Chapter 36 Why is this person here again?
Early in the morning, the morning light just filtered through the glass windows of the tailor shop, spreading a light gold color on the floor.
Su Hong was bending over to arrange the cloth, her fingertips stroking the smooth satin, when the wind chimes at the door suddenly rang, and the sound like broken silver filled the room.
"morning."
She looked up and saw Chen Ran, dressed casually today: a haze-blue shirt with black, cropped straight-leg trousers, the hems slightly stacked to reveal his ankles, and white sneakers.
Su Hong couldn't help but be stunned - he was also in his forties, so how could this person not age at all? No, why was this person here again?
"Is there something that brings you to the store so early..." Su Hong asked doubtfully.
"I forgot to ask for your phone number last time." Chen Ran walked to the counter and tapped his fingertips lightly on the table. "I came here before work to try my luck. Look, that office building in front, Chen's Clothing Company, I work there."
Su Hong lowered her eyelashes, her gaze falling on the unassuming watch on his wrist: "There's no need to leave your number. We haven't been in touch for decades, and we each have our own lives to live."
She glanced at the handmade leather shoes on his feet, and remembered the luxury car he drove that day. She knew clearly in her heart that he was probably no longer an ordinary person now.
Su Hong didn't want to leave her number with him. She wasn't stupid. If she did, his family would come looking for her one day and their saliva would flood her shop.
Having raised her daughter alone for most of her life, the word "innocence" is what she values most.
"Leave one behind, in case something happens." Chen Ran took out his mobile phone and unlocked it. The screen lit up with the new page of the address book. It was clear that he would not leave unless he gave it to him.
Su Hong was wondering in her heart: How come he is in his forties and can’t understand what people say?
He didn't say anything harsh, and deliberately slowed down his speech when he gave the number. He added at the end, "Don't call me if there's nothing to do. I'm busy and don't have time to chat with you. Don't do anything that will cause your family to misunderstand. I don't want any waves in my peaceful life."
"Don't worry, I won't." He dialed the number immediately. When he heard the crisp ringtone coming from the counter, he smiled and saved it. "By the way, can you help me make a set of clothes?"
Su Hong looked up at him and raised her eyebrows: "You work in a clothing company, and you still think highly of the craftsmanship of my small tailor shop?" Could it be that this man came here to make fun of her?
"I'm familiar with your craftsmanship." Chen Ran said as he walked towards the fabric area, "Come and help me take a look."
It looked like she was really going to make clothes. Su Hong had no choice but to put down her work and slowly followed her: "You have high standards, how dare I give you any suggestions? Choose the material and I'll measure your measurements."
"This one is for the top, and that one is for the pants." Chen Ran pointed at the two pieces of cloth with a firm tone.
Su Hong's eyelids twitched - he had such a sharp eye, he picked out the most expensive Italian cashmere and silk blend in the store at first sight?
"The size...shouldn't have changed." Chen Ran added, with a subtle tentativeness in his tone, as if he was afraid of disturbing something.
Su Hong secretly complained, "Who can remember the size from decades ago? Did you overestimate me, or yourself?"
"Let's measure again." She picked up the tape measure and unfolded it. "I've completely forgotten what happened before."
Chen Ran heard this and slowly opened his arms. The morning light fell on the few silver strands on his temples, casting a soft glow.
Su Hong lowered her eyes. When the tape measure went around his shoulders, her fingertips accidentally brushed against the collar of his shirt. The warm body temperature under the fabric came through her fingertips. Su Hong paused, then quickly looked away as if she was burned.
Please don't let this horrible memory be awakened, okay?
Finally sending Chen Ran away, Su Hong leaned against the door frame and let out a breath. The morning light flooded over her relaxed shoulders, and she finally found a moment of peace and quiet.
The first meeting between Si Yan and Su Nian's families can be described as a complete success. Everyone felt as if a heavy rain had fallen in their hearts, and the stones that were pressing on them gently floated up.
The old man and old lady of the Si family called Si Yan almost every other day. The voice in the receiver was filled with laughter, urging him to bring Su Nian back to the old house for dinner.
When Su Nian knew she was going to Si Yan's house, she became nervous again. She turned around in front of the mirror, thinking about what gift to give to the two old people.
A few days ago, she sewed a forest-style cotton and linen dress with tiny white daisies embroidered on the indigo base, preparing to give it to Li Jiawei.
Si Yan's opinion was, "No need to prepare any gifts. Your presence is the best gift for the two elders."
Su Nian shook her head at him, thinking it would be better not to say that.
Su Hong was ironing a freshly made shirt when she heard this. She looked up and said, "Niannian, I have an idea. You can design a piece of clothing suitable for the old man and the old lady. If you don't have the size and can't sew it, just bring your design manuscript and Mom will make it for you later."
Su Nian's eyes lit up. This was a good idea and something she was good at.
Elsewhere, Chen Ran emerged from the elevator, his leather shoes making a crisp sound on the marble floor. His fingertips rubbed the screen of his phone, thinking of Su Hong's number he had just saved. The corners of his mouth lifted unconsciously, and even the wrinkles around his eyes softened a bit.
Assistant Fang Shuo followed behind with a few documents in his arms, and couldn't help but wonder: Director Chen seems to be in a good mood early in the morning. Could it be that this old iron tree is really going to bloom?
Fang Shuo followed him into the office, where a pile of documents lay neatly stacked on the desk. Chen Ran was in a good mood, his pen nibbling with energy as he signed the documents.
He paused when he came across a joint lawsuit—his company and Yuanxin Studio were being sued by a man named "Su Nian." The reason was that several designs developed in collaboration with Yuanxin Studio had already been put into production without the copyright holder's consent.
"Su Nian?" Chen Ran frowned, pressing his fingertips on the two words, "Is it that child?"
"What's going on?" He looked up at Fang Shuo and asked in a deeper tone, "Check Su Nian's situation. I want all the information."
Fang Shuo had recently been following up on this matter and quickly replied, "The company's legal department has intervened. We were also deceived by Yuanxin Studio. The winning design was signed by two people, and they said that it was the studio jointly established by the two winners." He handed over a document, "This is the introduction of Yuanxin Studio."
"You believe it based on this piece of information?" Chen Ran slammed the document on the table, the edge of the paper trembling slightly. "We are a large company. Is contract audit just a formality?"
"Vice President Huang is in charge of this matter."
"Nonsense, call him to a meeting!" Chen Ran's voice suddenly rose, and the warmth that had just spread across his brows disappeared in an instant, and the air in the office froze.
For several days, Li Yuan's phone calls haunted Su Nian like an inescapable nightmare.
After the studio received the lawyer's letter, he called her frantically, his hoarse voice revealing his desperate panic.
Su Nian slammed her phone on the table, and blocked the number with trembling fingertips. Unexpectedly, another strange caller lit up the screen the next moment - he was like a lingering ghost, changing different numbers to continue to tear at her nerves.
Once, Su Hong saw Li Yuan wandering downstairs of her house. She scolded him harshly and then left in shame.
