Chapter 44 Nothing Can Be Done Tonight

Chapter 44 Nothing Can Be Done Tonight

In Su Nian's opinion, gift-giving is all about the thought. For such valuable jewelry, giving them as pieces or sets is already a big deal, so there is no reason to give them as boxes!

"Silly child, I've never had a daughter in my life, so these things are just for the sake of being treasured. Sooner or later, they'll all be yours!" Zhang Minghua said, carefully buckling the lacquer jewelry box and pressing it into her hand without further ado. The warmth of his palm radiated through the wooden box. "Be good, and take it."

She leaned closer and lowered her voice, "Also, now that you and Ayan are married, you have to take control of the family finances. Have you given Ayan's salary card? Men, you can't give them too much money. Too much money can easily make them confused."

"Mom, I... I haven't thought about this at all." Su Nian's cheeks were as red as ripe cherries, and she twisted the corners of her clothes helplessly. "Besides, I don't know how to manage money."

"If you don't know how, just learn. Mom will teach you!" Zhang Minghua patted her chest and promised, her eyes gleaming with the shrewdness of an experienced person. "If you like any jewelry or clothes, just buy them. Don't treat yourself badly. We women bear children and manage the household for our men. It's not easy. You can't treat yourself badly."

In the living room, Si Guoqing and Si Yan, a father and son, were chatting with everyone. Somehow, their ears turned red at the same time, and they were wondering in their hearts: Who arranged this?

The minimalist shantung silk dress that Su Hong had sewn fit Zhang Minghua perfectly. She happily walked into the living room, and Si Yuqing immediately took a liking to it, her face full of envy: "This pattern and pattern are beautiful!"

Su Nian said at the right moment: "If you like it, Auntie, I can make it for you. When you are free, go to my mother's tailor shop to choose the material."

Si Yuqing glanced at his daughter Li Jiawei and agreed with a smile: "My niece-in-law is so considerate!"

Li Jiawei made a face at her mother. "What's the point of looking at me? I can't do it either!" Besides, I have to coax my sister-in-law well so that I can wear beautiful clothes in the future.

The old man and his wife sat on the sofa, watching their grandchildren chatting and laughing, their eyes filled with joy. At this age, what more could one ask for? Just a harmonious family and healthy children and grandchildren. At this moment, the lively and warm atmosphere in the house was their greatest happiness.

After dinner, Si Yuqing and his family went home. Si Guoqing and his wife and the newlyweds stayed in the old house today.

Si Yan took Su Nian upstairs and opened his room. They were both stunned: the room had been redecorated. Wedding characters were pasted on the cabinets and windows. The bright red blankets were full of festive atmosphere. Red silk pajamas were placed on the quilt. In the closet, there were several sets of red clothes for Su Nian. Bath towels, slippers and other daily necessities were all available. Everywhere red was used.

Not to mention Su Nian was at a loss, even Si Yan was a little confused. They decided to get the marriage certificate suddenly, and they acted really quickly in just one day.

Si Yan coughed calmly and said to Su Nian, "Go take a shower."

"Do you want to... wear this?" Su Nian pointed at the dazzling red silk pajamas, her voice as soft as a mosquito.

"It's all right. Wear whatever you want. It's up to you."

"Just wear it." Su Nian pursed her lips, not wanting to let her elders down.

She suddenly remembered something and took out a set of navy blue home clothes from her bag. "By the way, I made a set of clothes for you. Would you like to try it on?"

Si Yan took it, and the moment his fingertips touched the fabric, a gentle smile spread in his eyes: "Well, I like it, thank you, Mrs. Si."

The word "Mrs. Si" made Su Nian's heart beat faster, and she quickly grabbed her clothes and ran into the bathroom.

Si Yan looked at the small figure slipping into the bathroom and smiled. She still remembered what I said about making clothes last time.

When Su Nian came out of the shower, Si Yan took a look at the person wearing red silk pajamas. It turned out that this girl looked pretty good in it.

Si Yan went in to take a shower, and Su Nian lay on the bed, browsing her phone. She could clearly recognize the words on the screen, but she didn't read any of them.

My mind was a mess, like a ball of wool—was it finally time to sleep with him tonight? I felt nervous yet inexplicably excited, not knowing what to do.

After a while, Si Yan came out of the shower. He was wearing the navy blue home clothes that Su Nian had made for him, which made his broad shoulders and narrow waist look particularly handsome.

