Chapter 135: Can you and my mom try to have a second child?
Su Nian walked towards the conference table with a notebook in hand and walked steadily, finally sitting down in the empty seat at the end - that seat was specially reserved by Chen Ran.
Before this, Su Nian had some experience in attending conferences.
The last time she attended a meeting, she was still the "meeting record-keeping tool" who followed Lan Ting and took notes silently.
But today, it is obviously different.
She's upgraded—becoming "the one who brings her brain to the meeting."
The meeting officially began. Chen Ran sat in the main seat and slowly swept his eyes over the department heads present. Finally, he paused for a moment on Su Nian and then retracted his gaze.
When he spoke, his tone was calm, yet filled with unquestionable determination: "Because I was away from the company some time ago, the regular meeting was temporarily moved to the morning. Don't worry, everyone, just report as usual."
As soon as Chen Ran said this, the originally delicate atmosphere in the conference room instantly eased.
The heads of various departments nodded and entered the reporting mode.
Su Nian was taking notes quickly while thinking frantically:
“Is this data made up?”
“Do they really believe what they’re saying?”
"Should I get a pair of simultaneous interpretation headphones? I understand every word they say, but when they're all connected it's like listening to a foreign language..."
......
Su Nian quickly wrote down the key points in her notebook, and quietly marked the parts she didn't understand, waiting for the meeting to end before asking Chen Ran for advice.
She knew that her father asked her to attend the meeting not only to let her "understand", but also to pave the way for her to take over the company in the future. She could not let down this trust and expectation.
Halfway through the meeting, Lan Ting from the design department suddenly "flash zoomed in" and gave the right to speak to Su Nian.
Su Nian's brain went blue: "Director Lan, was this a spur-of-the-moment idea, or did my dad instruct you? Even the script didn't play out like this!"
She couldn't push it away, so she could only stand up. She took a deep breath and sorted out her thoughts.
As a result, when she spoke, her speech was clear and to the point: she combined her "brick-moving experience" in the design department, accurately complained about the current design problems, and also put forward several suggestions for improvement.
Though a bit naive, her speech hit the nail on the head, prompting several department heads present to nod quietly. Huh? So this "airborne" attendee wasn't just there to use the Wi-Fi? She actually had deep insights into the company's business.
After the meeting, Chen Ran summoned Su Nian directly to the chairman's office with a single sentence, "Go to the top floor."
As the door to the chairman's office closed, Chen Ran stood up from behind his large mahogany desk and handed a surprisingly thick document to the person across from him. "This is the company's draft strategic plan for next year. Take it home and study it carefully. I want to see your independent analysis report by next Wednesday."
Su Nian took the document with both hands. Her fingertips felt the cool temperature of the matte coated paper, and the thick texture of the edge of the paper pressed against her palm, which made her sober up instantly - this test about the "Chen family heir" had never been just talk, but was now truly realized.
She pinched the document cover, her fingertips unconsciously stroking the gold-plated company logo, and asked softly, "Dad, do you really think I can handle this?"
"Hmm?" Chen Ran raised an eyebrow, clearly aware of his daughter's inner uneasiness. He walked over to the sofa and sat down, his tone full of unquestionable certainty, "Didn't I tell you before? Even if the sky falls, Dad will hold it up. Just go for it."
"But you asked me to speak at the meeting today, and you didn't even tell me in advance!" Su Nian said with a hint of grievance, "I think you did it on purpose, just waiting to see me make a fool of myself!"
"That's really unfair to me." Chen Ran smiled and waved his hand, gently kicking the "ball" away. "Director Lan suddenly came up with the idea and said he wanted to hear the young people's ideas. Besides, the points you just made were logically clear and practical. Where did you make a fool of yourself? You're simply born to do this job—"
He paused, then added, "Of course, it's mainly inherited from me."
Su Nian's ears warmed up from the praise, and he laughed out loud when he heard the last sentence. He thought, isn't this self-praise from his father too obvious?
She suddenly changed the subject and asked softly with a sly smile, "Dad, how about... you and Mom try harder and have a second child to share the workload?"
Chen Ran chuckled: "How can you, kid, still be so blaming others?"
"I'm serious!" Su Nian said seriously, "If you had found us a few years earlier, you might have two children by now!"
Chen Ran’s inner thoughts: Do you think your parents can’t spell it out now?
The smile on his face faded a little, and his tone was gentle: "Now... it's not impossible, but I can't bear to let your mother suffer. Having you is enough. In this life, I can watch you grow up safely and become more and more outstanding. Your mother and I will be complete."
After saying that, he pretended to be serious again: "Why am I telling this to a little girl like you? What do you know?"
Seeing that the situation was not good, Su Nian was about to slip away, but Chen Ran stopped her with a sentence "Eat first before leaving".
He paused, then softened his tone and asked with concern, "By the way, how's the baby doing lately? I heard from your mom yesterday that the baby's already moving."
When Su Nian mentioned the baby in her belly, her expression softened instantly, and she complained with a hint of helplessness: "It's fine. It has more energy than me. It clocks in for morning exercises every morning, which makes it impossible for me to sleep in."
"That's great." Chen Ran laughed, his tone full of doting comfort. "Just think of it as your baby setting a warm little alarm clock for you. When you think about it this way, don't you think it's quite thoughtful?"
Su Nian touched her belly, feeling helpless yet sweet: "This is the only way to comfort myself - after all, I can't return it."
Looking at his daughter, the smile on Chen Ran's face gradually faded.
He couldn't help but feel pain in his heart when he thought of the hard days when Su Hong was pregnant, gave birth, and raised her daughter alone.
Although his daughter's mention of a second child was just a joke, rather than having another child, he wanted to stay with Su Hong and make up for the time he had missed over the years.
With Su Hong by his side, such an outstanding daughter, and a grandson who is about to be born, for him, life is already complete at this point.
For the rest of his life, he just wanted to be with Su Hong and enjoy this simple and solid happiness.
