmed that they were correct before handing it to Su Nian: "The feel and shape are right. Ask the master to make two more as backup."
Su Nian took the sample and brushed her fingertips over the fabric. It was exactly as she had expected. She said to Fang Xia with gratitude, "Sister Fang Xia, today is really thanks to you."
Fang Xia smiled brightly: "We are all colleagues, why be polite." Then he turned around and asked the master to make two more samples.
Sunlight streamed through the high windows of the workshop onto the workbench. Su Nian watched Fang Xia communicate skillfully, and the resentment she felt towards Si Yan subtly faded. Sure enough, work and reliable colleagues were the best remedies for a good mood, and of course, the care of her stepfather was indispensable!
