Chapter 25: Getting too much is also cute
Su Nian and Lin Feier chose a comedy film that was full of jokes. The hilarious scenes on the screen were like warm tea, slowly soothing their previous panic.
Now that Su Nian was pregnant, she didn't dare eat at street stalls anymore. After watching the movie, the two of them went into a Western restaurant.
The warm light of the Western restaurant bathed the white tablecloth. Amidst the clink of knives and forks, Su Nian's phone suddenly vibrated. The words "Si Yan" flashed across the screen, causing her fingertips to pause.
"Where are you?" The man's voice came through the receiver with his usual calmness.
"I went shopping with Fei'er this afternoon and we're having dinner now."
"Send me the address and I'll pick you up."
"Ah? No need to bother..."
"Be obedient." These three words were not heavy, but like an invisible gravity that made it impossible to refuse.
Su Nian raised his eyes to look at Lin Feier, who immediately nodded in understanding.
After hanging up the phone, Lin Feier covered her mouth exaggeratedly: "Oh my God, Professor Si is so considerate! This is what we call a boyfriend!"
"He probably... did it for the child." Su Nian fiddled with his fork, speaking lightly, as if he was talking about someone else's business.
Not long after, Si Yan appeared at the restaurant entrance. His dark shirt was immaculately ironed. His eyes swept across the dining table, landing precisely on Su Nian.
"Hello, Professor Si." Lin Feier quickly stood up and greeted him, her tone a little reserved like a little fan meeting her idol.
Si Yan nodded, his eyes sweeping across the empty plate: "Anything else you need?"
"No, no, we're almost done eating." Lin Feier waved her hands quickly, and even sat up straighter unconsciously, as if she had suddenly returned to a university classroom.
He looked at Su Nian again. She shook her head and was about to ask for the bill when Si Yan raised his hand to call the waiter.
Su Nian and Lin Fei'er reached out for their phones at the same time, but were stopped by his gaze.
"I'll do it." There was an unwavering insistence in his eyes, so the two of them had to withdraw their hands in disappointment.
After leaving the restaurant, the evening breeze blew Su Nian's hair.
Lin Feier took a half step back tactfully: "Professor Si, I suddenly remembered that I have something else to do. I'll leave Nian Nian to you now."
She winked at Su Nian and said in a cheerful voice, "Niannian, let's make an appointment next time!"
"Let's go together!" Su Nian still wanted to keep him.
"It's not on the way—" Lin Feier's voice had already blended into the flow of people at the corner of the street, leaving only a cunning back.
Su Nian was a little helpless. Was it necessary to dodge so quickly?
——Of course not! Nian Nian, you are with my university professor, I don’t want to be a bright light bulb!
"Are you tired?" Si Yan's voice sounded in her ears, bringing her back to her senses.
"It's okay. We had coffee and watched a movie first, so we didn't walk much." Su Nian looked up at him, and her tone became unconsciously obedient.
"By the way, we saw Professor Zhang in the coffee shop... She's your mother, right?" she asked in a low voice, her fingertips slightly curled up, like an uneasy little animal.
Si Yan understood clearly.
He was attending an academic seminar in the suburbs today. His mother Zhang Minghua called him specifically to say that her two daughters were shopping and asked him to come over and look after them.
He rushed over as soon as the meeting ended, but unfortunately there was a traffic jam on the road and he arrived a little late.
"Nervous?" he asked, his tone slightly softer.
"Yeah, a little bit." Su Nian nodded honestly, like a child who had done something wrong.
"Don't be afraid, she's just a mother and she means no harm." His voice was steady, with a reassuring power.
This child is timid and I'm afraid he was scared today.
"By the way, have you eaten?" Su Nian suddenly remembered.
"I haven't eaten yet. I came from the suburbs and was stuck in traffic for a while." Si Yan replied.
"Then go eat something."
"Will you accompany me?" He turned his head to look at her, the halo of the street lamp fell into his eyes, reflecting a little expectation.
"Okay." Su Nian agreed without hesitation. In the evening breeze, her voice was as light as a jumping note.
The two walked a short distance and entered a private noodle restaurant. Si Yan ordered a bowl of secret beef noodles.
The fragrant beef noodles were served on the table. Si Yan asked the owner for a set of bowls and chopsticks and shared a small amount of food. "Come eat some more with me!"
Su Nian looked at the small bowl of noodles in front of her, her heart warmed. She stirred the noodles gently, and the rising steam blurred her vision.
After taking a few bites of noodles, Su Nian looked up and saw Si Yan looking at her intently with gentle eyes.
"Why are you looking at me?" she asked softly, her cheeks slightly red.
"It's wonderful to watch you eat." Si Yan raised the corners of his mouth, his voice low and pleasant.
Su Nian's heart was pounding. She lowered her head and continued to eat noodles, but she ate very carefully, fearing that her eating manners would not look good.
Su Hong opened the door and found that it was Si Yan who sent it back. She was obviously stunned.
"Hello, Auntie. I'm free tonight and can take Nian Nian back home." Si Yan's tone was polite and natural.
"Well, you don't need to send breakfast tomorrow morning. I soaked some grains, and Nian Nian wants to eat rice porridge. You can sleep a little longer tomorrow morning!"
"I'm used to getting up early, Auntie. Can I come over to eat rice porridge tomorrow morning?" Si Yan's tone was just the right amount of earnestness, like a child who wanted to get some candy, but his eyes were filled with a gentle determination to get it.
"Okay, okay!" Su Hong was amused by him and quickly agreed.
Su Nian was shocked. This man was so shameless - but hidden within this shamelessness was a sincerity that was irresistible. Even his "pressing for an inch" became cute, like a vine in spring, quietly climbing up the wall of the heart, but making people reluctant to push it away.
The Si family’s old house on the weekend.
Sunlight streamed in through the carved window lattices, falling on the mahogany floor. Zhang Minghua was sitting on the sofa, peeling oranges for the old lady. "Mom, this time Ah Yan really seems to have a chance. He's finally finding his way, despite having trouble finding love," Zhang Minghua said happily.
"I've seen that girl before. She looks well-behaved and sensible. She's very good. Her clothes are well designed, and her features are well-proportioned. She's just a little young."
The old lady took the orange slices and said, "Tell him to bring the man home quickly so we can take a look."
"It's almost there," Zhang Minghua said happily. "Maybe I can even bring my grandson back with me."
"Then we must quickly prepare a gift for the meeting." The old lady stood up and walked towards her room. "My pair of jade bracelets have been put away for several years. They are perfect for my future granddaughter-in-law..."
"Mom, don't be anxious!"
Is there a need to be so anxious? Zhang Minghua wondered if he had expressed himself incorrectly. How could it be so fast?
