Chapter 13 Each Holds Their Own Account

"How could that be! The security footage just happened to break when we wanted to see it, and all we have is the front desk's video from yesterday. What a coincidence!"

Lin Ran refused to believe that this was just a coincidence.

The security guard was also completely baffled.

"It's a bit strange. The previous surveillance videos are all there, and the ones from this morning were normal. So why is there a problem with yesterday's videos?"

Zheng Yao lowered her eyes, her gaze shifting slightly.

She originally intended to delete all the videos so that no one would suspect anything.

But with limited time for handover, she rushed to delete yesterday's video.

It was too late to delete anything else, and to avoid being discovered, she had to leave quickly.

However, the fact that yesterday's video is no longer there is enough. Even if others have doubts, there is no evidence to prove that she deleted the video, nor can it prove that there is anything wrong with what she said.

Zheng Yao immediately pretended to look completely bewildered.

"How could this happen? How can I prove my innocence without the surveillance footage?"

Lin Ran was disgusted by her appearance.

"Stop pretending, okay? Don't you know why the video is gone, even if others don't?"

"What do you mean by that? Do you think I deleted the video?"

"Who else could it be but you?"

Zheng Yao shook her head frantically and looked at Fang Yu: "Manager, I really didn't. There are always people on duty in the monitoring room. How could I delete the video?"

Fang Yu already had a bad impression of Song Mai. Although he had doubts, his heart softened as soon as he saw Zheng Yao's pitiful appearance.

"It's strange that the video suddenly disappeared, but since we suspect Zheng Yao deleted it, isn't it also possible that Song Mai deleted it?"

As he spoke, he looked at Song Mai, his words sharp:

“I don’t care what personal grudges you have with Zheng Yao, but this is a company. Don’t bring your personal emotions into the company. The company is not a place for you to handle your personal matters. In any case, it was wrong of you to push Zheng Yao today, and you should apologize to her.”

"Furthermore, since you can't even handle your own personal matters, I have reason to believe that you will bring negative emotions to the new project as well. This project is very important to the company, and I will talk to the general manager to find someone else to work on it."

Upon hearing this, Song Mai, who had been silent until now, suddenly spoke up:

“I didn’t push her, and things aren’t as she says. Now that the surveillance video is gone, I can’t produce any evidence, and neither can she. We each have our own version of events, which doesn’t prove that my husband was unfaithful to her, nor does it prove that she didn’t have any other intentions towards my husband.”

Although what happened before was ultimately my private matter, I didn't intend to pursue it further or make a scene at the company. But since things have blown up today, and Zheng Yao insists on bringing this up in the open, then she absolutely has to explain what really happened.

At this point, she turned to look at Zheng Yao, her eyes clear and sharp, as if she had already seen through everything.

"I will try to prove myself as soon as possible, and you'd better be able to provide evidence to prove that what you said is true."

"As for pushing you, I didn't, and I won't apologize."

"If I produce evidence, then I ask Manager Fang to be fair and impartial and allow me to continue working on the project. After all, I was handpicked by the General Manager, not someone you decided on arbitrarily."

After saying that, Song Mai turned and left.

Lin Ran quickly followed and secretly gave Song Mai a thumbs up.

"6. I've never seen you talk so much before. I only realized how eloquent you are today when you opened your mouth."

Song Mai frowned deeply:

"It's not that I'm good, it's just that I'm unwilling to let others falsely accuse me without any evidence."

"Have you come up with a solution yet?"

Song Mai shook her head.

Who could have predicted that she would encounter such a dramatic thing while just going to work?

She could overlook anything else, but Zheng Yao was affecting her ability to make money, so she couldn't stand it.

No one can stop her from making money.

Song Mai's work on the project was suspended, and she only did some odd jobs all afternoon.

When it was time to leave work, another translator in the Spanish department who had been temporarily assigned to take over the project was still working overtime.

Seeing that she had packed her things early and was ready to leave, he said in a sarcastic tone:

"It's good to leave work early. Unlike us working people, we are not only abandoned by projects at the last minute, but we also don't know how late we will have to work overtime. It's really tough."

Another French-language department member chimed in:

"Then you're probably destined to work overtime. Who told you not to have a gigolo husband who's always looking for fun outside, and not to be so fickle yourself? If you were like that, you wouldn't need to work overtime."

Laughter immediately filled the office.

Song Mai stopped what she was doing.

"You believe Zheng Yao without any evidence, and I think I'm wrong without any evidence. Who's really unable to distinguish right from wrong?"

She has always been gentle and quiet at work, rarely interacting with anyone except a few close friends.

So she usually has a very low profile. Except when she has work to do, people never think of her. No one expected her to suddenly say something so sharp.

The two immediately shut their mouths.

When Song Mai arrived home, Chu Xing had not yet returned. As usual, she prepared a meal for the two of them, took a shower early, and went to bed to rest.

She kept thinking about what happened yesterday, wondering if anyone else at the front desk, besides her, Chu Xing, and Zheng Yao, had witnessed the incident.

Thinking this, she unknowingly fell asleep.

When Chu Xing arrived home, he found that Song Mai's bedroom door was open, and the woman was lying on the bed breathing steadily, as if she had already fallen asleep.

He tiptoed to the bedside and pulled up the blanket to cover her.

The woman's thick, black hair was spread out on the pillow. Her eyes were closed, and it was unclear whether she was dreaming about something. Her brows were slightly furrowed, and her small hands were clenched into fists.

They've become so much cuter.

Chu Xing stared at her blankly for a while, until the woman suddenly opened her eyes.

The moment their eyes met, his breath hitched, and his heart inexplicably trembled.

Song Mai sat up in bed and scratched her head awkwardly.

What are you doing here?

The man coughed lightly: "Your door wasn't closed, so I covered you with a blanket in case you caught a cold."

"Thanks."

The atmosphere became somewhat awkward for a moment.

Song Mai tucked a stray hair behind her ear and asked awkwardly, "Did you just get back?"

"Um."

"The rice is in the pot, let me heat it up for you."

"No need, I've already eaten."

The man turned and went back to the living room.

Song Mai got out of bed, still sleepy.

The man sat on the sofa watching the woman clear the dishes in the living room.

You went to bed early today.

Song Mai hummed in response, looking somewhat listless.

"fine."

"What happened?"

Chu Xing could tell at a glance that Song Mai was unusual.
