Chapter 178 Reunion Rehearsal
There are only twelve days left until the Lunar New Year. Si Yan crosses out his calendar every day, his inner drama already playing out the famous scene of "Su Nian opens the door - hugs - hands over the baby":
The sensor light in the entrance hall would light up first, enveloping her figure in a warm yellow glow. She would put down her suitcase, her hair falling as she bent to change her shoes. Then she would look up and smile, her eyes curved into the familiar crescent shape he knew so well. Then Baoer would stumble over, hug her legs, and call out, "Mom." He would then walk over, encircling them from behind, resting his chin on the top of her head, inhaling her fragrance...
He has already performed this "reunion rehearsal" in his mind eight times, and the details are upgraded every time.
Late at night, Si Yan turned off his computer and thought to himself: Bao Er hasn't lost weight, so I... shouldn't have lost weight either, right? Comrade Su Nian said I can't lose weight, I need to check the feel!
Last week, I played with Baoer and my back was sore for half the night. Taking care of children is really a "physical job" and it takes a lot of effort!
He pinched his waist unconsciously with his fingertips in front of the mirror: the muscle lines are still there, and the feel should be... okay!
Under the moonlight, Bao'er slept like a steamed bun. Si Yan couldn't help but poke his face: "Your mom is coming back soon! Did you know? Our 'wild free-range' life will finally have an 'official behind-the-scenes' episode. After all, your mom is only coming back temporarily for spring break!"
Baoer seemed to understand, rubbed his little head against his hand, and muttered "Mom".
Si Yan's heart softened all of a sudden, thinking of the daily video calls with Su Nian where Bao'er would always hold up her toys and shout "Mommy, play" at the screen, her eyes turning red as she shouted.
He took out his phone and sent Su Nian a photo of Baoer sleeping, with the caption: "The little steamed buns are waiting for your inspection, and I am waiting too. Warm reminder: the texture is still chewy, welcome to go home and try it."
Less than half a minute after the message was sent, Su Nian's reply popped up, with her usual playful attitude: "Okay, take a shower and smell good, waiting for me to come back and pamper you!"
The tips of Si Yan's ears turned red. He subconsciously curled up his fingers, and his Adam's apple rolled unconsciously. In his mind, a barrage of comments was flying: This girl can "remotely poison" across the time difference, and just one sentence can make his heart beat out of balance!
He curled his fingers together and silently wrote down the account of "flirting and running away" in his small notebook - waiting, when the person comes back, he will see how he will "get it back" with interest!
The next morning, Si Yan woke up at five o'clock. He picked up Baoer from the bed and said, "Let's go pick up mom!"
Si Yan smiled and helped him put on his clothes - a newly bought red cotton-padded jacket.
"We should all dress smartly and show your mother that even without her, we two are still the most handsome guys on the street!"
Before leaving for the airport, Si Yan asked Bao'er to hold a piece of paper with "Welcome home, Mom" written on it by him last night, and he even drew lace with colored pens.
Baoer's little hands were clenched tightly, and the edges of the cards were wrinkled.
"Lift it high so that mom can see it." Si Yan squatted down and helped him adjust his posture.
The airport was crowded with people returning home carrying suitcases.
Si Yan stood at the exit holding Baoer, his eyes fixed on the gate.
Baoer lay on his shoulder, his little head constantly looking left and right in the crowd, his eyes sparkling, and he shouted, "Mom!" from time to time.
"It's almost there, just wait a little longer." Si Yan touched his head.
Finally, the familiar figure in the crowd was walking towards them.
Su Nian was dragging a suitcase. Her hair was a little longer than in the video and was casually tied behind her head, revealing her smooth forehead.
Her face showed fatigue from the journey, and there were faint shadows under her eyes, but when her eyes fell on the father and son, they lit up instantly, as if stars fell into her eyes, bright enough to illuminate the entire winter.
Su Nian immediately put down the suitcase and ran towards them quickly.
The wheels of the suitcase hit the ground, but she didn't pay any attention to it.
Su Nian hugged Bao'er in her arms, hugged her tightly, and said in a choked voice: "My Bao'er, mommy is back."
She buried her head in Baoer's neck and took a deep breath, smelling the familiar milky scent on him.
Su Nian smiled, lifted him up and spun him around. The sunlight fell on them, and it was warm like spring.
"You haven't lost weight, you've gained a lot." She weighed Bao'er and looked at Si Yan with a smile, "It seems that Daddy takes good care of you."
Si Yan walked over and gently embraced the mother and son from behind.
His chin rested on the top of Su Nian's head, and the familiar fragrance of her hair lingered at the tip of her nose. This smell was more real than in the video or on the phone.
"Welcome home," he said softly, his fingers gently squeezing her shoulders, "I'm not thin either, wait for you to check the feel."
Su Nian turned around, her eyes still red, but she couldn't help but smile.
She put one hand around Si Yan's waist and gently pinched his waist and abdomen with her fingertips. The familiar touch warmed her heart: "Well, it feels pretty good. It seems that the quality of Dad's laces is guaranteed!"
On the way home, Baoer was so excited sitting in the safety seat that he babbled and started his "personal concert".
He was singing the nursery rhyme that Su Nian taught him in the video. The tune was off-key, but it sounded particularly nice.
Su Nian sat beside him, leaning over to chat with him, and from time to time helped him straighten his crooked collar, her eyes so gentle that tears could drip from them.
Si Yan looked at the mother and son in the rearview mirror, unable to hide the smile on his face. "This is probably the most noisy form of happiness."
The moment I opened the door, the aroma of food hit me in the face.
Su Hong was just coming out of the kitchen, her apron still stained with flour, a spatula in her hand. "Niannian is back!" She walked over quickly, grabbed Su Nian's hand, her eyes instantly red, "You've lost weight, quite a bit."
Chen Ran sat on the sofa, holding a newspaper in his hand, but he was holding it upside down. He coughed calmly, put down the newspaper, walked over, and took Su Nian's suitcase.
Su Nian looked at her parents in front of her and her eyes suddenly became red.
She threw herself into Su Hong's arms like a child. Besides Si Yan and Bao'er, her parents were also the ones she thought about day and night.
"Hurry up and sit down to eat, the food is getting cold." Su Hong patted her back.
The dining table was filled with steaming dishes, warming everyone's face.
Baoer sat in the children's chair, holding a small spoon, eating the food in the bowl bite by bite, looking up at Su Nian from time to time, smiling happily.
After dinner, Chen Ran and Su Hong wanted to take Baoer away so that Si Yan and Su Nian could enjoy some time alone.
Ke Bao'er grabbed the corner of Su Nian's clothes tightly like a monkey, and shook his little head like a rattle.
Su Nian smiled and said, "Mom, it's okay, just let him stay with us."
Si Yan also shook his head and smiled, well, the plan of a world for two is over!
In the living room, Si Yan sat on the sofa, Su Nian leaned in his arms, and Baoer sat between them, holding his father in one hand and his mother in the other, like a winner in life.
Su Nian picked up the orange on the table, peeled a slice and fed it to Baoer, peeled another slice and fed it to Si Yan, then ate one herself, and the sweet taste spread in her mouth.
Su Nian turned around, kissed Baoer's forehead first, and then gently kissed the corner of Si Yan's mouth.
"Where you are, the air is sweet."
