Chapter 97 I hope you will be more careful

Chapter 97 I hope you will be more careful

As the night deepened, Su Hong sat on the sofa for a long time, her fingertips hovering over the screen of her mobile phone, dropping it and lifting it up again, repeating this several times, before finally dialing her daughter's number.

"Niannian, has work been going well lately?" There was a subtle hint of temptation in her voice, like a stone thrown into a lake, gently creating ripples.

"I'm fine, Mom," Su Nian's cheerful voice came from the other end of the phone, with the vitality unique to young girls, "What can I do for you?"

Su Hong took a deep breath and tried to sound nonchalant. "I just suddenly remembered that Uncle Chen...what exactly does he do in your Chen Group?"

"Uncle Chen? He's the chairman of our Chen Corporation!" Su Nian's voice suddenly rose a little, with a hint of excitement in the ending tone. "Speaking of which, Mom, how do you know such an important person? Thanks to you, Uncle Chen takes good care of me in the company. Last time, he came to see me and told me to ask him if I encounter any problems at work!"

The receiver suddenly fell silent, and the air seemed to freeze for a few seconds. Su Nian was a little confused. "Mom? Why are you silent? Could it be that... Uncle Chen didn't tell you the truth and concealed his identity?"

"Nothing," Su Hong's voice lowered, as if suppressed by something, "I'm just asking casually. I won't tell you anything for now."

After hanging up the phone, the only sound in the living room was the monotonous hum of the air conditioner, making the surroundings even quieter. Su Hong leaned back on the sofa, her fingertips trembling uncontrollably - the suspicion that had been lingering in her mind for so long had finally come true.

Her daughter's words "I took good care of you" were like a fine needle, gently piercing the calmness she had pretended to maintain for half a day, and making the emotions hidden in her heart rush out.

She looked out the window at the dark night, the neon lights casting mottled shadows on the glass, and sighed softly in her heart: Silly child, that's not Uncle Chen, that's your real father.

Su Nian on the other side hung up the phone, but she still felt that the conversation just now was indescribably weird.

Did Uncle Chen not tell Mom the truth, which made Mom unhappy? Or did Mom feel that the gap between her family and the boss of the Chen family was too big, so she wanted to give up?

She frowned and pondered for a long time. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Si Yan writing a paper on the computer in the study. His brows were tightly furrowed, as if he had encountered a difficult problem. He swallowed back the words that were on the tip of his tongue.

Forget it, adults probably know their own limits. She thought, when she gets home on the weekend, she'll find a chance to have a good chat with Ms. Su Hong. By asking her indirectly, she'll probably be able to get something out of her.

Su Nian was also preparing to go to her own little space to find inspiration. Just as she sat down, her mobile phone rang with a video invitation. When she saw that it was her best friend Lin Feier, she pressed the answer button.

"Niannian, I want to tell you something about your Professor Si. Do you want to hear it?" Lin Feier's voice was low, a hint of mystery and worry. "Please take the phone where Professor Si can't hear you."

"I'm in my own area. He's not here, so feel free to tell me. Did he freeze a student to death with his jokes in class again?"

"Today at school, a girl unexpectedly came to see Professor Si." Lin Fei'er paused, her tone becoming extremely cautious. "She looked like a classmate or friend he knew. I happened to be going to the office to look for the counselor, and I saw them talking downstairs in the office building. Since it was Professor Si, I hid in the dark and secretly observed for a while.

They spoke for a few minutes before the girl started crying, and Professor Si handed her a tissue. Later, Professor Si drove the girl away.

Su Nian was stunned for a moment. She didn't expect Si Yan to have a female friend who would cry in front of him. She didn't know how to react for a moment and only replied vaguely, "Yeah, I understand."

"At our Chinese Medicine University, there are many girls who have confessed their love to Professor Si, but I think this one is a little different." Lin Feier quickly added, her tone full of genuine concern, "I'm telling you this not to stir up trouble, but to hope that you will be more careful."

After hanging up the video, Su Nian stared at the phone screen in a daze.

Professor Si is such a hot commodity at TCM University! That's right, if it weren't for that accident that night, how could I have gotten a job with this tall, handsome, steady, and talented man?

The moonlight from outside the window filled the small space and gently fell on the design draft she spread out, but it failed to illuminate any inspiration. Instead, it made the lines appear even more blurred.

Si Yan would talk to a crying girl under the office building? This scene, no matter how you think about it, looks like the set of an idol drama.

It’s not that she didn’t believe Si Yan, but she felt like something had pricked her heart. It didn’t hurt, but she felt uncomfortable.

Lin Fei'er's words, "Be careful," kept ringing in her ears, and she wasn't sure whether she should ask. But seeing how he'd been frowning over his academic paper during the day, if she asked now, wouldn't she seem suspicious and cause him trouble?

Just as I was struggling with this, the door of the studio opened with a click.

Si Yan came out, rubbing his brows. His hair was a little messy, and he looked a little tired. Seeing Su Nian sitting at the small desk in a daze, he walked over and gently tapped the table: "Why aren't you sleeping yet? What are you thinking about?"

Su Nian looked up and met his tired yet gentle eyes. The words on the tip of her tongue suddenly changed direction: "Nothing, just thinking about the design draft. Are you done?"

"Okay, take a break." Si Yan sat down on the small sofa next to her, his eyes fixed on her design draft. "Where are you stuck? Let me help you take a look."

His fingertips tapped a line on the manuscript paper, his tone natural and focused. Su Nian looked at his serious profile, the light casting a faint shadow on his well-defined face, and suddenly felt that perhaps she was overthinking it.

"Maybe I'm a little tired," she closed the sketchbook, "I'll go wash up first, you should go to bed early too."

Si Yan nodded and looked at her back as she stood up. A barely perceptible complexity flashed across his eyes, as fast as a meteor across the night sky, and then was covered by deep fatigue.

Su Nian walked into the bathroom and sighed softly at herself in the mirror.

The cool feeling of the water splashing on her face sobered her up a bit—perhaps she should really be more cautious, as Lin Fei'er had said. But her mind was still hazy, like a thin mist, about what to do.

When Su Nian finished her shower and went to bed, Si Yan was still busy in the study downstairs. She told herself not to worry about it. It was normal to have female friends. After all, their relationship started because of that ridiculous night three months ago.

This relationship started out in hell mode, and it's a miracle that they can still get along like this.

Thinking of this, she felt a little relieved. She slowly closed her eyes and fell asleep.

When Si Yan finished his work and came to the bedroom, it was already very late at night.

Looking at the little girl curled up in a ball on the bed, sleeping soundly, his heart suddenly felt soft and at ease. This sleeping posture, like a kitten, makes people want to pet it.

Because Lu Jing came to the school to see him during the day, he wasted a lot of time, which is why he was busy with so much work until late at night...

After taking a shower, he gently got into bed and carefully gathered the sleeping person into his arms. Feeling the warm breath in his arms, he fell into a deep sleep.
