Chapter 31 Strange Phone Call
Li Jiawei posted a photo of Si Yan and Su Nian holding hands from behind to the family group. Before she could add any text, Zhang Minghua's voice message popped up: "Weiwei, are the three of you together?"
"Aunt! I did a big thing for my brother today!" Li Jiawei smiled slyly at the phone, "The assist was fantastic!"
"Good girl! Your aunt will give you a bonus!" The next second, a transfer reminder popped up on the phone with a "ding" sound.
Si Yuqing's message followed shortly after: "Weiwei, the mission was accomplished well. Let's leave now and leave them alone for a while. Mom will transfer the money to you, and you can find a good place to eat."
Another "ding" sound, and the balance was added.
Li Jiawei was beaming with joy as she looked at the screen - it seemed that her brother's lifelong event was her secret to wealth.
"Brother, please take me home first. My mother is urging me to go back for dinner." She put away her phone and spoke seriously.
Si Yan raised an eyebrow: "Are you sure you want to miss this opportunity to have a good meal?"
"Yeah!" Li Jiawei nodded her head like pounding garlic - who doesn't want to get a free ride, but her wallet doesn't allow her to continue.
After sending Li Jiawei off, Si Yan saw Su Nian leaning on the passenger seat with a hint of fatigue, and he had an idea in his mind.
When the car turned into a tree-lined high-end apartment building called "Jiachen Apartment", Su Nian opened his eyes, full of confusion.
"It's too sunny outside, let's go to my house and rest for a while." Si Yan parked the car and looked at her sideways, "Let's order takeout and eat it at home so we don't have to run around."
Su Nian pinched the hem of her skirt and hesitated: "Is this...convenient?"
"I live alone," Si Yan said naturally as he unbuckled his seatbelt. "Since you're exhausted, I'll just take a break. Don't do anything else—unless you want to do something else."
The last sentence made Su Nian's ears burn, but he finally nodded.
Si Yan opened the door and led the person in: "Please sit down, I'll get you a glass of water." After saying that, he quickly turned on the air conditioning system.
Su Nian sat on the soft sofa, her eyes unable to help but wander around the room.
The apartment is very large and decorated in a typical modern minimalist style, with gray and white as the main color scheme interspersed with dark wooden furniture. It is so tidy that it almost looks deserted.
The most eye-catching thing is the open study, where an entire wall of bookshelves is filled with medical books.
Si Yan came over with a glass of water and sat down next to her. "What do you want to eat? Sichuan cuisine, Cantonese cuisine, or something lighter?"
"Let's have something lighter. Just watch over it." Su Nian took the cup of water. His fingertips touched the coolness of the cup wall, and the restraint in his heart dissipated a little.
Si Yan clicked on the Cantonese restaurant he usually ordered from, and paused his fingertips on the screen. "Their bamboo fungus and lotus seed soup is good. It clears away heat and relieves summer heat. It's perfect for drinking now."
Su Nian followed his words and looked over. The soup in the menu picture was clear and translucent, with lotus seeds nestled in the bamboo fungus's net-like skirt. It looked refreshing. "Hmm, it's pretty good."
"Another serving of steamed sea bass?" Si Yan glanced at her. "It's fresh and has few bones." Seeing her nod, he added another serving of garlic-fried bok choy. "Is that enough?"
"That's enough. Too much will be a waste." Su Nian put the cup of water on the coffee table.
"It's too hot, do you want to take a shower?"
"Hmm?" I was sweating all over after looking at the lotus flowers for the whole morning and felt really uncomfortable.
"Take a bath and feel comfortable, then change into my clothes."
Su Nian just wanted to lie down and think about the baby in her belly. He couldn't do anything, "Okay."
There were clean towels in the bathroom, and a loose white shirt was draped on the shelf, with a faint scent of laundry detergent on the collar.
Su Nian washed off the stickiness on her body and changed into Si Yan's shirt. The shirt could be worn as a skirt, covering her thighs, and the sleeves had to be rolled up twice to reveal her wrists.
As soon as she opened the door, she could smell the delicious food. Si Yan was just placing the last plate of Shanghai greens on the table when he turned around and saw her. His gaze paused for two seconds, his Adam's apple rolling slightly. "Come and eat."
The sea bass was steamed to perfection, the fish meat was as tender as clouds, the bamboo fungus soup tasted sweet and refreshing, and even the vegetables were stir-fried to be crispy and tender.
The two of them didn't say much, but they enjoyed the meal very much.
After dinner, Si Yan cleaned up the dishes. Su Nian leaned back on the sofa and yawned, her eyelids growing heavier.
"Go to my room and take a nap. The sofa is not comfortable." Si Yan came out wiping his hands, his tone as natural as if he was saying "have a drink of water".
Su Nian followed him into the bedroom in a daze. The room was as simple as the living room, with gray sheets neatly spread.
She felt extremely sleepy as soon as she touched the bed. In a daze, she felt someone covering her with a thin quilt, and then she fell into a deep sleep.
When she opened her eyes again, the sun was already setting outside the window. Su Nian sat up, her shirt slightly wrinkled. She got up and went to the bathroom to get her skirt, but it was gone.
She tiptoed out of the bedroom again and saw her clothes hanging on the balcony, and her heart suddenly felt warm.
She turned around and saw Si Yan sitting at the desk in the open study, reading a medical book. His profile looked particularly gentle under the desk lamp.
A thick medical book was spread out on the desk, and next to it was a notebook filled with densely written annotations.
In the photo frame on the desk, there is a photo of the two of them: she is wearing a cape coat designed by herself and a haze blue skirt, and Si Yan stands close to her and tucks her wind-blown hair behind her ears - this is the most intimate photo among those photos.
It seems that Professor Si knows how to choose photos.
"Awake?" Si Yan turned around and closed the medical book. "Are you hungry? I'll go cut some fruit."
Su Nian walked to his side and gently touched the edge of the photo with her fingertips: "This photo..."
"Putting a photo of us here makes it feel like home." Si Yan reached out and pulled her into his arms, resting his chin on the top of her head. "I had it specially developed."
He paused, his voice lowered, "Su Nian, I'm not just saying this on a whim. I really want to live a good life with you and the child."
The wind from outside the window blew through the screen, bringing with it the coolness of the evening. Su Nian leaned against his chest, listening to his steady heartbeat, and suddenly felt that the future didn't seem so scary anymore.
"Next, I would like to arrange a meeting between our two families. Do you have any objection?" Si Yan asked in a gentle voice.
"Yeah, okay."
When Su Nian returned home in the evening, her cell phone rang and a string of unfamiliar numbers popped up on the screen.
"Excuse me, is this Ms. Su Nian?" A middle-aged man's voice came from the receiver, his tone was cautious and businesslike.
"It's me, may I ask who you are?" Su Nian walked to the sofa with the phone in his hand, feeling a strange premonition in his heart.
"We need to verify whether you are a designer from Yuanxin Studio?"
"Yuanxin Studio"—those four words dropped like a pebble into Su Nian's heart. It was Li Yuan's fashion design studio, and she had no connection to it any longer. "No, I don't work there. What can I do for you?" her voice tinged with confusion.
"That's right," the other party paused, as if looking through some information. "The materials provided by Yuanxin Studio show that you and Mr. Li Yuan co-founded the studio. Our company signed a contract with them, which explicitly requires that all designs must be completed by the two of you. Your last award-winning work has already been partnered with our brand and has gone into production."