Su Nian looked down at her bright red pajamas and suddenly felt a little silly, her cheeks getting hot again.

Before the two of them could say a word, there was a knock on the door.

Si Yan opened the door. Zhang Minghua was standing at the door. He glanced at Su Nian lying on the bed and asked with a smile, "Does this dress fit you well?"

Su Nian's face suddenly turned red, as if it was burned by fire.

"Mom, is there something wrong?" Si Yan asked.

Zhang Minghua looked directly at her son, her tone somewhat serious: "Ayan, Mom knows that tonight is your wedding night, but Nian Nian is pregnant, and it's still in the early stages of pregnancy. You have to control yourself and don't be impulsive."

Si Yan was speechless after hearing this - he is a doctor himself, so he must be clear about these principles. Is it necessary for me to come up and remind him specifically?

"I know, Mom! Don't worry." He could only respond patiently.

Only then did Zhang Minghua turn around and go downstairs with satisfaction.

Su Nian, lying on the bed, heard everything that had just been said clearly. She wished she could find a crack in the ground to crawl into, and she huddled herself in the quilt, burying her head. Oh my god, this was a massive social suicidal scene!

Si Yan closed the door and looked at the person on the bed who was curled up like a frightened little rabbit, and couldn't help but chuckle.

"Come out, don't get bored." He reached out and gently pulled the quilt, a smile in his voice, "You heard it too, I can't do anything tonight, don't worry."

The person under the quilt moved, revealing half of his red face, his eyelashes trembling wetly, like butterfly wings covered with morning dew.

Su Nian bit her lower lip and glared at him, but there was no anger in her eyes. Instead, there was a hint of shyness at having her thoughts exposed: "Who, who is worried..."

Then Si Yan also got on the bed from the other side. He reached out to turn off the warm light, and the room fell into a gentle darkness.

Both of them were guarding their own part of the world, and there was enough space in the middle for another person to lie down.

The air in the quilt seemed to be frozen. Su Nian could clearly hear her own heartbeat like a drum and the steady breathing of the man beside her.

She secretly turned her head and looked at him in the dim light - he had his eyes closed, his nose was straight, his jawline was very clean, and he exuded a cool and elegant demeanor.

I don’t know how long it took, but just when Su Nian thought she would have to stay awake until dawn, the person next to her suddenly moved.

She was so frightened that she quickly closed her eyes and pretended to be asleep, even holding her breath, until a warm hand gently covered her lower abdomen, the movement was so gentle as if afraid of breaking some treasure.

"Are you good tonight, little one?" Si Yan's voice was very low and hoarse, as if he was talking to her, or whispering to the baby in her belly.

Su Nian's eyelashes trembled even more violently, and she couldn't help but let out a "hmm".

He chuckled, rubbing his fingertips gently over her belly, soothingly, "Can't sleep?"

She had no choice but to open her eyes and meet his smiling ones, which were filled with the light of a warm lamp, as bright as crushed stars. "Yes, a little."

"What are you thinking about?"

"I'm thinking..." Su Nian bit her lip and suddenly mustered up the courage to ask, "Do you think the baby will look like you or me?"

"Like you is best." Si Yan said without hesitation, gently scratching her cheek with his fingertips, "As soft-hearted as you, and as cheerful as you."

As soon as he finished speaking, he grabbed her wrist. His palm was warm and dry, but the force was neither too strong nor too weak, just enough to make her unable to move.

Su Nian's face flushed red again. She pulled her hand back and huddled under the quilt, only revealing a pair of eyes that glared at him: "You rascal."

Si Yan chuckled softly, the vibration of his chest transmitting through the mattress, carrying a strangely soothing power. He lay back down, this time not deliberately keeping his distance, his arm gently resting on her waist, like a silent hug. "Okay, I won't bother you anymore. Go to sleep."

Su Nian snuggled beside him, and her heart suddenly felt at ease.

In a daze, she felt him move closer, his arms tightening a little, gently holding her in his arms. His voice rang out above her head, as soft as a dream: "Niannian, thank you."

Thank you for coming to me and thank you for giving me a home.

Su Nian didn't have time to respond before she was completely drowned in sleep. She slept exceptionally soundly that night, even her dreams were warm. In her dreams, the room was filled with red, there was his gentle smile, and there was a tiny, soft baby, with eyes like his, stretching out its chubby little hands towards her.
